I have precleard drives VIA USB before (did one last night). you dont need a plugin other than the preclear one. They just show up in preclear option but not the unassigned discs. WD makes 2 basic externals.. one with encryption and one without (essentials IIRC). The ones with are always the ones on sale. Guess i wont buy it. Don't really want to waste my time/money in case it cant be run with their weird encryption. I was just hoping i would catch somebody who had done it before. A "yes it works" or "no it does not" kinda thing I did look around google .. i did not see any way to remove.

My webgui came back after preclear finished the step it was on, I left it for a few hours then got the email on my phone that zeroing was done.. Now everything is fine and the cycle is complete. Weird but glad i didnt reboot heh Still be nice to know if you can check preclear status in ssh if it was started by the plugin.

Thanks, i will try it later when this disc is finished preclearing. Can't be sure but i think that is what caused it to fail somehow. Right after it failed to update my webgui locked up until preclear got to the next step. heh EDIT: Kinda strange.. Those orphans were gone when i went to remove them.. but sonnar seems to have reinstalled fine

I tried to update my docker today and it failed... Now i have this.. HALP? EDIT: All the settings appear to be still there in appdata .. Can i just remove those orphans and use CA's Previous Apps section to put sonarr back? I really dont want to have to set it all back up again

I guess it is still running... Be nice to be able to see the progress somehow though EDIT: Well Frig me.. Webgui is also now working *shrugs* lol

My webgui has crashed. Is there a way to see the status of a preclear started by the plugin VIA SSH? I was about 85% into zeroing the disc and would rather wait to reboot if it is still running properly.

It was about 85% into Step 2 of 5 - Zeroing the disk: I updated the sonnarr docker and it failed (First time ive ever had a docker update fail).. Ever since then the webgui is gonzo but everything works other than sonarr. Does typing diagnostics from the command line take a long time normally? Because it is.Just sitting there at starting diagnostics collection.. EDIT: is there a way to clean shutdown VIA SSH so i can avoid a parity check. And is shutting down safe to do while a preclear may or may not be running? EDIT: unRAID 6.3.2. preclear plugin was up to date so whatever that version is. 5TB disc. Options were all default set for 1 cycle. EDIT: I can see the preclear script running in htop but its not using any cpu. I tried screen -r and i dont think it is installed.

I can still SSH, browse shares, and use the dockers (like plex). Webui has been down for quite a while.. Not sure what to do. Is it possible to check how the preclear is doing VIA SSH if the preclear was started VIA the plugin?

*sigh* I have not bought it yet. IF i had i would have just tried it. I am looking at one on sale. Great price but i don't want to open the shell until preclear has cleared it at least twice.. Which is why i am here asking/wondering if preclear will even work...

i do not want to do WD tests. i want to PRECLEAR the dirve 2 or 3 times.

I just want to run preclear on the drive a few times BEFORE i take it out of the shell and put it into the case/array.. Voiding the warranty.

So, is the answer at least no to preclear working with the encryption working? I cannot find anything on how to disable it on a WDBBGB0060HBK-NESN

These drives have silly hardware encryption built in but i would much rather run preclear before i open it

I am not exactly worried about it hehe. But i have been moving a ton of data on and off this month. And will be for the coming months. One new disc that would fit all my stuff is $300 CAD. I don't see the the harm in letting it run for a couple hours a day... maybe even less. I just don't know how hehe

Option 2 would be pretty expensive since i'd have to buy enough TBs to hold the data while i format hehe.

I mostly use my unRAID box for storing blurays, music and tv shows. I recently decided to encode my blurays instead of storing huge full bit rate mkvs. I replaced a ton of them with encodes and then adjusted my encode settings (CRF19) and replaced again. I am still in the process of replacing many. I wasn't worried about fragmenting when i started using unRAID because most of what goes on it was gonna stay there. However, all of this replacing must be fragmenting my file system. I read this post .. And I am wondering if i should do it. Instead of running a huge two or three day defrag i like the idea of letting it run for an hour or two a day. Should i? And what would be the best way to automate it (ELI5 please lol) if so? Thanks

Decided to mess about with jumbo frames. Changed everything on my network other than my ISPs supplied modem/router combo thing (cant figure out how). Then, in unRAID, i stopped docker and typed 9000 into the Desired MTU box. Pressed apply and i haven't been able to use the WebGUI since.. any ideas? EDIT: I've changed everything back to the way it was (except unraid). Still cant access the WebGUI. I can log in with putty and also look at my shares VIA Windows (unreliably). EDIT: Came back up after a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong time lol. Seems to be working now.

Figured it out i think. used putty. The result is the same other than the time/date hehe No idea why its not hashing new stuff then All i did was re-install. Set those settings above. Build and export.. What did i do wrong?

I did a build after install. As shown in the pics above. It does not hash anything automatically. I get notifications to build / export manually. I also have no idea how one would do # ls -l /var/log/packages/inotify-tools-3.14-x86_64-1 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1418 Feb 16 23:00 /var/log/packages/inotify-tools-3.14-x86_64-1

How can we tell if inotifytools is installed? Also.. with my settings two posts above it no longer hashes anything automatically. I get notifications to build export manually. Can anyone help me get this working for good?

Is that the Build command? So, should i select all my disks and run build, then enable Automatically protect new and modified files after it is done? Do you recommend i do anything else? Sorry, this is all a bit confusing to me and i'd like to do it right this time EDIT: No more time to fiddle today. Hope i did it right hehe
