Unassigned Devices - Managing Disk Drives and Remote Shares Outside of The Unraid Array
Hi dlandon, Thanks, unfortunately replacing the default script in the Unraid GUI did not work, I've tried this before posting several times, also the drop down menu does not appear when I click on it. I was eventually able to find a workaround using the Unraid console, so posting the solution for any noob like me to save some time in the future. First thing I've done was to adapt the rsync script from the forum user "hoopster" (Thanks a lot for your work!). Then navigated to the settings for the disk connected in the unassigned devices, clicked on default and grabbed the full path provided: in my case: "/boot/config/plugins/unassigned.devices/ATA_ST12000NM0127.sh" I've then opened the Unraid console, and typed: sudo nano /boot/config/plugins/unassigned.devices/ATA_ST12000NM0127.sh Once opened the editor, I've pasted the adapted script and then pressed CTRL+X to save. I then closed the console, went back into the Unraid GUI and pasted the path in the script field, clicked saved and boom...I was finally able to see the script loaded for the disk connected. Last bit I had to figure out was that in order to run the script (at least in my case), I had to enable auto-mount, clicking on manual mount only mounted the disk but did not run the script. I think I could give a custom name to the script file as you mentioned without changing the path but I haven't tested it yet.

Unassigned Devices - Managing Disk Drives and Remote Shares Outside of The Unraid Array
Hello Everyone, I've done my fair bit or research but I could not find anything, if something fairly obvious was missed, please accept my apologies and share the link with me. I've installed all Unassigned Devices plugins, and I've been trying to get rsync to work to copy my shares onto a drive which was previously connected directly to the sata port and which I've now connected via usb without any luck. I've tried to create a new script using the one hoopster posted here Post but when I go into settings for the unassigned disk, and I click on device script, while disk is unmounted, I have the ability to write a new path, populate it automatically if I click on "Default" but I don't get a dropdown and once I click save and I go where the script should be saved, I find nothing and also the path vanishes from the field and I go back to the screenshot at the link below. https://imgur.com/a/vKuaUCV So far I've tried uninstalling all UD plugins, rebooting, using different OSs and Browsers, all with no results. Any suggestions or any idea of what might be happening? Thanks in advance.

Upgrade fees and multiple licenses
Thanks @Kilrah, it’s a little bummer as for home use becomes too expensive at least for my pockets. :)

Upgrade fees and multiple licenses
Hello, I currently own an unleashed license and I’m thinking about getting a Starter license to convert a QNAP 4 bay unit, and with the current offer get a 3rd half price to use for a test/dev environment. Please can you confirm if every year, I’ll need to pay the upgrade fee only once to continue getting updates on all 3 instances or will I need to pay multiple upgrade fees, one for each license I own? Thanks

Site 2 Site Connection
Thanks for the suggestion, this is surely an interesting solution I will implement in a different way. The thing is that I already have a network setup and a site 2 site connection between the 2 locations. What I need help with is the network setup so that the Unraid server sees the other VLAN and what is over in the other location. Thanks

Thanks also for your help Jorge, will have a look and let you know.

Site 2 Site Connection
Hello Everyone, Moving my first steps with Unraid and still adjusting to the differences between the windows, QNAP and Sinology differences. Please be patient with me and if this issue was already discussed, please point me in the right direction as I could not find the post. I've done some research online as well as reading the manual, but I'm not sure which way is the easiest and the best to achieve the below. My new Unraid server will replace an old QNAP server (running QOS) that will go and spend the rest of its days in sunny southern Italy (how lucky!), The Unraid and QNAP servers will be in 2 different geographical locations. I would like to turn the QNAP into a backup server, syncing the data residing on the Unraid one. My home network is segmented with VLANS. I specifically have one (VLAN 99) where a RPI4 client sits, this connects via VPN (WG) to another RPI4 (Server running also WG) in Italy, creating some sort of Site2Site VPN. With the QNAP, to see shares in Italy, all I have to do is to configure the port on VLAN99, set the DNS to point to the client RPI WireGuard client and I can ping the local IPs Italy. The other eth ports are set on my home VLAN. What I was trying to do today to prove this can be done, was to take one of the 4 ports on Unraid out of the bond0, connect it to VLAN99 and see if I could ping an IP on the local network in Italy. It did not work. At this point, I was trying to open using Unassigned Devices a test share folder on a windows PC. I then tried to setup a VPN connection via Network Services, I was not able to run it . While troubleshooting, I stopped as I started to question if: a. VPN is the best option. b. I should persevere in getting the network access setup right (and ask help from the community as I don't know where to start from) c. None of the above and maybe there's a better way. Ideally I would like the server to sit across 2 networks (local and the other abroad) but also shield it from the internet as much as possible to protect the data. I don't want Unraid to advertise any services online. Hope the above makes sense. Obviously happy to provide more details. Thanks in advance to anyone who can spare few minutes to help. Thanks

@JorgeB thanks for all your help. @NickdotB that’s great to hear, glad to know we were able to help identify a bug and improve Unraid.

Hi Jorge, Thanks again for your help. I think I got to the bottom of it. When I tested the server yesterday, I didn't receive an email notification but did get Test alerts from Telegram and Pushover. I found that disconnecting the UPS triggered a browser notification, but no email or agent notifications were sent or received. After fixing the email authentication issue, both email and agent notifications started working without any additional changes. Finding this odd, On my "production" Unraid server, which hadn't sent notifications in weeks, I noticed that the email randomly threw authentication errors. Sometimes it would work, and other times it wouldn’t, leading to "Authentication Failed." (I would push the button to send a test and everything worked fine, pushing the button 10/15 minutes later, would get me "Authentication Failed"). After switching to a Gmail account, and got a successful email test, notifications resumed from email, Telegram, and Pushover. As I believed I was onto something, I've built a fresh 6.12.13 trial usb and I found the following: No email configured: Browser, Telegram, and Pushover notifications worked fine. Email configured correctly: All notifications worked (email, browser, Telegram, Pushover). Incorrectly configured email with authentication issues: Browser notifications worked, but email, Telegram, and Pushover did NOT. Each time I was able to replicate the above, and it feels like to me that the notification service stops, when email notifications throw an error without proceeding to send the notifications via the agents. Do you know if this is by design? What do you think of the above? Thanks again for your help.

I’m lost at this point. would a screen recording help? I can start fresh again and go through the setup. Maybe I’m doing something obvious. have you tried getting a notification after restarting?

Thanks Jorge, will give it a go. When you will have time to test this, please let me know your results. Thanks

Thanks. Obviously this is my 2 cents, but unless there’s an option or something else I disabled/enabled by mistake or is enabled/disabled on the latest versions and not on the older ones and which I’m not aware of, then to me, the only two options once I exclude the hardware, is either a bug or poor software code consistency. I’m wondering, is it possible for me to start from scratch using an old version without losing the data on the disks and the shares? I can then rebuild permissions, plugins, docker containers, etc… but would prefer to avoid the pain to have to move the data again. In general, so far, I’m not overly impressed with UNRAID, especially given it’s price and the yearly tax: random spin ups or no spin downs with zero activity, each restart seems to mess up something (today some plugins were disabled for some reason), the notifications issues, shares access issues, write performance drops…it feels like it’ll be a lot of work to keep it going and I haven’t event started setting up Plex and other services. I truly hope I’m wrong.

Hi Jorge, So done the following, downloaded 6.12.13 on a blank usb stick as a trial, setup just notifications, correctly received tests, but no notifications. Then downloaded 6.12.11 (this is also the version I started building my server, same results as with 6.12.13. Correctly received tests, but no notifications. Lastly downloaded 6.12.9: Telegram notifications working correctly. After a system restart still working. Decided to upgrade 6.12.9 tp 6.12.13: after the upgrade reboot, telegram notifications still working fine. Then setup Pushover, also these working fine. After a restart, all still working fine. To me, this seems to be a bug on new configurations on 6.12.11 and 6.12.13, since upgrading to these versions from 6.12.9 allowed notifications to continue working fine. Would be good if somebody else, could test this too before I report it as a bug or do you think this can be reported straight away? Thanks P.

Yes, nothing in the spam folder, also, I get the test email. On top, I also get zero notifications via telegram or pushover. Once again though, I get the test notifications… It’s very annoying… what would be my next step?

Hello Everyone, Before posting this here, I've checked on Google, reddit and read a bunch of posts, but none of them helped in my instance, if this was discussed already, please can you point me in the right direction? 5-6 weeks ago, when setting up my server, I've setup notifications, via email, telegram and pushover, originally this did not work, but after restarting the server, they started working!. I've soft restarted the server a couple of days later and since then, for the past 5 weeks, no notification have been sent/received. I've restarted the server several time since, and never managed to get one single notification from any of the enabled services other than the tests. When I click the test button, each of them produces a test email or push notification respectively. I've tried disabling, re-enabling, replying to the telegram notifications, re-configuring, restarting, etc... but nothing is working...does anyone know what else I can do and how I can fix this without loosing all the plugins, containers, configurations, etc... although, with the only exception of the data on the drives which I would prefer not to lose ( have it backed up) I could start from scratch. Thanks in advance to anyone taking the time to read this and help.

Double Purchase Refund
Hello, on the 31st of August I’ve purchased the unleashed version taking advantage of the summer discount. Today, I went to redeem the activation code, I went through what I believed was the redemption process, entered my Apple Pay card to ensure each year I would get updates, got authorisation for $0 and then got charged again for the full price of an unleashed license. Not sure I understand what is going on, I want to use unraid, but I only needed one license. As of now, my usb is still unregistered, and I haven’t done anything, the software has not been used. I’ve logged a ticket to request a refund but I’m panicking as I really can’t afford $100+ to be wasted this month, it was already a stretch to buy the license I needed. Anyone been in the same situation? Any advice? Reassurance I will see my money back? thanks to everyone.

Chinese NAS Boards VS traditional setup - Newbie trying to make a decision - Help me Please
Hello everyone, After nearly 9 years I would like to replace my old QNAP TS-453A 4x4TB RAID 5, I’m concerned about the possibility the motherboard will fail, lose the array and the data on it. Because of home size, the NAS is sitting in the living room and the one I have is relatively quiet, the new one will need to use the same space and be as energy efficient as possible. Thanks to the information I was able to gather here and there, reading other posts here already answered several of my questions, but I’m not sure if the configuration below, is too much, too little or simply not advisable. I would like to use a Micro Atx for expandability, but was not able to find a Case small enough and with a hot swap plate. Current use case is for Plex library (possible transcoding sometimes), and to store photos, music, backups and documents. Asrock Z690M-ITX/AX, Intel Z690, 1700, Mini ITX Intel Core i5 13400F 2.5GHz Crucial Pro DDR4 RAM 32GB Kit (2x16GB) 3200MHz LSI MegaRAID 9240-8i RAID Controller Jonsbo N2 or N3 (concerned about noise with N3) 2x Seagate Ironwolf 8TB 2x Seagate Enterprise Capacity 10TB (Refurbished but looks new, not refurbished) 1x Seagate Enterprise Capacity 10TB for Parity - (Refurbished but looks new, not refurbished) Or ASRock A520M-ITX/ac AM4 (concerned about single nic) AMD Ryzen 5 5600G 3.9GHz Crucial Pro DDR4 RAM 32GB Kit (2x16GB) 3200MHz LSI MegaRAID 9240-8i RAID Controller Jonsbo N2 or N3 (concerned about noise with N3) 2x Seagate Ironwolf 8TB 2x Seagate Enterprise Capacity 10TB (Refurbished but looks new, not refurbished) 1x Seagate Enterprise Capacity 10TB for Parity - (Refurbished but looks new, not refurbished) I was also looking at the motherboards below, designed specifically for NAS uses. On paper have everything I need but I’m not able to find any reviews, or information to understand if these will be a safe and reliable choice. https://a.aliexpress.com/_Ezc3hex (I particularly like this one because of vPro) https://a.aliexpress.com/_Ejv1zbV May I ask your opinion and suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
