  1. Thanks JRD680, My son appreciated the comment greatly. He named the Server Rubix Cube. (yes I know cable management could be a bit better but nothing interferes (most importantly) and the cube kinda stays outta sight) He is very proud of his first computer build This is an HTPC/Media server/VM machine/Personal Cloud/ and so many other things. (Audio outputs drive studio monitors, Sounds amazing:-)) Just love the flexibility of Unraid. By the Way, "EVERYTHING" just worked on its initial power up, could not have been more pleased with that. The processor is an AMD 7860K with Stock cooler with provides more that enough oomph to transcode and do what I need it to without gobbling up too much energy. Beats the pants off of my old ReadyNas NV+ v2 Extremely happy with this build and it has not crashed or hiccupped or anything since building. By the way the UPS is the Just released APC BX1500M. Gonna do a review on it but gotta break out the Oscope, and meters to fully test. (need time) Thanks and have a great one
  2. Same Case I am using. :-) was very easy to work with and configure. currently only have 6 of my 10 HDDs in the racks. (Other 4 are still in use in an older ReadyNAs) When I planned my server build out, I knew I wanted 8-10 HDDs and 2 SSDs in a not so large unobtrusive case, That is exactly what this holds. From reading other postings it seems like many people are using this very case.
  3. Went to Micro Center and looked at their returned Items shelf and it was loaded with Corsair Power supplies and TP Link products, Did my homework on various power supplies and decided that the EVGA SuperNOVA 650 Watt P2 ATX 12V Power Supply fit my need perfectly. (plus it was on sale at the time for $89.00 USD) If it was not for the sale I probably would have picked up the Seasonic USA Platinum 660 Watts ATX Modular Power Supply, I am a very firm believer in that, high quality power supplies will prolong equipment life. I went low cost in a lot of my build but refused to do that with the power supply.
  4. Figured Id share as well. This is my Son building his first server ever. Here is the list of parts https://pcpartpicker.com/list/kRnpJV I can post some of the completed project pictures when I get back home if anyone is interested. I really just thought it was a cool father son build.
  5. Loving the HAL 9000 banner. Thx Joseph
  6. Top 3 Movie Characters 1. Darth Vader - If I have to say what movies, you should be shot. Best villain ever 2. Captain Kirk - Star Trek (any of them) Just that cocky attitude and respect for his crew is awesome. 3. E.T - First movie I every cried at.
  7. Good Afternoon Unraid Forum, I am very new to this whole new world of Unraid and even Linux for that matter, so please forgive me if I come across as a complete newbie as this is exactly what I am. I am looking to transfer files from the ReadyNas server to the New Unraid server without having to go through my laptop. Both of these servers are connected to the switch on my router, however my laptop is wireless. I have the community apps installed on the Unraid server and am looking to set a back up from the ReadyNas to the Unraid server. Is there an app that makes this simple within Unraid? and without having to transfer through the laptop? I have 9TB of info to move and was wondering if there are any recommendations you all can make to make this faster. Thank you all for your time and generosity.
  8. Agreed and they will price match online sales if you are in the store. Just know what you want prior to going there.
  9. IO Crest SI-PEX40062 4 Port SATA III PCIe 2.0 X2 Controller Card (35.00 bucks on Amazon) HGST Ultrastar 7K4000 HUS724030ALE641 (0F17731) 3TB 64MB Cache 7200RPM SATA III 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Internal Hard Drive (Certified Refurbished) (65.00 bucks on Amazon) So for $100 you can add 3TB or more to your setup

  11. Thanks Jonathan, I have installed the Community Apps. Guess I really just need to play with a lot of these and see what fits me best. Thank you for the extremely quick replies guys
  12. Fantastic, I just purchased the Plus myself. Information seems scattered all over the place though, between the Lime Tech Forum, Reddit, Github and so many others. My mind is swimming with the possibilities. I understand everyones wants and desires may be different as far as how they want to use their Unraid server. Would it possible to have a list of "recommended" apps for things like basic file transferring (Rsync), Home theater server (Kodi,Plex, Emby), Personal Clouds (Owncloud), and other essential apps that would make life easier and Unraid stand out above anyone else? Thanks in advance as I am almost positive this has been requested and probably posted more than once. Have a great day and I look forward to the replies.
  13. Wow, you were not kidding when you stated a premium price. Here is my build that I did with my son. This is a 30TB HDD Unraid box with 2 SSD Cache drives and it works without alterations, everything was plug and play. The pricing is close but not quite accurate as I purchased most of these items on sale. Ex. the case was around 50.00 when I purchaced. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/ShaneLovell/saved/MhXTwP
  14. Thanks Guys, I am a very new user to Unraid. My son and I built a 30tb server for the purpose of hosting a home media server. We still have and are using a Netgear NV+ v2 that I am looking to transfer all the data to the new Unraid box. Thanks for the invaluable information
  15. sorry, meant to say look through the community apps. greatly appreciate the link
  16. Thank you squid, I will look for the community apps.
  17. Just recently discovered Unraid, and decided it would be a fun father/son project to build a new server to replace an aging(and full) Readynas NV+. The parts list I chose are as follows. Asrock A88M-G/3.1 motherboard, AMD A10-7860K processor, 16GB DDR3 Ram, 240GB SSD, Fractal Node 804 case, EVGA P2 650 power supply, and 2 additional 3TB HDDs to add to my existing drives that currently occupy the Readynas. Please note that I built this as a function of cost and what was available at my local MicroCenter store. Total cost was under 600 with price matching, and that keeps my wife from griping to much as compared to other off the shelf products. My 16yo son built the new server and it works beautifully right outta the gate. (Im an older guy so I found that to be fasinating in its own right) I look forward to learning what Unraid 6 can do and am open to suggestions on how to set up, and what Docker Apps to install. I will say upfront to please forgive me for some questions I may ask on here, as I am not a network specialist nor a computer guru by any way shape or form. currently running the trial version with 27 days left, just so you get an idea of how new to Unraid I am. Thanks in advance guys and gals and I really do look forward to this new learning experience.
