  1. still haven't ruled out possibility of faulty network card on the unRAID box... have seen working network cards only work on static address and not on dhcp and cards that will only work on 10MB even though reporting 1000MB ...... so there might be something or not ....
  2. I suspected the network too, but as you can see, my copy from the unraid server is at 40MB/s there are different transmit and receive pairs on the cabling so just maybe there is a hardware error somewhere's along the data line.... just putting that out there (stranger things have happened)
  3. my 2 cents, have you tried new network cable, tried different port on the gig switch, rebooted the gig switch, rebooted the server, different network card if possible.. just all the usual troubleshooting steps to make sure the hardware is sound..
  4. one question... don't these high capacity drives need special controller cards..?
  5. +1 also want to know if this card works with the latest beta
  6. Hi Edgar sorry for the late reply .... i can confirm i have my card set in port multiplier mode.
  7. geez, there is a question i just plonked in the machine and attached my icydock 5 in 3 exp to it and carried on, i can open and look for you later (+/- 5 hours from now) if it's a need. ? in regards to the other thing of the driver issue i was gonna wait for them to come out of beta on v5.x.. and see if it was included??.., maybe now is the time to say something and get the matter resolved ... any idea's from the moderators if they are looking at this thread??
  8. i have one of these fine cards in my system as well and i had the same problem with 5.x upwards and then it i tried on the 4.x range and all is fine. i thought the drivers would be included at a later date but the non reply's to your post leave me doubting....
  9. In my country i just got pricing for 2 different drives but same size... (2TB) WD Caviar Black 64 ... price 1500 Seagate Barracuda ST32000542AS, NCQ ... price 890 so do i buy 2 seagate's or 1 wd is there that big a difference to unRAID any suggestions as to ease of use under 4.7 or configuration problems....?
  10. Except for that weird hiccup, everything was smooth. I swear I always have the worst/best luck with everything. Worst on the receiving end, best if I'm a beta tester. I always seem to find that one tiny exception nobody else encounters. +1 know exactly how you feel...
  11. thanks for the answer, still need input... when i run the command that JoeL said which is "hdparm -N /dev/sde" i get the following reply.. "/dev/sde: max sectors = 1953523055/7368112, HPA setting seems invalid" is there something wrong.. what should i see here ? i have not done any other commands as i am VERY scared of data loss and i have a good working array. thanks ran the command JoeL posted a few posts up and now it's doing a rebuild.. (finger crossed, then i can upgrade to 4.7.. thanks JoeL) just for info sake all went very smooth JoeL's commands worked fine no data loss and running v4.7... thanks to all involved. (just interesting to note that all the disks i have came shrink wrapped and the fact that they have been ONLY in this machine is wierd that the hdd was in another machine at one stage..!!!)
  12. Hi there Joe, prostuff i have FINALLY got around to upgrading my unRAID software and i was busy following the instructions to disable the BIOS settings but i notice i actually have a intel motherboard... what now?? there is no setting for the HPA. thanks

  14. i want to say thanks all for the very quick responses but i just copied back my old bzimage and root etc. and the array is working fine and i will attempt to correct this other problem on the weekend, is there any chance of data loss following those instructions? thanks
  15. i have just moved from 4.6-rc2 to 4.7 all was well before the upgrade (only copied bzimage, bzroot and memtest) and have not changed ANY hardware or bios settings etc. just a reboot and i get disk too small error i have attached my syslog and a screenshot.. not sure what too do please help. syslog-2011-01-26.txt

  22. Disk Temperature: 28C, Elapsed Time: 18:11:33 ============================================================================ == == Disk /dev/sdc has been successfully precleared == ============================================================================ S.M.A.R.T. error count differences detected after pre-clear note, some 'raw' values may change, but not be an indication of a problem 71c71 < 190 Airflow_Temperature_Cel 0x0022 076 070 000 Old_age Always - 24 (Lifetime Min/Max 24/24) --- > 190 Airflow_Temperature_Cel 0x0022 072 070 000 Old_age Always - 28 (Lifetime Min/Max 24/30) 78c78 < 201 Soft_Read_Error_Rate 0x000a 253 253 000 Old_age Always - 0 --- > 201 Soft_Read_Error_Rate 0x000a 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 ============================================================================ This is my output of my one drive and i am not sure what i am looking for, i have read a some of the preclear thread but it's very involved. Is there any guide to what comes out of this script and what to look for. i hope it's not somewhere obvious cause i did look. thanks After 14+ hours your disk temperature went from 25C to 28C. I'd say that in itself is not too serious but it does say you have some serious fans. The S.M.A.R.T. wiki here indicates that attribute 200 is You started with the default initialized value of 253, and after a full 14+ hour pre-clear cycle, it has a normalized value of 100. The failure threshold is 0. You are nowhere close to the failure threshold value, so unless it changes over time, you are fine there too. Joe L. this answered my question... sorry if i wasted anyone's time...
  23. sorry for the newbie question but i did try to search and found nothing. is there any way to install unmenu if you are behind a proxy server? thank you
  24. thanks for all your help, went back to v4.5.6 and ALL is working well, so thanks for the advice. can i assume the new release of v5 will eventually include these drivers or should i have a work with limetech before i purchase unRAID. once again thanks for all your help.
  25. Sorry for that using version 5 beta 2 of unRaid I am not sure what your telling me about the port multipliers, i am not aware of this card being one. Do you mean an extra purchase for me? thanks
