  1. did that one Preclear OK? or was it already pre-cleared?
  2. I'm new to the plugin - so take this with a grain of salt... Tools, Preclear - is where i started my process. Your first post you mentioned seeing something in the window... where'd that come from? Can you post a screenshot of that?
  3. What happens when yo go to the Web gui? Tools, PreClear ... you should see a <@> eye looking icon near the disk that's being cleared. click that you should get either a pop-up or a popunder with infoo
  4. So it looks like my USB stick is failing in the middle of this. Got an alert from unraid that the usb is read only. I had one smaller disk doing 1 cycle, it failed post-read. Should I wait for the other preclears to get to post read phase and shutdown? Or is there no point? Reboot and restart from this cycle?
  5. Dang - should've waited for your reply. I did erase and clear. I've got 3 cycles going and it just started the erasing. If i cancel it after cycle 1, will i still get a full comparative report? I know 3 cycles might be overkll, but for some reason these HGST drives are suddenly getting skewered in reviews at Newegg. Just playing it safe. Thanks!
  6. Thanks for tihs script @gfjardim. I would put this right up front in the OP. So Erase and Clear is what the default PreClear script would normally do, right?
  7. does this email the Smart before and after reports at the end of all the cycles, like the original?
  8. any side effects of this? I've been running a perc h310 for about 2 weeks now, and just realized that i'm suffering from the memory issue (on my x58 mobo, it just disabled one dimm slot). i stumbled on this when i was trying to see if this is compatible with the intel expander (don't know how i got a hit, but glad i did)!
  9. This is an unfair statement to make, as of course this trumps any work being carried out on unRAID. At the time that information wasn't widely known (and still isn't), but is does however reinforce the importance of communication and is all one asked. i'm using SF on mine - with 4GB of ram. sucks that it happens in final also. i'm guessing at some point when the issues about the new gui are sorted out, it'll all work nice. for what it's worth, UnMenu still works when this happens so I can safely shutdown/reboot. good to have options.
  10. AGREE.... we pushed for a final'ed 5. we got it. he has personal stuff to deal with. let that happen. I for one, have stayed on the rc16c since it's been very stable. The only thing is the occasional loss of the web gui; takes a quick reboot to fix. Once the new gui stuff is sorted out, i'll move to 5.0 or perhaps it'll be 5.1 by then.
  11. now that 5.0 final is released... has this changed? i need to go re-read the latest goings on around here.
  12. thank you - i'm going to try this as soon as my child stops watching his show, I can shut things down.
  13. can I ask a bit more on this? i'm assuming I need to change the vSwitch to be 10G also? I think I tried the vmnet3 but that was before I had installed zeron's? vmtools. Never thought of going back to try it..until your post.
  14. OK so the pre-clear finished; I used the powerdown@ script at root ... either that or the VMTools somehow managed to stop the array and shut down cleanly. Some of the results seem high, this is a refurb drive, do they keep the smart values from whatever previous failure? Raw_Read_Error_Rate = 112 100 6 ok 49924603 Spin_Retry_Count = 100 100 97 near_thresh 0 End-to-End_Error = 100 100 99 near_thresh 0 Airflow_Temperature_Cel = 65 67 45 near_thresh 35 Temperature_Celsius = 35 33 0 ok 35 Hardware_ECC_Recovered = 51 100 0 ok 49924603 No SMART attributes are FAILING_NOW 0 sectors were pending re-allocation before the start of the preclear. 0 sectors were pending re-allocation after pre-read in cycle 1 of 3. 0 sectors were pending re-allocation after zero of disk in cycle 1 of 3. 0 sectors were pending re-allocation after post-read in cycle 1 of 3. 0 sectors were pending re-allocation after zero of disk in cycle 2 of 3. 0 sectors were pending re-allocation after post-read in cycle 2 of 3. 0 sectors were pending re-allocation after zero of disk in cycle 3 of 3. 0 sectors are pending re-allocation at the end of the preclear, the number of sectors pending re-allocation did not change. 0 sectors had been re-allocated before the start of the preclear. 0 sectors are re-allocated at the end of the preclear, the number of sectors re-allocated did not change.
  15. you should be fine (unless it does eventually proceed) so far, looks OK - still running on cycle 3; now 10 of 10, at about 20%... my webui is gone, i'm hoping that when this finishes, i can still safely shutdown.
  16. ARGGH!! I stupidly initiated a Guest shutdown of my Unraid VM while the pre-clear was running. The good news is, it looks like the shutdown didn't proceed... If for some reason the shutdown does happen, is my pre-clear in risk of any danger? i'm 53% into stage 10 of 10; on cycle 2 of 3...
  17. I just got a replacement 1TB for a failed drive (wasn't part of the array yet). It doesn't seem to be an Advanced Format drive... can someone tell me the logic behind using -A for all drives, as noted in this thread? http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=21088.0 Should I follow that and allow the 4K alignment?
  18. ha! that would be too damned easy! I know disk manager lets you mount MS's VHDs, so I thought you were saying to do something similar. thanks. i'm in the middle of stabilizing one of my VMs that started giving me issues after moving to 5.0. as soon as that's done, this will be next.
  19. perfect - that's faster than I'd ever test them anyhow. just in case you get bored of this and move on, want to make sure we can maintain. totally outside the scope of this - but if the vmdk is on a default esxi datastore, is there a networkable path where it's accessible? or download to the vm, mount, update, then re-up to the datastore?
  20. licensing and all that other fun stuff will remain the same right? the only catch with this is we'd have to wait for the vmdk to be updated to upgrade between versions? i recall in the original thread someone had linked up a tutorial on building the vmdk, but i swear i thought we had to rinse and repeat to make *any* changes ... that's why i backed off and went the plop route.
  21. if moving off from plop, can I still make changes to \\tower\flash ? or does that option go away when using this setup?
  22. All modern disks lie about their geometry. You can ignore what it says. There is absolutely no way the disk has that many heads, nor a fixed number of cylinders per track. The actual geometry has a variable number of sectors per track, and only a few disk heads. Joe L. Thanks! got nervous - wasn't sure what it was saying... finally got my situation sorted out. i'm starting to move data over to my new array.
