  1. FWIW it wouldn't be a horrible idea to use the M/B Limetech is using if you can afford it. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=33166.msg305203
  2. Was only just recently running happy with 4GB in bare unraid 6 with plex as my only plugin and no cache-dir. I bumped it to 8GB of ECC to start playing with Xen.
  3. The process makes a copy of /proc/mdcmd which from every indication of my current parity speeds of 161.9 MB/sec @ 150GB isn't being affected in the slightest. Though I could run another parity check after the current run but without the monitor and compare it to see. hmmm can't argue with that Looking forward to your results.
  4. 15 seconds is pretty frequent and may very well negatively impact your results. I'd say every minute at the most. I'd suggest taking a best guess, given your typical parity-check time, at how often you should check to get a data point every 5%. So for me with a 6 or 7 hour check time I'd set it at about every 20 minutes. Go crazy at 10 minutes for about every 2.5%
  5. Wil do, thanks... i really want to put my vm's on my cache instead of the array. i don't care if they get lost in a failure event. your thoughts? Of course the easy way to avoid loss in a cache failure event ... periodic snapshots copied to the array.
  6. Just chipping in on an old message... Re: OpenSSH installing openssl-solibs. I can assure you openssh_overbyrn.plg does NOT install solibs or any SSL package. Just OpenSSH. Can't speak for alternative methods (unmenu?) of installing SSH. overbyrn, thanks for checking in on this. I also see that you sent me a PM on the same topic re: the github post I made. So I do see now that you are right especially after reading your change log for all the versions of openSSH. I saw a specific mention of removing dependency on openSSL and playing well with the likes of SF. The problem I think I had was that I did indeed have an old version of openSSL 0.9.x on my flash and loading as well as openSSL 1.x. I can't back this up, but I think it was a remnant of an older version of openSSH. I'm basing that on your mention of removing the dependency in the change log ;-) In any case, to close it out with you, and clue anyone else in, once I removed the openSSL 0.9.x package the webserver started working and openSSH continued to work as expected. The only thing left on my system was indeed openSSL 1.x which was installed by the webserver. Thanks, Alex
  7. SUCCESS!!! Well except now i need to install SOAP?!?!?! Time to blo;w off this frustration on the soccer field.
  8. Mod: can you please move this thread to the Support|Virtualization section. Thanks
  9. Q: Does the SF webserver actually say it is running? A: The icon showed up in the Settings tab, I told it where my web root directory was, set port to 8084, and enabled it. I did not turn on php error logging which might have given me some clues, but I got annoyed and start my win-7 install. Which went well after a fashion and I now have a Fedora 20 VM (woot!). Gonna try CentOS next and then start banging around trying to break it, errr learn how it all works ;-) I really need to learn more about LMV. I also probably need a bigger SSD Q: Did you modify the plugin to load the correct sqlite package? (See here.) A: I did not. I had no idea. I will look at that link and get cracking. Q: What other plugins do you have running? Please check that there is none that installs the older openssl package version 0.9.x. You need openssl-solibs-1.0.1c-i486-3.txz. A: unMenu, plex, screen, apcupsd, openSSH, bpmon (or whatever it is called), and maybe one or two other unMenu packages, but the important one I'm sure then is openSSH because it does in fact install openSSL. I will check to see what version I have. It has an update feature I haven't checked in a while so it might even be ready to install 1.0.1c if it hasn't already. Thanks for your help.
  10. thanks i appreciate it. So right now I'm in the middle of building a fedora VM from the ISO on my win7-host, while doing a handbrake transcode ... its ummm.... slow haha but showing me how robust it all is. As for unRaid I removed the lighttpd and php packages from unmenu and then installed SF-Core and SF-Webserver only. My understanding is that installs lighttpd (i can clearly see it does) and php together, but I'm clearly having problems on that last bit.
  11. I believe the answer is yes. I put the files in /mnt/appdisk/lighttpd/phpvirtualbox-4.3-0 and then put that same path into the webserver gui. Based on your screen shot it is clear that my webserver is not actually running because i never see the button change to "stop" I think it is my php config. Heck to be honest i can't even be 100% sure it is running no less configured right. You can't use the search term "php" on this forum, you get way too many hits from random scripts and urls etc I'm done mucking about with it tonight though and might not touch it again till the weekend. I'll have to think on it. I might just change to installing VB onto my win7 machine. My only purpose for even doing it is to learn and test and it doesn't have to be on my unraid box for me to learn the intricacies of using VB.
  12. SlrG, care to eloborate or help navigate? So tried throwing in SF and SF Webserver and I pretty much have the exact same result.
  13. Yeah I'm just not inclined to install Simple Features Base in order to get SF webserver. Too many problems in the past so now I'm afraid of the fire ;-) However you are surely right about php not being installed. I was not aware that I needed that as well. I'm pretty sure php is available via unmenu and I will take a run at it tonight. Thank you very much. FWIW, that detail should probably be part of the instructions even if it is something along the lines of, "install SF web server to get lighttpd and php installed, otherwise you will have to install each yourself." I'm also planning to update my main post as I go along with these little gems as well my attempts to run a CentOS-VM with PMS, utorrent, and handbrake, as well as a Win7-VM that will be a clone of my PC (fingers crossed on that one haha). All as a way to get ready for the future of UnRaid-NG or whatever Ironicbadger ends up calling it
  14. A few notes along the way as I try to do this: Virtualbox Extensions: while the instructions here say they are included, your instructions here ==> http://vbox.a1aina.com/install.php say they need to be downloaded. I missed the clue in the OP and then got confused when i looked at your a1aina page, all coupled with the fact that my UnRaid gui showed it was install all conspired to make me confused lighttpd: AFAIK Simplefeatures is not an option for 5.0 so I went the unmenu route. I had to dig around to figure out how to configure and actually start lighttpd. I did figure it out though so for posterity and to save other's time (assuming I did in fact do it right) once you install via unmenu, you have to: -- copy the default config from here /usr/doc/lighttpd-1.4.19/lighttpd.conf to somewhere on your flashdrive. I choose /boot/packages because that is where the rest of lighttpd is installed by unmenu -- then make the following changes server.document-root = "/mnt/appdisk/lighttpd/virtualbox" <==== this needs to be a location you created. server.port = 8084 <==== I only choose this because theone did dir-listing.activate = "enable" <==== to be honest I can't validate this but that is the info I found in UnRaid forums I made no other changes to lighttpd.conf The command to start lighttpd is: /usr/sbin/lighttpd start -f /boot/packages/lighttpd.conf which you should copy to your GO script phpVirtualbox: has moved from http://code.google.com/p/phpvirtualbox/ to http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpvirtualbox/files/?source=navbar I grabbed version 4.3.0 of phpVirtualBox. The only changes I made was to rename config.php-example to config.php aqnd nothing else. [shadow=red,left][glow=red,2,300] And now we get to my problem. [/glow][/shadow] I can't seem to get the web server running. I click on the Start Vboxwebsrv button and I see /etc/rc.d/rc.virtualbox start_vboxwebsrv /opt/VirtualBox/VBoxManage setproperty websrvauthlibrary null vboxwebsrv service started But when I go to tower:8084 and click on the folder I put phpVirtualBox in, "phpvirtualbox-4.3-0" all I see is an empty page (attached). I believe lighttpd is installed correctly because it is serving up the directory of /mnt/appdisk/virtualbox and I can see the "phpvirtualbox-4.3-0" folder. When I click on that, and get the blank page, the browser tab is named "phpVirtualBox" so I've done something at least partly right re: copying the phpVirtualBox files from the zip i downloaded. I've also attached a copy of my webgui page and syslog. For completness the location I set for the logfile does exist and I typed it correctly (compare to my screen shot): root@Tower:~# cd /mnt/appdisk/virtualbox/ root@Tower:/mnt/appdisk/virtualbox# but there are no files in there. The location for the symbolic link: root@Tower:/mnt/appdisk/virtualbox# cd /mnt/appdisk/vbox root@Tower:/mnt/appdisk/vbox# similarly exists and there are indeed files in there. Any help is greatly appreciated. syslog-2013-12-17.zip
  15. And so it begins muwahahahaha Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
  16. The "whatever reason" reason becomes clear by looking in "unraid.c": A stripe is (stripe_head + (num_disks * PAGE_SIZE)) bytes long. In the current version, the size of structure stripe_head is 2640 bytes. Memory used for all stripes [in KB] is: memory = md_num_stripes * (sizeof(struct stripe_head) + (conf->num_disks * PAGE_SIZE)) / 1024; ...where: conf->num_disks = sb->num_disks; From Bash you could: root@Tower:~# eval $(/root/mdcmd status | grep sbNumDisks) root@Tower:~# echo $sbNumDisks 4 For me it's 4. On your system, that will give 19.
  17. Just as a heads up (sorry if you already know this) but while there are no spin-up delays on read, there sure will be on writes AND your writes will be limited to either cache or parity spinner speeds (i.e. slow for small random I/O). Q: Is that data so important that it needs to be inside the array? If not, why not mount the SSD outside the array (I've done that, it is easy) for fast reads and writes without any need to spin up parity. If it is that important, I'd say you could still put the SSD outside the array, and then you can rsync the data into the array on a nightly basis just like the mover script. Just a thought. Now back on topic.
  18. hmmm so if I understand right he has pulled your code, it shows as merged? but he is planning to make some more changes before publishing for download?
  19. FWIW, if your MB will support hotswap, then nothing stops you from stopping the array, installing the drive, creating the mount and assigning the drive to it and then restarting the array. to make the mount permanent add the same CLI lines to your GO file. I did not do it as a hot install, but mounting a non-array drive (an SSD for Plex server app in my case) is pretty easy. 20. I'm guessing it is because Stats is a Simple Features function and Simple Features does not work with the new GUI.
  21. Wow this looks like a very nice ITX case with room for 6 drives. Not sure you could get much smaller and still fit this many drives in and have enough airlofw to keep it all cool. http://www.nikktech.com/main/articles/pc-hardware/1151-bitfenix-prodigy-mini-itx-pc-case?showall=&limitstart=
  22. Well no one likes to be a hardass but there are two simple steps to solve this: 1) delete or at least freeze bug report threads that do not include a system log 2) delete or at least freeze bug report threads with system logs showing evidence of any add-ons That said, it is possible for an add-on to expose a problem in the base system because it is hitting an edge condition sooner / more frequently than without it. But I would still agree that initial bug reports need to show evidence sans add-on with the mention that it was "first noticed" while an add-on was used so as to aid in trouble shooting (i.e. it does X once in a blue moon stock, but it does X every 5 min when running add-on Y)
