  1. Hey guys, I need help with my Sonarr configuration, I'm trying to automate the downloading of files from a remote server to my home. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what sonarr does? Current Setup Of Sonarr: In the sonarr webui => settings => download client I've used the details from my remote server which has the files I want to bring home, the test button at the bottom of the dialogue box says that it's working. Next I setup an indexer (I suspect that I may not need this as I don't need sonarr to send downloads to my remote server) and the test at the bottom of that dialogue says that it's also working correctly. With both of these setup I'm still not getting the desired files at home. If anyone can enlighten me as to whether or not sonarr will grab files from my remote server and bring them to the house and maybe point me to a guide I'd appreciate it. I've read through various forums and such but I must be missing something because it seems that it should do this unless the forum I'm reading is wrong. (Actually they mention mounting the remote server locally which I haven't figured out yet maybe that's my problem) I've considered using the syncthing docker instead but if I understand it correctly it syncs both ways and I don't want that because when I move/rename files I want the remote server to stay in its original state. Thank you for any insight, suggestions etc.
  2. Where do I access the Dynamix file browser, I've had to install Dolphin through docker to manage files, it works fine but it took some getting used to. EDIT: Okay I see the little icon on the main tab under view column, sorry still learning...
  3. I'd noticed that too but there doesn't seem to be any "admin" content or settings visible, unless the message itself is a private message area for admins.
  4. Actually I'd had a very nicely documented post with links and all last night but then I clicked one of the links to verify what I was writing and rather than opening in a new window it scrapped my well developed post If I remember correctly I was searching for ways to add an external drive and do the initial data load to the array that way, I'm not certain of the exact key words I used. once I get my stuff together and flying straight I may be able to determine exactly how I found it. As of now I've spent way more time than anticipated setting things up. I don't presume to know the LT marketing plan nor their target demographic, the idea of appealing to the mass market is simply an assumption on my part. If implemented thoroughly suspect that the need for support might actually diminish rather than grow. If it were truly error proofed then quality documentation would take care of many common problems. Just like Apple, engineer a highly capable, yet idiot proof product, and you've hit a grand slam. Frankly I feel like the product isn't that far from being idiot proof but if I've struggled with certain aspects then I'm certain that the "average joe" would have even more difficulty. Cleaner documentation without all of the "unofficial" vectors would likely make a big impact. After that, adding official support for a handful of essential plugins and dockers would just about do it IMO. The whole sifting through deprecated plugins was frustrating, I had a similar experience with preclear, it took me some time to figure out that the original by gfjardim was actually still good because it said (somewhere) that it had been abandoned. Now that I've found CA it's less of an issue but first impressions as they say... Anyway, my primary motivation was to provide an average joe's perspective to development "needs" but if the target demographic is in fact the semi-pro user then the team is right on track! As I said I expect to be a paying customer after the trial period.
  5. tl;dr >> if your target audience is the "mass market" ease of use and documentation may need to be prioritized higher than specialty fixes for semi-pro users. @jonp I want to preface this Op-ed by saying that my current feeling is that unRAID meets my needs and I will be purchasing after the trial. My opinion on this subject is more general and focuses on your "target demographic", is it semi-pro users or the mass market? From the perspective of a potential customer, if ipv6 sucks up heavily from other development resources it may not yet be an immediate need unless your target customer is the IT, semi-pro, user. (I'd assume, perhaps wrongly, that your target customer is the "mass market" with a generally lower technology quotient, to whom ease of use is priority #1) Most home users can't forward a port much less map out an entire small network. With that said, my skills are better than average yet nowhere near that of even a semi-pro. My experience with unRAID thus far suggests that, again IMO, resources might be better spent on further developing the UX through improved ease of use and documentation. My guess is that you lose a fair percentage of potential customers due to the scattered nature of documentation and lack of "officially supported" plugins. Between the wiki, the unofficial manual, the blog, various videos, and the copious forum threads there's a ton of contradictory information, as well as deprecated plugins that take a considerable amount of patience to sift through. As an example, one of the first things I'd found was the S.N.A.P. plugin and after much reading it led me to a newer S.N.A.P. v2 due to the original developer's lack of updates (which is currently my biggest concern about using unRAID). Once I finally decided to install it I found the CA plugin and so installed that first, but I couldn't figure out why SNAP wasn't available from CA. After yet more reading I found the thread labeled DEPRECATED (I wish that I'd found this first but unfortunately I didn't). Then that thread led to Unassigned Devices v1 which was again, deprecated due to lack of developer updates (I'm seeing a pattern here). That finally led me to Unassigned Devices v2 which I have installed, but wow, what a ride to find the latest and greatest plugin that provides, what is to me, critical functionality. Please don't take this as a critique, it's simply meant to demonstrate that if your target audience is the "mass market" ease of use and documentation may need to be prioritized higher than specialty fixes for semi-pro users. In the end I'd gladly pay twice the current asking price for something with: The current functionality of unRAID More officially supported plugins like dynamix, preclear, UD and several of the dockers Complete autonomy from proprietary hardware A similar UX with the same focus on ease of use that the big brand solutions offer As someone who wants their home server to be a tool, not a part-time job I want flexibility when I choose to tinker yet I don't want to be forced to tinker if I don't want to. Unfortunately, unRAID forces you tinker due to the quasi supported community plugins. As stated above my current feeling is that I will continue on and become a paying customer. However, my guess is that there are many people less technically minded than I am who try it and decide to go with a more all inclusive solution from one of the big brand providers. This is just my 2 cents as a less technical user who may better represent the "mass market" than the majority of semi-pro users currently on the forum. No disrespect to them by any means, from what I can tell they have provided invaluable development, supporting critical functionality, and they all deserve a raise . Maybe I'm way off base and your target market is in fact the semi-pro user, if so than simply ignore this post. Hopefully I haven't offended anyone as I look forward to becoming a contributing member of this community but I do feel like the subject of development prioritization might benefit from a more "average joe" perspective.
  6. How does rep work, I've noticed it seems very under utilized here. Guys with years of xp and thousands of posts have reps of 4 and 5. So far I've been giving it for the most helpful responses to my questions, and also to devs for their plugins. Then I wondered might it put me in the negative (since no one seems to be using it, I wonder if it costs me rep to give rep).
  7. D'oh! Good to know... Dolphin seems to be working very well for me and I need to understand dockers anyway so this was a good first try. This method of loading a clean array is the best I've found so far. I guess some might gripe about the lack of parity but the speed increase is definitely worth it for me, otherwise I would have been hundreds of hours doing the initial load. Anyway thanks again!
  8. Thank you Squid, Dolphin seems like a good option so far LOL, this is hilarious...The first thing I did after reading about mc on the forum was Google it and found next to nothing on their website as far as install instructions, after you posted I changed my search to include "how to install" and got this (below) which may have been of use if I were able read Greek ... "Getting started: Midnight Commander might already be installed on your distribution, but if it is not you can install it using your distribution’s package manager. For Fedora and CentOS, my distros of choice, I use YUM. This command installs Midnight Commander: yum -y install mc You can start Midnight Commander from the CLI with the mc command. The figure below shows Midnight Commander when run as root in a terminal emulator session." Needless to say I have zero experience with Linux and was therefore uncertain of how to proceed with the mc install, I thought that I'd read it could be run from windows but didn't see that on their main page. Anyway due to your recommendation it seemed that Dolphin was my next best option. I have to say, even that took me a while to install, (no experience with dockers, vm's and the like) there was no reference to the proper port and I suspect that the app path doesn't point to my cache as it should (I'll deal with that later I guess). I saw in the Dolphin setup page that they used 8080 as an example port but I thought I couldn't use that due to admin conflicts or something. Ultimately I did use 8080 and crossed my fingers, all seems well and speeds are as expected and certainly better than even USB 2.0 which is what I was hoping for.
  9. Hey guys, So far the process is taking about 4 hours for 14GB, there has to be a faster way to do the initial loading. I've since removed parity, installed the Unassigned devices plugin, added the source drive to tower and shared it. I still can't figure out how to move the data quickly, it's actually slower (significantly). I see in wiki "midnight commander" but have no idea how to use it, is there not an easy way to open the drives from the gui and copy/paste as I would in windows? Thanks!
  10. I remote into my home desktop, then access from browser
  11. OK, excellent information from both of you guys, I appreciate your insight. I was going to start loading data remotely but I'll wait until I get home and try out some of those cache settings and maybe another video or two before proceeding. Thanks again!
  12. Excellent instructions my friend, you're spot on! Here is what it says: Label: none uuid: d01a0de3-6845-4a04-8956-2f783ae69c33 Total devices 1 FS bytes used 2.46MiB devid 1 size 20.00GiB used 2.02GiB path /dev/loop0 I thought I'd read to add the cache and parity drives after filling the data drives because I'll be writing way more data than my cache will hold and the intial filling will go faster without them. I have watched several videos, at least one them was spaceinvader1's but I'll rewatch them. Hopefully I can reclaim the 20GB after adding the cache, if not I guess I'll add it before filling the drives.
  13. When I checked the disk I see the standard pre-populated shares of apps, iso etc but there is nothing in the folders. I have no idea what a docker image is yet, but it sounds like this is normal due to lack of cache so I'll begin filling the array and add parity and cache once finished. Thanks guys!
  14. I just initialized and formatted the array, disk 1 has significantly more "used" space when all disks should be relatively empty. Am I missing something because I would expect that the 4TB drive would be roughly double that of the 2TB drives? The disks were precleared then I added >> started >> and formatted all at once. 23GB isn't a huge deal but I wonder if this is indicative of something I've done wrong during setup or possibly a disk issue even though it passed preclear. Thanks.
  15. I was advised to look into the H310 just yesterday and I'm curious if what ashman70 told me might apply to you too? I'm assuming that when you bought the H310's you made sure you had the physical slots to support them and any incompatibility is in the firmware. ashman70's advice to me was "flashing the H310 firmware to Dell IT mode", might that make the card work for you? Honestly, I have no idea, I'm new to much of this but I thought I'd throw it out there since I was looking at that card just yesterday. Good luck....
  16. I've read in the forums that running preclear from screen is recommended due to potential loss of connection which may abort the process. I couldn't figure out nerd tools so I tested this premise by closing the browser after starting preclear. I came back to the gui about 20 minutes later and it was still running as expected. I will leave my remote computer on tonight just in case I'm missing something but it seems to me that I can start preclear then turn off my remote computer and the script will continue to run. Can anyone confirm that this is the case or is nerd tools working in the background somehow? I did install it and start screen, I just couldn't figure out how to initialize a terminal from the gui.
  17. Unfortunately I don't have the coin for a new build right now, just dropped roughly $440 on (4) New WD Red drives (2) 4TB and (2) 2TB. I was however able to get the 4TB drive recognized by the UnRaid OS. I'm not sure what fixed it as I am tired and changed several things at once (which I know better than to do). It was either a Bios setting or the fact that the drive was not initialized / no file system. I suspect it was bios but now the machine will not auto boot UnRaid after power down, I have to press F1 at the prompt, hopefully I can fix that. After reinstalling the drive I borrowed the sata power from the DVD slot then used a separate data cable to connect directly to mobo. While this is good, I still need to find a solution for getting power to the other drives without using the SAS6ir harness. I'm assuming that the harness only carries data to the controller and not power, if I can confirm that I will consider cutting the data portion of the plug away...we'll see what my research leads me to on this. I feel like I'm well under way and should be able to add the 4TB drive as cache after preclear works its magic. *** EDITED 1/28/2020 ( just in case anyone is trying to do the same thing ) *** I've recently removed the Dell SAS6ir card freeing up both the P3 and P4 power connectors. I then added the Dell X236G cable which when connected to the P3 (I think it would work on P4 as well) powers 4HDD with separate sata/data cables that go straight to the Mobo. I then utilized the DVD power as before for two additional drives going straight to the Mobo. I then added a $17 sata card where the SAS6ir was so that I could plug in my SSD cache which is powered off the DVD power with a splitter. I now have 14TB across 7 disks with two Xeon X5675 processors @3.07GHz. If I wanted to, I believe that I could safely add a second Dell X236G cable to the P4 plug giving me 4 more drives but I'd need something like an Icy Dock 2 bay to 3 bay converter to actually get them in to the case, and an additional sata card. I don't really see the need though...
  18. Thank you ashman70, This has definitely got me going in the right direction! I've been fussing with this all day without success. The mobo has sata plugs but the power harness doesn't have the typical sata power supply plugs. There are (2) 2x2 (4pin) plug heads labeled P3 and P4. These are connected to (2) harnesses that provide both power and data connection for (4) drives each and go directly to the SAS6ir controller. Since they incorporate the data part of the plug I can't use them for power and provide separate data cables to the mobo. I attempted to borrow the sata power from the dvd drive and connect the sata data cable directly to the mobo but the drive wasn't recognized at all. I'm giving up for now, since the sata card that I linked to doesn't supply power I may have no other option but to try the H310 you'd mentioned. I'll fuss with the current setup for a few more days to see if I can come up with a solution. I suspect the dvd sata may not supply enough power? I've searched for a 4 pin to multi sata harness but haven't seen one yet. Anyway, thank you again, I'll report back if I can figure something out.
  19. Hello all, I've been reading through the forums for several days now and have started putting my rig together. Unfortunately it seems that it will only recognize drives that are <2TB. Although I'm not technologically challenged, I'm not familiar with servers at all, even the boot-up seems foreign to me. I think I've narrowed my problem down to the SAS6ir Raid controller but that's only a guess. I've read through all of the Dell manuals (user+tech) to no avail. My question is this, can I add a PCIe sata controller like this one from newegg and have the MoBo recognize drives that are >2TB? I've barely started and I've already made a bit of a mess of things by having (2) 4TB drives that I may not be able to use. If there is any way to get the larger drives in service I'd like to try because using 6 drives that are <2TB will leave me too short on HDD space. I appreciate any insight on my proposed solution as well as any alternatives that may be available.
