  1. Hello all, i am dealing with a gremlin problem that is very annoying. My unraid server is hosting VMs that are on ubuntu mate. Randomly with no visible reason, the VM wil just reboot for no reason. this happens at random time. Just before this i made an update on one of the VMs that had pending system updates. everything went well and then it starting acting up with random reboots. i cannot confirm the reboot, but i have an uptime robot that is monitering an open port on the VM, it works good for a while and then i get notified that the port is not reponding. i logon the VM and find out that the VM had reboot. checking the uptime using "top" command shows that the VM did reboot because of uptime of bearly 2 or 4mins. rebooted unraid no effect. Bios Settings have not been changed. it was working well before this with uptime of more then 2 months now trying with one VM running to see if having several VMs could be an issue i have unraid version 6.10RC1 with latest virtual io driver 0.1.190 any help appreciated.
  2. Hello all, i need to host a VM that will have a large vdisk (1tb) i have a unraid server that is composed of a mix of 1tb and 500gb hard drives. will this work with how unraid manages the storage on all the drives using high water? for now the vdisk has almost no size since it is empty but it will grow to size. what will happen if the vdisk reaches 1tb. will unraid split the vdisk in multiple files? or will it just grow until filling the entire disk if it has been put on one of the smaller disks when i chose auto location when creating the vdisk. should i invest in bigger drives larger then the vdisk? many thanks for any clarification. Happy new year to all
  3. ok well solved that. just did not tick the user shares in settings > global share settings. now it's ok. how did i miss that 🤣
  4. Hello all. Brand new server setup for backup reasons and configured on release candidate, for some reason unraid did not create the template shares under/mnt/user/ and this disabled a lot of features like doker, VM as well as creating shares. i cannot understand why thi iss happening. al i missing something?
  5. Hello. Folowing mariaDB update hi experienced the same problem. MariaDB was updated while nextcloud was running. i don't know if this is wyse to do it like this, but i wanted to test and see what happenend. and of course it crashed with the same problem. following instructions posted by @whitedwarfi have done the following steps shut down docker nextcloud shut down docker mariaDB edited mariaDB docker and Changed the mariadb docker repository to "linuxserver/mariadb:110.4.21mariabionic-ls31" started the mariaDB docker waited 5mins for cpu utilization to idle on the docker shut down the mariadb docker edited mariaDB docker and Changed the mariadb docker repository to "linuxserver/mariadb:latest" started the mariaDB docker waited 5mins for cpu utilization to idle on the docker started nextcloud docker. Webui for nextcloud up and running again. many thanks to @whitedwarffor the solution. 🙏
  6. Hello all. i am looking for a captive portal solution for guest users. i know there is omada controller in docker for TP-Link access points. but i am not sure this will work for what i wish to achieve. i would like guest users to be able to logon this guest network and enter credentials. if they don't have any, they can request credentials upon sending details for review to the admin. details like first last name and email account to receive temporary automatically generated credentials valid for a period of time they selected on the account request form. is there something like opensource that can help me achieve something like this? many thanks to all for your brilliant ideas, suggestions.
  7. Hello. Many thanks for the link. indeed it seems normal. still i think this drive is toasted while being brand new. todays hard drive quality is not up to yesterday's standards. i moved the drive to another backplane and in another tray. change the sata cable with another one. everything was different. i have stressed the drive with the pluging "preclear disk" no problems found. so re inserted the drive in the pool. rebuilt the parity. everything was good for a week and then the drive failed again with high count of raw read errors. i am going to try a western digital drive.
  8. Hello Wonderful community. 🌟 i have purchassed a new Seagate ironwolf 3tb hard drive afther one of my old Hitachi hard drives a have failed returning me raw read error rates. i have replaced the drive rebuild and everything went fine for a thew days until my new hard drive got disabled for to many raw read errors. i have gone thrue this forum and other forums and did the following. swapped the drive from one bay to another bay swapping with a known and confirmed good drive as well as swapping the cables. the good drive set in the old bay of my faulty seagate drive has no issues. This test enabled me to isolate a possible problem with the back plane on my hotswap bays. no problem there, the issue followed the faulty drive. i then swapped the the cable with another one and change controller port. still no progress, this seagate crappy drive still makes raw read errors. is there something i am missing or something else i should try before asking Seagate why there drives are just junk💩? i've had a good amount of seagate drives and all of them have had the same problem with raw read error rate going high and eventually end up by disabling the hard drive. i have replaced some of them by refurbished Western digital drives and others by very old Hitachi hard drive that work just good💪 with no errors at all. are you also encountering problems with ironwolf / seagate hard drives? what would be the best brand to go with? is Western digital any good concedering the PMR/CMR stuff? does it have any benefit to chose a "NAS" hard drive? i have read that surveillance hard drive could also be a good alternative because designed for heavy duty and high tempatures. My nas server and closet can get hot these days but stays around 30°c and hard drives hardly reach the low end of smart tempatures which is 45°c Many thanks for any advice. 🙏
  9. Hello, have you managed to pin point the source of the problem since then? i have the same issue. I am running MacOS 10.13.6 with unraid 6.8.3. I have a cache ssd so when i copy it end up on the SSD. at first i was thinking it was due to not all of my devices had the same MTU. so i set everything to MTU 1500 standard. unfortunately no change. it still hangs for a minute or two. eventually will fail with a error -36. but not always.
  10. i was transferring from a Mac using default Finder and SMB share. I am still transferring like this. Unraid is now filling up the 2 first disks and it seems it is just ignoring the other drives for unknown reason. Maybe i'm to much in raid technology witch Unraid is not. what i did just know is set the "media" share to"most-free" and see what is does.
  11. data was being transfered through network. trying to transfer again and it seems that is is just filling up the cache drive and just takes the first 3 drives. All other are just ignored. don't know why.
  12. Hello Many thanks for kind reply. Indeed i have my share set to "high water" allocation Method. This happened while i was transferring to my share named "media" hades-diagnostics-20201207-2136.zip
  13. Hello all. Brand new to Unraid, i am testing out the latest release of unraid in trial version 6.8.3 with a custom built computer running an array of 10 disks with 2 parity and a cache drive composed of 2 ssds 256gb for a total of 512gb. Last night i was transferring a 1tb of data and one of the disks just filled up then got the error that the disks was full upon copy. Can't find any option to rebalance the drives. have one of you encountered such issues? it seems like the remaining drives while being seen and enabled in the array they are just ignored. see screenshot. Many thanks to all for kind advice. see link https://ibb.co/P9ppwhn
