  1. Well, its worth giving it a shot. Installing virt-manager right now on an ubuntu vm... Lets see what happens :-)
  2. Would I actually need to recreate the windows vm? and does ubuntu need to stay around after?
  3. Oh, yes... very good questions :-) I forgot you guys haven't been hanging out at my house the past week or so why I go through this whole thing!! root@NAS1:/etc/libvirt/qemu# dmesg | grep Vi AMD-Vi: Found IOMMU at 0000:00:00.2 cap 0x40 AMD-Vi: Interrupt remapping enabled AMD-Vi: Initialized for Passthrough Mode kvm: Nested Virtualization enabled
  4. Right, and I wouldn't want to throw this thread off topic either. I've started a separate thread. Thanks again for helping me get this started!
  5. I started a similar topic under the Xen forum, but gave up on getting it working, and moved over here with the hopes of a more configurable KVM might allow what I need to happen. Quick Story: HTPC controlled whole house audio via program called Casatunes. It's 1 part Software and 1 part Hardware. I have a PCIE card that is from Casatunes (Xli card). but lspci shows it as a Creative Labs card. That PC's HDD died, and I was already considering trying to virtualize it so here I am! 07:00.0 PCI bridge: Creative Labs [sB X-Fi Xtreme Audio] CA0110-IBG PCI to PCIe Bridge 08:00.0 Audio device: Creative Labs [sB X-Fi Xtreme Audio] CA0110-IBG I want to virtualize this PC now but I need that soundcard to work. So, I've gotten a KVM Windows 7 VM up and running. Installed Webvirtmgr as well. I've started pouring through forum posts and I figure it's time for a little help. I'm attaching my current xml file. I have been reading through @peter_sm's posts as he seems to have a lot of information on the subject, however being clueless as I am I'm probably screwing stuff up. I'm trying to follow this thread: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=33927.0 I created the two scripts, and ran the first (on just the 08 device above). The iommu_groups script has the above device grouped into Group 13. The bad part (I think) is this is a large group that includes my network card as well. ### Group 13 ### 00:15.0 PCI bridge: AMD/ATI [Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.] SB700/SB800/SB900 PCI to PCI bridge (PCIE port 0) 00:15.1 PCI bridge: AMD/ATI [Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.] SB700/SB800/SB900 PCI to PCI bridge (PCIE port 1) 00:15.2 PCI bridge: AMD/ATI [Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.] SB900 PCI to PCI bridge (PCIE port 2) 00:15.3 PCI bridge: AMD/ATI [Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.] SB900 PCI to PCI bridge (PCIE port 3) 07:00.0 PCI bridge: Creative Labs [sB X-Fi Xtreme Audio] CA0110-IBG PCI to PCIe Bridge 08:00.0 Audio device: Creative Labs [sB X-Fi Xtreme Audio] CA0110-IBG 09:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 09) 0a:00.0 USB controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. Device 1142 0b:00.0 USB controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. Device 1142 Do I have to setup ALL of those devices in my Windows 7 VM to get the one I want? Does that mean I'm going to need another network card for unRaid so I can pass the OB one to Windows7 ? I tried modifying my XML to add the following lines for just the PCIe device: I got this bit of code from : http://libvirt.org/formatdomain.html#elementsHostDev <hostdev mode='subsystem' type='pci' managed='no'> <source> <address domain='0x0000' bus='0x08' slot='0x00' function='0x0'/> </source> When I try to startup the VM this is where I seem to be pointed to the fact that I need to pass the entire group through. I'm certainly not even confident that what I put above is the right way even. I feel pretty far over my head with this stuff and I'm hoping someone can help! WindowsVM.txt
  6. While I know you're kidding.. RIGHT! I'm trying to replace my HTPC that had a HDD failure. I need to be able to get a PCIE sound card passed through to the VM though for this to work. I tried in Xen w/o success, so now I'm trying to learn KVM. 07:00.0 PCI bridge: Creative Labs [sB X-Fi Xtreme Audio] CA0110-IBG PCI to PCIe Bridge 08:00.0 Audio device: Creative Labs [sB X-Fi Xtreme Audio] CA0110-IBG I think part of my problem is, while the card itself is physically a PCIE card, it's a PCI card underneath (hence the bridge). and it is part of a larger group of other devices. Not sure if I can get away with just pacing one through. That card is needed for my Casatunes software to handle my whole house audio.
  7. I've still got the red default storage block. I'm not sure how to get rid of that. I removed the default.xml file but that didn't work... I didn't quite understand how you said to remove it above.
  8. Ok, I created a new storage and pointed it to my Windows7 directory, then I just copied and pasted my windows7 xml into create new instance. That seemed to work. I was able to start my VM too! Yea! Thanks
  9. My VM is on my cache drive in /mnt/cache/VMs/Windows7 I had copied windows7.xml to /etc/libvirt but I'm guessing now thats wrong. I installed webvirt also in /mnt/cache/VMs/webvirmgr
  10. Thanks! Ok, so I deleted mine and recreated one as unraid. Should my windows7.xml show up in instances if it's in /etc/libvirt dir? If not, how do I add it from the file itself? or copy/paste it? Sorry if these are silly questions... One more since I'm blurting out questions! I'm getting a warning/error in the Create Instance page "Requested operation is not valid: storage pool 'default' is not active"
  11. Ok, I'm a little confused. This is all pretty new to me so I'm not blaming anyone's attempt to explain how to use this, I'm just a super n00b! I've got the plugin(s) installed (installed under b9 only this morning). I have a running windows7 kvm. I shut it down. I moved the windows7.xml to /etc/libvert, edited the /etc/libvert/windows7.xml's vnc line and restarted the plugin(s). When I go to add a connection on the Dashboard, and type in 'unRaid' under local socket, it asks me 'Please match the requested format' I tried typing in the name of my win7 xml (windows7.xml) and it took it. Added a box/connection but I don't believe it's linked to my VM. If someone could point me at least in the general direction of what I should be doing I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
  12. various file system mix/match (rfs/brtfs cache with rfs array) mover script cache-less writes to the rfs array parity corrections? (not sure how you'd invoke that) I have no idea what your test plans look like but those jump out at me.
  13. So, I upgraded my hardware, and with my new setup my current Sandisk flash drive is reading very slow. My hardware pretty much matches Jumperalex's (same MB/CPU) and he experienced the same thing. HE switched to a PNY flash drive after testing a few and it worked. SO... when I picked up my new MB/CPU/RAM I picked up a PNY flash drive. Formatted it UNRAID Put latest OS on it (clean) Ran the make_bootable.bat (as administrator). Boots into unraid fast (yea!) but I cannot obtain the GUID. Any idea what would cause this? I tried formatting/installing a second time just for the heck of it. Same results. Hardware Asus M5A97 R2.0 Socket AM3+ ATX AMD Motherboard AMD FX 8320 Black Edition 3.5GHz AM3+ Boxed Processor Corsair 8GB DDR3-1333 (PC3-10600) ECC CL9 Desktop Memory Module Flash Drive The PNY is an 8GB Attache (P-FD8GBATT03-GE) This is what I see. Edit: I just booted that flash drive with my laptop, and received the same results. I guess the flash drive is a no go for UNRAID
  14. Removed both unmenu lines from the go file and rebooted however trying to manually start cache_dirs from telnet gives the same result: Try this... In cache_dir script, find "ulimit -v 5000" and change it to "ulimit -v 15360" I just downloaded the latest script and tried running it and got the same messages as you. But I saved my old version and did an sdiff and the only difference was the change above for the shell, and the ulimit. Changing that allowed it to run for me. EDIT Well cache_dir's is running BUT while still connected to my server via ssh I started getting: awk: error while loading shared libraries: libdl.so.2: failed to map segment from shared object: Cannot allocate memory awk: error while loading shared libraries: libdl.so.2: failed to map segment from shared object: Cannot allocate memory So I'm guessing my fix isn't a complete fix.
  15. Should the Cache Drive also conform to these instructions? After upgrading from 5rc8a to 5rc16c, my cache drive says: Partition format: unknown
  16. I ended up buying both a Boxee Box and Roku2 XS. the Roku is mostly a toy with a few nice features such as UFC.TV Amazon instant. But primarily I use Boxee Box. I like the UI better (used it on my HTPC too) and it plays local media out of the box w/o any nonsense such as having to install a Plex media server on another box to transcode into "roku" format media.
  17. I have an unopened Roku 1 (XDS) that has both Composite (Yellow+ Red/White) and HDMI. I got it off Woot, however ended up getting a deal on a Roku2 and bought one of them too :-/ I will sell the roku 1 for $40 bux (Its refurbished. I paid $50+5 shipping about two weeks ago)
  18. Thanks for the heads up, I've got a couple old 1500's that cost almost that much to replace the batteries in, but this one has a pretty LCD! :-)
  19. This worked! I was able to remove the HPA partition! Thanks
  20. I have two WD250's that I just finished running 3 cycles of preclear on. I noticed after I started the preclear that the syslog showed them as both having hpa. Once the preclear's finished, I tried the command hparm -N pXXXXXX /dev/sdX I get an error about buggy drivers. Next I took my dos bootable flash drive, and put HDAT2 on it, booted and ran HDAT2. This comes up and only seems to recognize 4 of the 6 drives in the server. the last two (WD 250's) show up as BIOS devices. Whats my next step?
  21. Only thing I can find in anywhere is in /tmp for preclear right now (cycle 2 is in progress). I missed the end of cycle 1. in /tmp I found: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Nov 12 20:47 disk_not_normal and cat smart_mid_pending_reallocate_sdd 0 sectors were pending re-allocation after pre-read in cycle 1 of 3. 0 sectors were pending re-allocation after zero of disk in cycle 1 of 3. 0 sectors were pending re-allocation after post-read in cycle 1 of 3. This is on a WD15EARS that's been in my windows 7 pro (media center) box for a little while. It has a high LCC, but exactly zero errors noted in smart, but I wanna watch it close. I have run wdidle3.exe /D to disable the quick parking moving foward. === START OF READ SMART DATA SECTION === SMART Attributes Data Structure revision number: 16 Vendor Specific SMART Attributes with Thresholds: ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 0x002f 200 200 051 Pre-fail Always - 0 3 Spin_Up_Time 0x0027 183 180 021 Pre-fail Always - 5850 4 Start_Stop_Count 0x0032 098 098 000 Old_age Always - 2372 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 200 200 140 Pre-fail Always - 0 7 Seek_Error_Rate 0x002e 100 253 000 Old_age Always - 0 9 Power_On_Hours 0x0032 083 083 000 Old_age Always - 12971 10 Spin_Retry_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 11 Calibration_Retry_Count 0x0032 100 253 000 Old_age Always - 0 12 Power_Cycle_Count 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 18 192 Power-Off_Retract_Count 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 13 [color=red]193 Load_Cycle_Count 0x0032 125 125 000 Old_age Always - 226489[/color] 194 Temperature_Celsius 0x0022 128 115 000 Old_age Always - 22 196 Reallocated_Event_Count 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 0 197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 0 198 Offline_Uncorrectable 0x0030 200 200 000 Old_age Offline - 0 199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always - 0 200 Multi_Zone_Error_Rate 0x0008 200 200 000 Old_age Offline - 0 SMART Error Log Version: 1 No Errors Logged SMART Self-test log structure revision number 1 No self-tests have been logged.   22. On the two I have preclearing right now I used -A w/o any Jumper. This is the info I ended up with searching the forum last night. I don't have my PC parts yet so I'm preclearing from console on my HTPC's hardware, so I've not built an array yet.
  23. I'm new here (just look at my post count ), But I just bought three of these today at Best Buy (they had 4). I opened two of them tonight and am running preclean on them. Reason I'm posting is, I have no idea if this is common knowledge or not, but the stickers on these drives are WD20 EARS 64MB Cache. Not the model number listed with only 32MB cache. Oh well, hope this is valuable information. Not to hijack this much, but my first unRaid has just started! PC parts should be here Wednesday.
