  1. I'm using a Fractal Node 804 case with an LSI raid card, 10 drives, dual Parity, dual SSD cache drives... pretty rock solid. Love the Case, Have fans in every place it can and I couldn't be happier. One thing is when you buy the SFF8087 to SATA cables you will find that one cable needs to be 6 inches longer. Enjoy, @TinkerToyTech
  2. That's because we foolishly start out on consumer gear and did not know that they made Dual Xeon E5-2670 Motherboards that fit inside a Standard ATX tower case, or we get it in our blood and think that our consumer gear might as well be a server too!
  3. I use CrashPlan for user data (data files created by the user) i.e. users documents folders, et. al, backups, and then to the CrashPlan cloud (15 bucks a month, unlimited) seeing that Windows10 now refreshes / rebuilds it'self. Not being an Advertisement but CrashPlan home can backup to another computer on the network. Your Crashplan Docker will be the other computer on the network. Then backing up the backup to the cloud is up to you, whether that is CrashPlan cloud or Amazon S3 with a suitable other Docker such as S3Backup, duplicati, etc. for those who want to send their backups there. Right now I'm using Crashplan home, code42.com 's backup product. I send each user's documents and Settings directories to the CrashPlan cloud, and a SyncToy backup to my Backup user share on my unraid server for each device on the Home Network. Setting your backup (and then it's backup) should be "set it and forget it" task. In other words, once you set this up it should happen in the background, without user intervention, from now to eternity... You should, it is hoped, once you have all the bugs and kinks out of this, should save you from losing any files. Here is THE BOOK on digital asset management: https://www.amazon.com/DAM-Book-Digital-Management-Photographers/dp/0596100183 THE 3-2-1 BACKUP RULE: Here's the rule of three. It's a long time computer-person rule of thumb that you can apply to your life now. It's also called the Backup 3-2-1 rule. 3 copies of anything you care about - Two isn't enough if it's important. 2 different formats - Example: Dropbox+DVDs or Hard Drive+Memory Stick or CD+Crash Plan, or more 1 off-site backup - If the house burns down, how will you get your memories back? Setting up the CrashPlan docker, and all that it entails is beyond the scope of this post. To Help you get a start and to help focus on there's many ideas on The TechGuyLabs Site, Here's some links: http://techguylabs.com/episodes/1021/how-can-i-future-proof-my-backups and from https://www.us-cert.gov/sites/default/files/publications/data_backup_options.pdf here's the 'close enough for gov't work pdf' data_backup_options.pdf
  4. Yup, it's over But I nabbed 2 online and they shucked no problem with 4 pieces from my old PayPal debit card and my fingernails without a tb broke that I I can tell. I'm not going to snap it back together to test to be sure. Took my drobo5N (6+6+8+3+3) 40 hours to rebuild but it's happy. The second drive is going into the open spot in unraid server plus @TinkerToyTech
  5. I have swap parts for everything but the drives. besides the Int#16 errors on the console, I'm seeing: Call Traces found on your server /var/log is getting full (currently 56 % used)
  6. 6.3.5 int#16 errors on console, logs attached, now what? I've been at this a while, but I'm still very much a noob. I'm attaching my logs to get assistance because I have no idea what's wrong... cube-diagnostics-20170724-0917.zip
  7. Intel I350-T4 PCI-Express PCI-E Four RJ45 Gigabit Ports Server Adapter NIC card Ok, next question for you: this card fully supported by unraid? I am upgrading the 2600K in my server to a 3770, Any problems using this to support this card? How about PF Sense? Win10Pro x64VM? My wild haired idea is to bond 2 channels on the server and switch, then running the other 2 ports on the card as a 'fart' filter to run PF Sense to block ads / malware, and stuff like that to lower the BS I see while surfing the net. The server will have two 8 port LSI cards full of drives on it as well. Or am I expecting too much out of my socket 1155 based machine with 32gb of ram? Thanks for any and all feedback you can pass along... @TinkerToyTech
  8. Thank you for both answers. I was wondering both how to replace them and to where to get them myself. ### [Ticket Closed] ###
  9. Hi, Where do I re-download the virtio drivers? (Most current) somehow mine are beamed up...
  10. Few recommendations I will make to you: start out with your DUAL PARITY drives, the pair of Largest drives you are ever planning using as new drives. I went out and bought a TWO of the MyBookDuo's, because they were the least expensive way to get pair of 8TB drives and an enclosure for WD RED drives. This gives me my Dual Parity, and in one fell swoop, 16TB MyBook Duo full of my data backed up in one place, where I then sorted out all into their right places, TV, Movies, Music, Backups, et.al together from 10 drives backed off to the second MyBookDuo. Data All, sorted, old drives precleared (think of preclear as the old Novell CompSurf (Comprehensive Surface analysis) plug the second 16TB in and copy your data to the unraid, further sorting things. The reason I keep bring up the further sorting thing is I found that over XX years I found my method for logically sorting things had morphed and changed over the decades and now I'm looking at it yet again on each drive? I didn't do too bad, lump 10 drives together? OMG what a flustercluck. Get your Proper IT Mode Host Bus Adaptor(s): I would look onEbay first, you might find cards already flashed to IT Mode. PCI-e8 v2.0 cards for about 60 bucks off Ebay; PCI-e8 3.0 cards were recently spotted for 99 bucks each (I bought a pair) from NewEgg.
  11. I see from looking the next decimal release will potentially covering it. I will be moving to a bigger motherboard in my itx mobo'd server and will be buying cards and switches on release.
  12. ASUS XG-C100C 10G Network Adapter PCI-E x4 Card with Single RJ-45 Port and built-in QoS for Use with Windows 10 / 8.1 / 8 / 7 and Linux Kernel 4.4 / 4.2 / 3.6 / 3.2 (XG-C100C) https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320272&cm_re=10G-T_network_cards-_-33-320-272-_-Product
  13. I'm wondering if this addon card is supported... 7 port USB3 pci-E1 card https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0196SQVFO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  14. ok, so my plans to use a motherboard with built in wifi as a pfsense router is impossible because the Hypervisor Needs support to pass it through then?
  15. Well, they showed up, will test later
  16. A case that'll take 4 5 in3 modules that I had good luck with is the Antec 1200. my 2 cents worth. https://www.amazon.com/Antec-Twelve-Hundred-V3-Gaming/dp/B004INH0FS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1498083812&sr=8-1&keywords=antec+1200+v3
  17. Squid With the answer!. or more like I win with squids' answer. thank you squid, thank you so much. I can't afford it this month but if you look over things and help configure, I'll hire you next month! ##ticket closed##
  18. static IP, my apologies if I hadn't made that clear
  19. I have not tried that yet, what I need is a 10.0.0.x DHCP served network and Comcast has their gear back. I have an ubiquity edge max router in a box in the shop but I don't know much about it and it's more than I want to learn how to run it via command line if necessary
  20. no, the current network and software does not see the unit
  21. Hi, sI've hit up the Drobo folks w/o answer, maybe someone here can help me, I have 5x6tb drives full of data in a drobo5N that was on a network with a 10.0.0.x ip, My new provider is a 192.168.0.x I have a second, unpopulated device, that I can reset and move the drives into with some help. but if there is and easy way for importing the data I can do, such as plugging a usb3 to Ethernet adaptor and some well documented typing trickery, please turn me on. Please keep in mind that I'm a Linux noob, so if you are going to offer an idea, please document the heck out of your muse - ings enough that a noob can puzzle it out It's this 30tb limit that required me to build the little 40 TB itx monster that I have built new alongside my old license for a full server
  22. I'll let ya know, I ordered 2 to go in my big server
  23. I'll buy it if you take PayPal and can ship to Mn USA 55122
  24. ok, so you are taking a side to side airflow, now I see. ok, maybe I'll hack that in a few months, have to get my audio server up 100% and them the video, Plex, Windows VM machine going after, yes, you get it, I'm juggling far too many projects w/o any in person assistance. Ah well. I've accomplished much today, thought I'd scan the forums
  25. Hi, I've shut off my testing server, requested an extension to the trial so I can see the performance with its full complement of drives and I understand completely that it was a holiday in the US and UK. Please review my request for an extension.
