  1. @Squid, @trurl, @CHBMB wow..... On behalf of the less vocal in this community who rarely have anything to give you guys but our problems, I just wanted to say thanks. Sincerely, thank you guys for the time you give in helping others. Even when you get BS in return for your generosity, you continue to contribute massively to the community. You are appreciated!
  2. I am looking for a cage that can be mounted to the bottom of my Fractal Define R5 case. I want something that will hold 3-4 HDD in a vertical position. It doesn't have to be fancy, just solid. The problem is, I want one that will mount to the case, but also have a space on the bottom to fit a 120-140mm fan so air can be brought in from the bottom of the case, through the drives. I would also like it to be mostly open on the sides so the air coming from the front of the case though those HDD doesn't hit a wall. Hard to describe, but it looks like someone on here actually used pretty much the identical thing I am looking for being used pretty much how I am going to use it: He was using a caselabs cage, which is apparently impossible to find now. I think they went out of business? Even amazon has a link for it: https://uedata.amazon.com/CaseLabs-Standard-Double-MAGNUM-120mm/dp/B01BFNVFFE but it is unavailable. Any suggestions on something similiar? Thanks
  3. But this does not prevent anything from being written to the disk correct? Is there anyway to make a disk read only after it reaches a certain capacity? noncorrecting? Why is that preferred over a correcting? Just for the sake of speed, or does one cause more strain on the system? And if it is noncorrecting monthly, do you then only run a correcting one if there are errors? I have seen the setting to schedule trim, didn't know it was from a plugin I have. Thought it was baked into the OS. But either way, you are saying you shouldn't use SSD as a data drive or a parity drive correct? That I know, but I am using dual SSD as cache. So these are fine to trim correct? And if so, how often does that run? Sorry if that's dumb, I don't really understand trim. But I saw in a video that it should be setup, and there was no other info on it.
  4. No, it is writing to individual shares (media, pictures, isos, etc), but thought it would be nice to set a minimum for the disk so that i don't have to go into each individual share for the same setting if I want there to be the same amount left over for each. I have 10x 6tb HDD. I would like to leave 200GB free on each drive minimum, regardless of the share that is writing.
  5. Ok, I am sure I am just overlooking this setting, but I can't seem to find a place to set the minimum free space for a disk in my array. I can see when I am setting up shares I can set this, but is there not on overriding place to setup how much free space I want left on each disk at the disk level not the share level? Also, is there somewhere I can find a one stop shop for the recommended general housekeeping settings for a home server? What I mean is, a post where it has listed suggestions on how often to set parity checks, trimm, mover, and what notifications to set up for what scenarios? Kinda new to all of this, but loving unraid so far. Finally, I have a tiny little chromebook (11" i think) that I use most of the time. When I access my server, it the display does not fit to the dimensions of my screen forcing me to have to scroll right all the time to see things like how full a drive is, or get to the clickable folder icon for a share. The banner is fit to the screen, but the rest of it isnt. I have tried several settings, and they do not seem to do anything for this issue. This was not an issue I remember having before upgrading. Any suggestions? Thanks
  6. Just in case anyone reads this and was curious, I deleted the video previews I already had and stopped if from making new ones and I went from 60% used space to 10% on my 500gb cache. It is significant...
  7. I do kind of like the thumbnails while fast forwarding, but I think I could probably live without them. Any idea how much room they actually use up? Also, is there a way to go through and delete the ones I currently have? Last time I looked through the folders on the cache for plex, there was no real way of telling what was where and there were tons of folders.
  8. So, my current setup has two 500gb SSD running in the standard mirrored raid1. This was working just fine to start, but now it is not allowing me enough space as Plex has ate most of the cache. Of the 500gb of space I have available, almost 60% is used up even when I have no active downloads. So as soon as radarr or sonarr download a couple things, I start getting the warnings that my cache is filling. I had read that I can switch to a raid0, but have not found exactly how to do this. Plus, the article I read says it will automatically revert back to raid1 after a restart. Not sure if that has been fixed or not. So now I see 2 different options. 1. Switch to a raid0, and have no protection against data loss. I don't care about losing my most recent downloads, but don't really want to lose the Plex info and have to redownload all of that. Also, I don't want to lose the docker backups. 2. I could purchase 2 new SSD of 1tb or larger, and swap them in. What do you guys think is my best option. And if it is running raid0, is there instructions somewhere on how to do it correctly?
  9. I'm sure this is normal, and it is covered somewhere, but I can't seem to find the info. I am wondering why there is such a large difference in size when files are transferred from my cache to my array? For example: I use sonarr to pick out a season of a TV show and it sends it to deluge Deluge shows 51Gb for the torrent which is how much (I think) is added to the cache.... the more I think about this, I don't know that I have ever checked to see how large they are on the cache.... Sonarr goes back through and moves these files to the season folder for said show, but in that folder it shows a total of 56Gb. The only thing sonarr did, as far as I know, is move and rename the file. So why the big difference? Especially if it is not including all the "extra" files in the torrent and just the episode files? I'm sure there is a simple, dumb reason I am overlooking here. Thanks!
  10. I am fairly new to this whole UnRaid world as well. But just from what I have seen/read, it would probably be easiest if you ran a windows VM on UnRaid which is completely doable. And fairly easy. Will probably come down to what CPU your running though.
  11. thank you for the suggestions, but I think I have figured it out. I am pretty sure something reset when I swapped out the modem and I was being choked. Even though I had built up a large seed ratio, I think that went away with the switch some how. And as I had no completed downloads, it didn't have anything to seed from. I set it up to seed for an entire day, and my speeds have returned although they still fluctuate. but I am at least able to see 12 MiB/s at times now.
  12. I got into the advanced settings on the modem, but there is nothing listed about upnp. Also, nothing seem configurable on it anyway. So even if I could find it, it doesn't look like I could change it. As for port forwarding, I was under the impression from talking to others in the Delugevpn thread that it is not necessary to set up. It is supposed to be handled by just inputting the right file for one of the servers that allows port forwarding, which I have done with the Netherlands. Like I said, everything was working well before swapping out the modem, and I was getting very good speeds. I have tried different levels of connections allowed, none of it seems to make a difference. I have even tweaked the active DL levels. Whether I have 1 active or 50, it just seems to max out at 2 MiB/s. I have tried to see if it was just bad torrents, and added just the Ubuntu torrent, still the same results. Previously when I did this, I would be able to sustain 6+ MiB/s. I just can't seem to get a handle on what has changed. Like I said, no settings are different. Only swapped and activated the cable modem. If I do need to set up port forwarding (which would seem weird since I did not need to before), what port would I use as the default port for deluge?
  13. No idea how to do this. Could you give me a quick walk through?
  14. Ok, basic info first. Running Binhex's deluge vpn. The only change I have made is swapping out my cable modem. Previously I had an arris sb6121, which was only 4x4 U/D bonding channels. I upgraded from the 60 Mbps service to the 100 Mbps service through charter (spectrum). I now have the arris tm1602. The modem was swapped out, and I verified that I was actually getting 122 Mbps download with speedtest on a laptop connected directly to the modem. I then put the modem through my router, and I was still even able to get 120 via wifi on my phone. The problem is, my total download speed in deluge prior to this would fluctuate between 5-10 MiB/s. Now it seems to only want to go up to 2-3 MiB/s. I have tried resetting everything to no avail. I am at a loss as to why a faster connection would give me slower downloads. Any suggestions or things to try would be appreciated!
  15. As I am retro fitting the house, and would prefer not to open the walls for the entire run, is it possible to leave these free hanging? I would attach them to the stud near where the outlet will be. I am assuming this is generally frowned upon? My house is 2 story + basement, and it is looking more and more like I will be setting all this up to terminate in the basement. I was leaning towards cat6 just to add a bit of "future proofing", so I do not have to re-do this in the future if I decide to upgrade for the next big thing. Judging by the reviews, the crimper is pretty crappy in that kit. I will probably get something a little better reviewed. Besides, I can't imagine it would be that much more expensive to get higher quality tools. I am just starting to look into this, but I think I will do some kind of wall mounted rack setup. Since it will possibly be in the basement, I do not want it on the floor and would prefer a bit of clearance below it. I may have to get some kind of shelf too for the server itself. Should have just went with a rack server when I was building, but I ended up with a tower case (Define R5).
  16. I live in the US. I had heard that Honeywell genesis was good, but I don't know anything about it. Thank you for this info about solid core vs. stranded core. Until you said this, I didn't even know there were 2 different kinds. But, no knowing there is different kinds, wouldn't you get better connections with solid core for both uses? I am assuming the only real downside would be that the solid core allows for less flex in the cable? Edit: I found this and it seems well reviewed and is ok in price: https://www.amazon.com/1000ft-Ethernet-Unshielded-Twisted-trueCABLE/dp/B01JAVL5OE/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1519254786&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=truecable+cat6+riser&psc=1
  17. I was under the impression that the network would only operate at the speed of the slowest connection to it, so it was advisable to only put gigabit connections on it to maintain that speed. Your saying that is not correct? I would only "need" between 4-8, but I figure more is better and would rather not need one down the line and not have it. So I am looking at doing 4 in each bedroom (3 bedrooms), 4-8 in the living room, and 4-8 in the dining room. So a possibility of 20-28. Good idea on the patch panel. Never even considered that. It will definitely make for a cleaner install! Thanks for the suggestion. I will definitely pick one up. That could save a huge headache in the long run! I had never even heard of a punch down tool before, so that was a great suggestion! Does anyone have a suggestion on brands of cabling I should look to for better quality, or ones to avoid? Or what switches are better or worse? I am sure the connecters are pretty standard. Thank you all for the help! I love this community! You have all made this a great learning experience for me as I figure all this stuff out.
  18. I am not sure if this is something I can post here or not, but I was hoping for some help and everyone on here seems to be very knowledgeable and willing to help. I am completely lost when it comes to networking. I am looking to setup a LAN in my house. There are no Ethernet cables at all at the moment, and will be starting from scratch. Here is my main goals. 1. Setup a LAN to hardwire all of my plex clients and my server to reduce the load on my wifi (preferably gigabit). There will be the server and at least 4 clients, possibly adding on other things but only gigabit devices. As I understand it, every device has to be gigabit ready or it will drag down the whole network. 2. Possibly setting up a second LAN just for my non-gigabit devices (xbox 360, old computer, printer, etc.) 3. I would like to have the ability to plug in multiple laptops and have old-school LAN parties, but I do not want this to drag down my "plex network". I currently have just one router (asus rt-u68), no switches, and no Ethernet cabling. What do I need to purchase to make at least #1 happen? (I am assuming just an unmanaged gigabit switch) Any suggestion on cabling to get? I know I need at least cat5e, but is there any reason to/not to step up to cat6, cat6a, cat7? What would it take to do #2 and #3 above, or is this possible? Again, I know this is not UnRaid specific and appreaciate any help you guys can offer.
  19. I completely agree, and was not advocating for no cache at all. Just trying to see the point of using a dual cache setup. As it stands, I feel like I would be better served using just 1x 500gb SSD and keeping the second as a spare. Or, possibly running them together to have 1Tb of cache space. I feel like maybe I am using it wrong, or its potential is not being utilized....
  20. So, obviously this is meant just in this specific scenario. But if I have my UnRaid server setup only as a media server, is there any point to having a dual cache? If sonarr and radarr move everything to the array after they finish downloading, and everything that isn't moved at that time is backed up to the array when mover runs, I am struggling to see the point in having a mirror image of the things on the cache. I know all the app data is on there, but that should be backed up to the array as well. So if something was to happen, I would probably only have to replace all the incomplete downloads, which I probably would have had to do anyway. I only ask because it seems like a waste to me at this point. I have 2 500gb drives set up as my cache. Also, it seem kind of silly to have a cache in the first place when used like this. Correct me if I am wrong, please, but I download directly to the cache which is supposed to be faster. But then, almost immediately, sonarr or radarr takes the data and writes it to the array. I realize this is faster than just writing directly to the array, but is it really that much faster when you consider the extra steps? When I first set this up, I was under the impression (not really sure why I thought this), that everything would download to the cache and then when mover ran things would be moved to the array. I kind of confused mover with the moving and renaming that sonarr and radarr do. It would seem to me that if you did not need the media the very moment it was downloaded, you should be able to set up sonarr and radarr to not move until a convenient time, like mover does. This would save on system resources. I could be completely wrong on this whole thing. I am still new to this all.
  21. Yes, it is a torrent. so the seed ratio makes sense (although, i don't really understand seed ratios yet). In screenshot 3 and 4 above, it states that both files (original and renamed) are both on disk 2. That is what is making me think that it is not on the cache. Sometimes it says it is on the cache, and an array disk. Why would it be on both? Shouldn't it sit on cache until 3:30 am, and then mover take it from cache to the array? The Download share is set to use cache, but the Media share is not. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I am using radarr currently to upgrade movie files I already have on the array. I previously had small 800mb yify DL, due to using them from an external HDD. But since I built the server, I am upgrading. So the original small file, is already on the array.
  22. Ok, so I am definitely still doing something wrong here. I turned hard links off, but everything still looks the same. It still is making a copy, renaming it, but leaving the original until I delete it. It is also leaving it on the deluge list after finishing downloading. On top of that, I am not sure what the point of a cache drive is. I thought it was supposed to DL to my cache, then have mover put it where it is supposed to go in the middle of the night. Instead, it seem as though it is renaming and moving it immediately, and also moving the original to the same disk? Am I just reading this wrong?
  23. Will that remove the hard links that are already there from previous downloads, or will I have to go manually to the share mnt/downloads/completed and just delete everything there? My settings currently in download client are the same as the pic above, except I have completed download handling "remove" set to yes. And for media management I have rename folders, and hard links set to yes. All others set to no from the picture above.
  24. Ok, So now I think what is really happening is that it is creating hardlinks with the files original name. Here is what I am seeing: As you can see, in my media share everything is renamed correctly and placed in the correct place. But in my downloads share, it still remains with the downloaded torrent name. Both say they are on disk 2. Both are the "same size". my understanding is that they both point to the same file, but only use up the stated 14Gb once. The issue comes in that I want to clean up the download folder. How do I get rid of these? Can I just delete them? If so, how to I do this? Is it as simple as navigating to mnt/download/completed and deleting everything in there or will this mess something else up? Also, do I change the option from hardlink to copy, and then just manually delete the second copy periodically? I originally left this option on because it said it may not be able to move/rename if it wasn't on. Which would create a different problem....
  25. Wonderful. I will check it when I get home. Thanks again!
