Hello. So I had a good long month of no crashes and unsure if I did anything other than update some dockers but it's crashing every day. Crashing as I know it, I cannot access it via the url nor my VMs. last crash I checked my log and last thing was the spin down of disks. So I disabled spin down and it crashed while I was out.... I was given some slow 4gb ddr3 ram. I currently am using 16GB (2x8gb) ddr3 ram (this was my old gaming computer, don't remember the speed, but likely better than the 4gb modules I got for free). Current Idle use as I look is 25%. Is more ram worth it? or 16GB would be more stable/faster. 2nd Question. Currently without a graphics card installed, as I was using the 2500k without any passthrough. is it worth putting something old inside? I think I have a 4300 or a 7450 or a 8800 gt 512 Last Question... Is it possible to run a windows VM without an additional graphics card? and view the vm through a web browser (like remote desktop or something better...

Hello. I was wondering, if it's possible to setup a Guest AP using a ethernet card connected to my UNRAID and then a Access Point to the ethernet port. I want it not connected to my network. I was thinking of making that a VPN as well. I 'could' do something similar in my router... but it doesn't seem to be working as I still seem to be able to access files within my network.

Tried again.. Just to see if I count stop the array and put the cache again but didn't work. Same issue I attached the diagnostic though. Restoring to 6.8.3 for now. tower-diagnostics-20210315-2337.zip

So I decided to update from 6.8.3 and when I update my cache drive shows Unmountable disk present: Cache - Drive Name My docker is not loading which I assume is from that. It was running fine before the update. (mostly) For some reason uget/jdownloader wouldn't load properly kept saying service disconnected. Everything else worked though. I restored it to 6.8.3 and had to remount my cache drive it was removed to 'unassigned disks' after the downgrade. After I put it back, everything works as is, but am still in 6.8.3. I am using btrfs for the cache is that makes a difference. Oh and it asks me to format if I want to use it... (in 6.9.1) I don't have a log file but can try and reinstall if that is needed...

I just noticed that my torrents are slowed down for some reason. Is anyone using PIA and getting their download speed throttled? It seems I am limited to 600KBps-1MBps. Usually it hovers around 600KBps. Any additional torrent I add will lower the torrent speed so the total speed is only ~600KBps. I tested my download speeds without VPN on and it goes to about 25+MBps. If I pause and turn on ' forced proxy' (with none selected) it goes at normal speeds (25MBps+) ... which I think might be bypassing the VPN. If I turn on proxy and use sock5. It goes to the 600KBps speed... I also tested this in Windows Used PIA desktop APP and then used deluge for windows to download a torrent and with the VPN on I got ~600KBps and with it off I got 25MBps+. NO Settings were changed for the windows deluge (all were default) Anyone having this issue? It seems like a PIA thing... Not sure...

Okay so I've copied over pictures from my DLINK NAS to my unraid server and noticed that several pictures are being damaged. Such as pictures missing the bottom portion or stripes of faded color and such. Anyone know the reasoning? I thought maybe I copied it wrong the first time or something so I did it again... and still the same problem (different pictures of course). The NAS pictures are perfectly fine, no errors. First way I used was windows transferring. Second way I used was mounting the NAS on the unraid and using the cp from unraid terminal to copy the files over. Not all pictures are affected but a portion are. If I find an error I can copy it over from the NAS and it will be fine. But I don't want to go through every picture to check if it is fine...

Issue: I'm looking to buy and shuck some 8tb drives to add to my current system. I currently have 1x4tb (parity),1x4tb and 2x2tb. I bought a 500gb SSD too and am trying to figure out how to install it as a cache drive in a preset up system.... Do I have to manually go to each folder I guess to enable cache (if needed) and re-setup my dockers? Steps for this I assume is: 1. plug it in and preclear (do I need to do this?) 2. set as cache drive 3. configure folders to use cache 4. configure dockers to use cache drive. I haven't bought the 8tb drives yet, but from what I've read in the bunch of threads is that I should test them extensively before shucking and then preclear them... Then I have read that preclear is not necessary anymore... So I'm not sure what information is correct. And if preclear is necessary, I couldn't find it while I was setting up my Unraid a couple months back. Process from what I found is 1. Do extensive tests on drives (what tools would be good for this?) 2. Shuck drives and preclear (or can i preclear during the 'extensive test phase') 3. Plug in New Hard Drive and set it as a parity drive. Let the parity complete. 4. Take 4tb parity drive off parity and format it as another drive. 5. Plug in 2nd 8tb Drive and format it into the unraid system. I think thats all the steps... Thanks in Advance. Edit: Also.... if I have a cache drive... Would a q6600 or e8400 work for a plex server? or should i just leave it at the e2180

So I'm trying to reuse as much parts as I can. I'm attempting to switch my current motherboard which has an integrated graphics card to one without one. My understanding is that unraid needs a video card of some sort, so I am planning to get a pci card as the mobo has limited slots (1x PCIe x1, 1x PCIe x16, 3 PCI slots). I'm planning on using the pciex16 for my hba card. I'm planning on upgrading from a e2180 to a q6600 as I would like to use some simple VMs or maybe something like plex if it possible. Will a PCI card work with VM or does it need to be something more powerful?

Well as I said I checked if the NIC is the issue and in windows 7, it isn't (I get 80-90MB/s). Unless the NIC doesnt work well in Linux. The internal NIC is only 100mbit so I will not be using that.

Yup same NIC everything was the same ( I just swapped the OS for the test).

Nope just tried and created a share to include only the HDD attached to the mobo and exclude the ones connected to the PERC card and the speeds were the same

I would love 80-90MB/s. My tests for this speed was when I changed my Unraid box to a windows 7 OS. (I unplugged my usb drive (unraid) and put in another HDD with windows 7 in it to see if it was a hardware issue and it seems those would be my 'maximum speeds' with this system build). When I am using Unraid, I am still getting 40-60MB/s. 40 when transferring using Krusader and ~55MB/s when using windows to transfer. parity has been finished during these speed tests, so that is not a factor.

Okay just tested with windows 7 and I'm getting speeds of 80-90MB/s Write and Read.

I would like fast read speeds if I'm transferring files and such off the drive for various purposes. I'm going to test going to windows 7 on my unraid set-up and trying a transfer to see if it's hardware or a software issue. I will most likely upgrade my cpu to a e8400 in the near future.
