  1. No luck. Uninstalling and re-installing gives the same result.
  2. Ok, I'll give that a try! (and report back )
  3. Sorry, not visible on the screenshot, but yes. It doesn't change anything though.
  4. I've added a screenshot. Sorry about the poor quality: had to take it with my mobile phone because in a normal screenshot the mouse error didn't show.
  5. That's good info, thanks! I really don't need two networks, so I can disable the 1 Gigabit NIC. (which I did, but it doesn't make any difference - the lights on the 10 gbit card don't blink, so it just sits there and does nothing) Thanks also for the info on WOL. I don't really need WOL, but it's good to know. I'll keep searching, but I'm starting to fear the motherboard I'm trying this on is simply too old. I've just checked and the BIOS is from 2009. 🙈
  6. Could it be so simple as to disable my gigabit ethernet NIC in the BIOS? So there's only the 10Gbit card left? Edit : it doesn't. As said the lights on the 10gbe card don't even blink, so in essence it just sits there and does not grab an IP address. I'll also add Diagnostics to this post. tower-diagnostics-20210508-1344.zip
  7. Hi, I'm currently having a problem with unBalance. Don't know what's causing it, because I've used unBalance in the past on this unRaid setup no problem (just last week in fact). But now, when I try to click on either "plan", "move" or "copy" I get the "not allowed" symbol and can't click it. I also cannot select "dry run". I can select the "from" and "to" on the disks, but without being able to click the pla, copy or move options, there's not much point. I've got a feeling this is something stupid I'm missing, but I cannot see it. Have already tried difference browsers.
  8. Hi all, Last week I've upgraded my Ubiquiti Unifi with a small 10Gbit switch. I've also bought 10Gbit cards for my Windows PC, Unraid box and Qnap NAS. (an Asus ASUS XG-C100C for both the Windows machine and Unraid box, and a Qnap QXG-10G1T for the Qnap NAS - both cards are using the same chip, I just didn't want any compatibility issues, so I put a "real Qnap card" into the Qnap NAS) Now, the Asus card in my Windows PC works fine, and also the Qnap card in the NAS. I'm getting real 10Gbit speeds, awesome to see! But in the Unraid system, it doesn't seem to work. I swapped out the card in my Windows PC, just to make sure I don't have a bad card. I don't. In the Windows PC, both Asus cards work fine. In my Unraid box, the lights of the 10Gbit NIC don't start blinking when I connect an ethernet cable, which I think is very weird. It's like the card hasn't been turned on. On the other hand, when I look in Unraid system devices, I can see the Aquantia corp card mentioned there. Under "network settings", I can see the card there also, under "eth1". But when I try to change any of the settings, like eg. adding a static IP address, the network totally locks up and my Unraid box becomes totally unreachable. I can't even ping to it anymore, not the the 10Gbit card, but also not to the 1 Gbit Intel NIC I've been using for years. The only way to solve this is to login to safe boot GUI and change it back again. Am I missing something obvious here? I seems to me like I am, but I have no clue what it could be. Or could it be that the motherboard of my Unraid system is too old? It is a pretty old setup. The motherboard is an Asus P5E-VM DO , using a dual core Intel CPU. It's only got one PCI-express slot, and maybe 10Gbit is asking too much from this board? I'm using the most recent Unraid version (6.9.2) with all plugins updated to their latest versions. I'll add a couple of screenshots from my network settings screen. Thanks in advance!
  9. OK, so now I'be bought the Asus XG-C100C card, but I've stumbled onto a problem. When I look under "network settings", I now see two network interfaces : eth0 (onboard Intel) and eth1 (atlantic). Eth1 unfortunately states under "interface description" : "shutdown (inactive)" Indeed, when I plug the ethernet cable into the NIC, the lights don't even start to flicker. I tried enabling the atlantic card, but after clicking "done", unRaid didn't respond anymore. The Tower doesn't respond to pings anymore. Edit : after booting into the safe mode GUI and changing the static IP of the atlantic card back into "automatic", I could get a ping from the onboard intel ethernet card again. Phew. Still, the Atlantic card does not show an IP address. So for some reason it still doesn't work. Have I missed something? I do have to confess the motherboard of this PC is pretty old. That might have something to do with it?
  10. Digging up an old thread.... I'm also on the lookout for a decent 10gbit NIC for my unRAID box. That Asus one is relatively cheap and easily accessible. The Aquantia version, as far as I can see, is no longer available. There's also the Qnap version, which uses the same Aquantia chip. It's now 3 years since the last post in this thread about the Asus. Can I assume the firmware of the cards it comes with by default is now up to date so it work right out of the box with unRaid? Cheers!
  11. Thanks for the swift reply! I think I'll take a chance and order it then. My hardware is reasonably recent. If I have more news, I'll post it here too. Cheers!
  12. Did you get it working in the end? I'm also looking into upgrading my network to 10Gbit, and this card is a good candidate.
  13. Indeed. Which I guess is the reason it overwrote the file instead of putting it in a directory. In hindsight, there doesn't seem to be an init.d file in UnRaid, so this wasn't really a problem I guess, but I wasn't comfortable with it nonetheless. I've now installed the User Scripts plugin and created a correct script for my problem. Works excellently. Thanks again for the help, and the speed of which I got helped. Not the first time I might add. This really is one of the friendliest/most helpful communities I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. 👍😀 Cheers!
  14. Normally it doesn't. Tried that a couple of times before. This was also the main reason I wanted to correct this with a startup script because the new setting never kept sticking. But you're probably right. Thanks for easing my mind. Cheers!
  15. Ah, that's good news I guess! But how come Fix Common Problems doesn't find a problem with the write cache any more now? Or does the system have to completely power down for that? I'll have a look at that User Scripts plugin. Didn't know that existed.... Thanks a lot!
  16. Hi all, This is my situation : I have an UnRaid array with 3 HGST drives in it. Everything runs file. Just one snag: Fix common problems reports that for some reason the write cache of these disks is disabled. I can enable it with HDPARM no problem, but after the next reboot I have to redo it. So I figured I'd make a batch file to do this and have it run at startup. Created the batch file, made it executable, tested it, worked fine. Then came the moment I'd have to get this to run at startup. I have little to no Linux experience, but I try. I googled around and found that I could do this with a Cronjob (looked hard), but one site also said : "Put a script containing the command in your /etc directory. Create a script such as "startup.sh" using your favorite text editor. Save the file in your /etc/init.d/ directory." I figured this was about the same as the Windows "startup" folder and did the following : mv startup.sh /etc/init.d This worked, but when I checked, I found the /etc directory didn't contain a directory called init.d, but only a file. Even more, the file contained only what I had put into that batch file! 😬 I rebooted the system and it started up. Even more, it seems to have worked, because Fix Common Problems doesn't report a problem any more. All works fine (for now?), but I'm afraid I also overwrote important stuff that was in init.d before and I could run into problems because of this in the future. So, have I done something stupid and, if so, how can I fix this? Cheers!
  17. Found it! I needed to enable "insecure guest logons". (local group policy editor -> local computer policy -> computer configuration -> administrative templates -> network -> lanman workstation -> enable insecure guest logons. Also explained in this video here , including a registry key file for windows home users who don't have the local group policy editor otherwise. I did everything mentioned in that video, except for re-installing SMB v1. It's not needed to solve this problem (and also insecure).
  18. Oops, it seems I'm still running into issues. Because this is the first time I intend to let this server run 24/7, so I no longer set the shares to public, only to private. When I use my wife's computer and try to access the share \\TOWER\Media (yes, it's a Windows 10 PC), I get the response "no access to \\TOWER. - can't find network path". I already tried setting the username of my wife on the UnRaid server exactly the same as it is on the Windows PC, but it seems I can't do this entirely because she uses two words, so I have to use an underscore and all lower case letters. (don't know if it should be exactly the same, but I figure I'd mention it). When I set the share as public, everything works. But that's no longer what I want, I want to add some security. Edit: I can also access the Tower and its shares with my Android phone no problem. Just need to type in the user and password as expected and it works. With Windows 10, no love. Edit: already installed Local Master Plugin. Doesn't help. What can I do? Cheers!
  19. Ah! Trying to login to the GUI as well. So that doesn't work. OK, I feel stupid now. Move along, nothing to see here. 😇 Cheers!
  20. Hi all, I've been using UnRaid for a while now, but solely as a media server. Up till now, I've done everything as 'root'. I know this is not the correct way to go about this, but I didn't really care because the server only had to serve up media. Now I want to really start using the server more, so also as a true file server, using dockers etc... For this I want to create a user name for me and for my wife, and in the foreseeable future also for both my kids. So today I created a user for me and for my wife. The users are there in the user tab, afaik also correctly set up with a password etc. The shares have also had the correct permissions. Then I logged out and tried to login with the new users. For both the users I get an error, saying "invalid user or password". The only user which work is still only the root user. Did I do something wrong? Using Unraid 6.8.0 rc7 Thanks!
  21. Hi, I'm trying to get this to work, and I can get up to the part where I need to stop/start the array and the VM appears in the VMS tab. Then, when I try to start the VM, it simply disappears and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? Many thanks!
  22. Thanks Johnnie! I'm not home at the moment, but I'll make sure to try this tonight when I get back. Cheers! Edit. That worked! Thanks a lot!
  23. Ok. I've now added the libvirt.img to the storage location, so it now reads "/mnt/user/system/libvirt/libvirt.img". Still, no file is created and the error remains. (when I ssh into the server, I still see no file). I've added another diagnostics file. tower-diagnostics-20191117-2039.zip
  24. Hereby added. Thanks! tower-diagnostics-20191117-1844.zip
