  1. Hey guys, I just bought RS2wC080 (SAS9240-8i) hoping that reconfig to IT mode was straight-forward. With small amount of reading here I'm quickly learning it may not be... So, appologies for the noob question, but do I just install LSI MegaRAID SAS2008 Controller.zip - 5.32 MB posted on the first page, and will there be a windows gui to provide me an option to flash it in IT/pass through mode? Is there a step-by-step instruction burried in this 60+ pages post? I tried going through first couple pages, and my brain started hurting...
  2. oh, I thought it was acting like RAID0+1, or RAID1+0 where you get an additional performance of having an additional pair of drive after the initial pair
  3. I was thinking about getting either intel 730 or 850 pro as cache drives (I have none right now). But I was wondering how much of performance boost I will get by getting a third SSD? Based on my understanding having 2 drives will have no performance impact due to raid 1 ish, but having 3rd or 4th may impact the speed. is this true? Is it worth investing another $$ for a third one? My wallet is pretty tight, so I could "not" buy another drive, if it doesn't make much of sense...
  4. I found that there is PWM splitter that combines three 4pin connections into one 4pin and mole. Will this work for my scenario? http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812311002&cm_re=PWM_Splitter-_-12-311-002-_-Product
  5. I'm thinking about getting NORCO RPC-4224, but I would have to replace the loud fans with the Noctua fans. I want fans to be pwm so that my motherboard can control my fans. But I quickly learned that my mobo only supports 3 casefans. Are there anyways to combine 3 front fans and 2 back fans into one, and have them connect to both PSU (for power) and mobo for fan control? seems like I can only do one or the other, but just wanted to know if this is possible. I thought of connecting all of them to PSU, but I'm worried that they'll all run at full speed, and I head even Noctua fans are loud under full speed.
  6. got it! upon rewatching the video again, he only has one (not even pair drive) set for UnRAID array, didn't even know that was possible, I thought you needed an array. I don't have a cache drive, and I've been wondering why transferspeed between windows VM and usershare. Perhaps adding bunch of SSDs will help? Also, do anyone know what RAID / SAS Host he's using? I have IBM M1015, which comes with 2 SAS connections, I was thinking about geting 2 more as I need 4 more ports, but it looks like he has a card that comes with 4 ports
  7. Oh So, the files aren't tapping into the Seagate drives? that makes sense
  8. If that's the case, how is he getting 1GB/s? I thought he said he's Seagate was capable of 200MB/s?
  9. Hi guys, I'm kinda new to the whole UNRAID thing, but I thought UNRAID puts the files in water-fall in the sense that it technically writes files to two drives (one pairing drive), so if the SAS drive was capable of 200MB/s write, wouldn't it stop there? Sorry I'm all new to the server world, and I'm trying to learn all these.
  10. were you able to solve the issue?? I'm having exactly the same issue, wondering what the solution is
  11. Ohh good to know, I thought it was dedicating the core to the VM, and other applications even the ones on the host cannot access it. I'm learning new things everyday!! thanks for the help and I'll now get my hands dirty!
  12. Oh got it, thought you were saying I share the folder within VM. Do you see any issues with this approach? would you happen to know if there is anyway to minimize the windows footprint? Considering all I will the VM do is sync OneDrive with internet, I want to make sure windows won't take too much resources. I could give up 1/4 of CPU core from plex to VM, but it would be great if there's a way for me to not even give up 1 core...
  13. Are you suggesting to share the folder within Windows VM? My concern is that I don't really wat to rely on the windows vm. IF aything I want to use the VM jus to sync with onedrve, and nothing else. For all the other usage, like sharing the folder within network, I wanted to use UNRAID. After all that's what NAS is suppoed to do, right?
  14. I'm thinking of building NAS powered by unraid. But one thing I need is a onedrive. Right now, I have a gaming rig that has a OneDrive and is shared within the network. The Onedrive folder contains media folder that is being used for plex. I read that I could have Windows VM on Unraid, and it got me thinking whether I could have the following solution: [*]Have a folder within unraid [*]Create Windows VM [*]Share the unraid folder with vm (I'm assuming/hoping it works much like virtualbox) [*]Change OneDrive Target Folder to the unraid shared folder within VM [*]Setup Plex Media Server and add the media folder within one drive With the approach above, I'm assuming I'm having to give up at least a CPU core for having windows running, but I could go and get a cheap quad core cpu to compensate. Could you please tell me if this is possible? Am I on a right track? thanks!
