  1. must be running ZFS .... ;D ;D has anyone found the original post yet ?
  2. i truly believe every single service provider on the planet does this... back in the day when bandwidth was very scare we had a isp who sold us 128k line for our internet and mail only to find out from an employee that left that the whole business (30 dial ups and 2 64k clients excluding ourselves) ran only on 1 128k link upstream to the next isp!!??
  3. not only that BUT at least we know why the is no release... thank you thank you thank you for keeping us in the loop... ;D ;D ;D
  4. It wouldn't made any difference, because unRAID is susceptible to massive erase as well. The only filesystem tool that would *really* helped is snapshot, like in [move]ZFS.[/move] :) :) if only it supported different sized disks i would be on it like white on rice :) :)
  5. i have been thinking about that exact point for a while now and i would like to say something which i hope is not taken wrong... is functionality less important than a nice looking gui.. ? cause functionally unraid is pretty solid and does what it says on the box and is pretty unique and is'nt that all that counts ? please note i have also stated how stunning simplefeatures is but will unraid function any different without it ? please NOTE that all the above is questions and not statements.. before i offend someone.
  6. Tom, did you investigate the possibility of increase the parity protection to two or maybe more drives? I know this require a major driver rewrite, but since drives become larger and rebuild time increases, this can be as important as increasing the drive limit. This is just my humble opinion. +1 may i also say please do not let this be a feature only be in the pro version only, i would also like to access this feature in the plus version (obviously it would not count as a data disk so there would still be 5?)
  7. So, you're advocating releasing a 'stable' version where one of the advertised features may not work reliably? +1 agreed does not make sense
  8. thanks alot guys for your devotion too this totally awesome GUI for unRAID it makes unRAID really beautiful...
  9. Tomm please just keep us in the loop with what your doing ...... [move]I BEG YOU........[/move] and i have moved from the naysayers to the where not worthy of Tomm's code.... : :
  10. +1 for this and to add to this is if the card is not working then the conundrum exists as follows unRAID is a product that has a long list of incompatible hardware and compatible hardware so enjoy the fact that it did or did not work and move on OR wait .... or get compatible hardware as i did [Lian-Li IB-01] and move on ...!!
  11. this might not be the right thread but tell me all the complainers including myself, THERE IS NOTHING OUT THERE THAT CAN TOUCH UNRAID... so where will you go once you are finished threatening with all your threads ? there is ONLY ONE THING OUT THERE ZFS!!!!!!!!!!!! but it does not have most of the features of unRAID and it definitely has a few unique features ... don't like the fact that you need same size disks or else i might have used it.... EON for FTW
  12. [move]While I will not defend Tom's silence for months on end[/move], I think the above is unfair. I'm disappointed in the delays too - but I'm not aware of any formal guarantee that all future versions are free upgrades. I am very happy that new versions are free, and do not consider it something he legally owes us. (Or even morally) +1 there is VERY few software programs out there that have free lifetime upgrades SO relax and enjoy 4.7 cause that's what you paid for.... actually there are quite alot of software with lifetime licenses.....and besides that... i paid for unraid as a whole from 4.7 to whenevr it stops being free for upgrades............if tom wishes to charge for the 5.0 upgrade that would be fine if it worked.......if 5.0 was to be a paid upgrade it would have been announced at the beginning of the beta.... im just stating that a main issue here is the lsi cards.....and it just seems that there is no internal testing being done for them at all....and since there are ALOT of people using the lsi cards it would be a priority...... not trying to start a war here......just stating that if nfs is messed up and lsi cards dont work in newer kernels why continue to update to them? also the fact that users on the forum have released beta 14 with the new kernel and others users stated that the same problems exsist...why put it in the RC1? have you not read that the lsi cards are a kernel problem so that's out of limetech's control as far as i knoiw

  14. my answer to some of your statement is i don't think unRAID was meant to be an enterprise solution, i do realize active directory is included but people use AD at home.My main comment for this is the speed issue to disk access ratio of unRAID it was a data integrity to speed loss as stated somewhere in the main features of unRAID
  15. ditto just finished trying meedios and don't like it used to used gbpvr cause it was so simple but XBMC FTW
  16. just saw the screenies and looks good you tried it yet ?
  17. well we all know that...im just sayin..lol why does it sell so well ? i don't get it yes it's easy to use but there are so many comments of incompatible hard drives
  18. After various posts i have done on the subject, i have gleaned the following so maybe it will help.. 1.] you paid for v4.7 and got it.. the fact that limetech is willing to give v5 for free is a bonus 2.] the problems as stated are out of limetech's control and have been stated so on a lot of occasions 3.] agreed about the 'when it's ready' thing but if there really is no answer to when it's ready there really is none 4.] and to the fact that it's a one man show i agree as there have been no proof otherwise 5.] as to other project's cannot comment as no mention otherwise but he is relocating and seriously taking very looooong 6.] and the general demeanor around here is take it or leave it.. and i really enjoy this software so i choose to take it ....
  19. agreed also did not find anything related to server monitoring
  20. If you're running V5, try SimpleFeatures Stats. It has realtime/historic CPU, Memory and Network stats in an easy to read interactive graph. Drive temps aren't there yet, but have an interface plan for the disks iops and temps on the go i agree your simplefeatures is just brilliant. thanks
  21. i am sure this is gonna start another type of conversation but is there anything for android that's similar.
  22. OK lets not start exaggerating here. I'm not a developer and I'm definitely not linux savvy and I can SAFELY SAY that it did not take me hours of screwing around to do anything other than just holding files. Maybe our brains work differently but I can definitely say that what you have described has NEVER been my experience. Every addon I've installed has been up and running with MINIMAL effort. Hell getting unRaid up and running for me (4-5 years ago?) took less than 15 minutes to build the spare computer out of parts... and then about 5 minutes to boot it up and configure it with the 3 drives I had installed. Lets not start throwing absurdities out there... you just look foolish in the end. +1

  24. Thank you GreyWolf for this concise and up to date post, we need a sticky for a post like this a the top of the forum and then all can see the current status. A post like this is all most people are asking for instead of trolling through hundreds of posts to find the relevant details on the unRAID status... can we have a sticky similar to this please ?
  25. thanks forgot which dir is the right dir to copy into, works fine now.
