  1. BTW, that $400 build referred to the full price of the server. The i3 was like $120. Since you already have a case and power supply, you could go with something like: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/YF3Y8d Only $250. If you get serious about upgrading though, i could provide better suggestions, that was thrown together based on what I did a while back. Transcoding is an inevitability. You might as well have the hardware to handle it.
  2. Plex and Netflix are not the same. Netflix works great on everything because Netflix's expensive servers always handle all the transcoding. With Plex, your computer is the source, not Netflix's servers, so when transcoding is necessary, it needs to be powerful enough to handle it. Depending on the types of files you have, different devices will require transcoding for different files. So while you could blame the set top box for not having native support for certain file types/codecs(Thereby requiring transcoding), you could also blame the server for being too weak to reliably transcode. Transcoding is not normally a problem. It sounds like your server is just too weak to handle transcoding. My $400 i3 build from 2 years ago had no issues transcoding anything. Personally, I haven't had to think twice about the transcoding issue since I built my unraid box. Hell, I stream to multiple people at a time without issue, to all sorts of devices.
  3. Any chance you read the release notes? /Facepalm Yikes, sorry, I didn't see it in the previous releases, and I did a ctrl-f on this page for "Midnight" Sorry about that
  4. Any chance of updating Midnight Commander to the latest version? 4.8.10 came out in mid 2013, they are on 4.8.16 now. Don't mind me, I'm an idiot.
  5. Any idea why this container is not getting updates? My install is at 0.12.19, but 0.12.21 is the latest release, as per https://github.com/syncthing/syncthing/releases. There doesn't seem to be any update functionality within the container itself. I have tried stopping and restarting the container, which works for other LinuxServer.io containers like Plex, but that's not working. My log shows: We are now refreshing packages from apt repositorys, this *may* take a while Update: ERROR Edit: Nevermind. I just deleted it and reinstalled, and now I'm at 0.12.21
  6. Oh, cool. I'll keep an eye on this. I assume it remembers your place, and allows for variable speed playback? I know Plex is planning to roll out Audiobook functionality before too long, so that might end up filling this need for me, but it's good to know about regardless.
  7. If you keep all of your config files on your array or cache drive, this is not the slightest problem. Go re-add each docker container from the Docker tab. Press "Add Container". When you go to add a container, your templates dropdown should now include a [templates-user] section that has your last used settings(port mappings, storage mappings, etc) for each docker saved. I have lost all of my containers quite a few times for various reasons, but it's never more than a slight hiccup. After reinstalling the containers, they come back up with all of their settings/config and get right back to work.
  8. Docker, definitely. I wouldn't even think of doing a VM. Off the top of my head, if the VM itself has a problem, or one of the apps does, it'll take down everything. With Docker, they are all separate. I'm pretty sure Docker will be lighter on resources too. Everything is more contained, easier to manage, easier to update, etc.
  9. Hah, they said 6.2 RC1 would probably come next when they released 6.1.7. 2 releases and nearly 2 months ago. But I'm sure they know what they are doing, I'm hoping we really do have it soon.
  10. The new Apple TV has a very nice Plex App. The third gen apple TV cannot be jailbroken, but the first 2 can. I'd just get the new one though, if that's the issue. Take a look, it's probably the best looking Plex app: https://blog.plex.tv/2015/11/02/plex-on-the-new-apple-tv/ and https://plex.tv/appletv Plus, then all of her progress on shows and movies would by synced across all devices she may use to watch on.
  11. Why not just use something like Plex or Emby?
  12. Yay, the update/notification bug is fixed!
  13. I sent ASRock a support email through their website about this, along with asking for clarification about whether PCIe Gen3 and NVME being the same thing. I never heard back. I own the Extreme4 btw.
  14. I don't suppose you have a ASRock Z-170 Motherboard do you? I encountered the same sort of bios issue as you with my recent upgrade.
  15. Yeah, for future reference, what I was trying to say to do was to: 1) Delete(or rename) the docker image. This will leave you with 0 dockers installed. This isn't a problem, because you should have your container configs on your array or cache drive, and the flash has templates of all of your most recent settings/mappings for each docker container you have ever installed 2) Create a new docker image 3) Add each container back. Go to the template drop down and select the containers you want to reinstall from the [templates-user] list Each container should reinstall just fine, and will be pointed to the config files you were using before. They should all work again like nothing happened. I have done this several times now.
  16. Maybe not the best solution, but I would try Syncthing.
  17. Does anything support Modpacks and easily keeping them updated?
  18. A reboot or a new docker image would probably fix this. What's the error?
  19. I'm curious, what docker are you trying to even install? Couldn't you move the machine to a place with internet temporarily, install, and move it back?
  20. Unraid does not have a function that balances files post write. The only balancing happens at the time of the write, when the user share logic decides what disk to write to. There are plugins that might be able to help you balance your data. Oh that's bummer... I would thought that would be one of the most requested feature... Can you point me to the plug in that could help me? Meanwhile I've got to start moving files... In addition to moving the files, you need to examine your user share settings, because that is what determined how all those files wound up on that disk instead of any of the other disks in the first place. When you are examining your user share settings, turn on the help button and it will explain what all the settings do. The plugin you are looking for is unBalance. See search tips in my sig. thanks! I'll check out the plugin. for all the files (except for few of the cached disks that I need to be on SSD), I have selected to use all disks with the same split level. My thought was that unraid would be smart enough to balance the disks if one of the disk is low on space regardless of the level of the directory. Can you elaborate on what I could have done?? You should post screenshots of your shares settings, because unRaid absolutely is smart enough to do that. It doesn't "balance the disk if it's low on space", it prevents one disk from getting way lower on space than the others by default.

If not, then your share config must be wrong. unRaid by default will fill a disk to a low % and then move onto the next one. But if you set a share to only include a certain disk, that won't happen. Hence why it's not a feature anyone really needs.

  23. Help with what aspect of it? It's easy. Install the community applications plugin, install a Plex docker container(i recommend linuxservers.io's), and go. Anything else is covered in the docker forum
  24. How are you running Steam without a VM? So like your steam directory is on an unRaid Share? Yikes, I would never do that, even if it works it will be slow, i'd bet. Chances are it's not properly mapping to those drives, or maybe there is a security issue. IDK.
  25. The thing you linked to said that it has to be 2 drives due to the need for a parity drive. While setting up my brother's server, it only had one drive initially(the others were in the mail). It worked fine.
