  1. I have now uploaded the plugin and it should appear in the next few hours in the CA App.

Please note that this plugin currently only supports Unraid version 6.11.5+ and you will only see it if you are at least on that version.

Here is the direct plugin link:

    https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ich777/unraid-r8152-driver/master/unraid-r8152.plg

ATTENTION: You have to reboot after you've installed the plugin because I really don't like messing with such critical drivers when the system is running, as a side note if you ever upgrade to a newer Unraid version you have to reboot again after the upgrade because the updated package is only pulled on reboot for the new Unraid Kernel version.

But if it makes the system stable I am happy.

But if this is the case then this has nothing to do with the iGPU transcoding...

Where is your transcoding temp directory located? Have you changed it to something else than default? Maybe this is the cause of the issue but it would be the first time I hear of that.

    I have just changed it.

It should be also good if you have it on Prefer as long as the Cache doesn't is filled up completely.

  3. @Tristankin & @muzo178 you can at least try to change the container to the official one and see if that males a difference, they should be all interchangeable and you only have to replace the Repository in the template.

But just to be sure create a backup from you plex directory in your appdata folder so in case that something goes wrong you can revert back <- but it shouldn‘t go anything wrong.

But I would need to turn off plex to isolate it correct?

You can disable transcoding in Plex or better speaking disable HW transcoding.

It happens randomly so I would need to turn off my plex service for a few days to test correct?

No, if your system is fast enough to keep up with software encoding for the time you test Jellyfin it would be fine.

Maybe test it intensely while playing a file over and over.

Ok, so need to keep the monitor plugged in and turned on till it crashes.

Exactly, then you can take a picture of that and maybe we can see more...

Are you both on the official Plex version?

Can you post your Diagnostics too @muzo178?

So if i issue that commend it will prevent sleep and show the last error on the screen so when I swap out the dummy plug for the monitor again I can grab a screenshot?

No, you have to connect a monitor, swapping out the dummy plug with a real monitor won't work in most cases because the EDID is not the same on the dummy plug as on the monitor and because your system crashed the driver can't initialize the new EDID, hope that makes somewhat sense to you.

I have about 50 users on my plex so I can't see a good way of switching over to jellyfin, that would be a last resort option.

But that is not the question, the question is if the same crashes happen on Jellyfin too...?

I have had years of stable operation with 6.8.3. Anything with the 5.x kernel freezes. Do you have VT-d enabled on your system? I am not the only one experiencing this problem so there is something causing an issue and after trying to find a solution for over a year I am still no closer. You can understand that is pretty frustrating right?

I just want to report my experience with it.

I have VT-d on one system disable and on the other it's enabled.

Please post your Diagnostics again from a 6.11.5 installation.

I can't remember but have you tried Jellyfin back then and if it's the same?

Are you also able to hook up a monitor to your system and issue this command from a Unraid console (this will prevent the monitor going to sleep):

    setterm --blank 0

With this you will be able to take a picture when the crash happens since most of the times the syslog server will not be able to record those issues.

    Another one today.

I have now the following Intel CPUs tested with Unraid 6.11.5:

    i3-6100T, i7-7700, i5-8400, i5-10600, J4105, i5-6300U and G4400T

Motherboards are Asrock, Asrock, Fujitsu Esprimo, ASUS, Fujitsu Futro, Fujitsu Laptop, Fujitsu Esprimo.

None of them crashed so far after about a month of uptime and continuous transcoding with Unmanic on Unraid.

Most of the systems don't have anything else installed than Intel-GPU-TOP and Unmanic.

yes I have a mixture of docker networks but it has never been a problem. What sort of problem does it cause in my current config?

Please change the Docker network to ipvlan.

macvlan is known to crash servers.

You have started using Frigate or am I wrong? Maybe that is causing crashes in combination with macvlan.

Please change it as described above and see if it crashes again.

I suspect because my old custom scripts for installing TPM support before unraid officially supports it but removing the script still no luck.

    5 hours ago, bkingsolver said:

I followed instructions in the forums to add TPM support before it was officially supported by unraid.

Did both of you follow the same guide? Can you please point me to the Guide(s) you where following?

I think your best bet would be to recreate your libvirt image and recreate your VM's afterwards with OVMF TPM.

So I think this issue is not directly related to Unraid 6.11.1 instead it is related to the custom script that you where following to get TPM working right?

Can someone explain to a layman what the GUC setting does?

I think the simplest way to describe it is here.

    Quote

The Graphics micro (µ) Controller (GuC) is designed to offload some of the functionality usually run on the host driver.  This functionality includes:
        - Authentication of the HEVC/H.265 micro (µ) Controller (HuC)

Enables use of HuC codec acceleration extensions by the iHD Intel media driver (described below).
        - Low level graphics context scheduling

GuC context scheduling operations will include determining which context to run next, submitting a context to a command streamer for a next available engine and pre-empting and resubmitting existing contexts as required. With the GuC selecting which context to submit and the actual engine instance to submit to, it is also responsible for detecting hangs and initiating engine resets.

Maybe also worth mentioning Kernel 5.18.2 and 5.18.3 in combination with Unraid works fine with Alder Lake and HW transcoding (currently Jellyfin tested), I think even Plex even fixed their custom version from FFmpeg that causes crashes with Alder Lake.

...please also note that this is not a Alder Lake Bug Thread!!!
