[Solved][6.12.4] How to get better internet speeds?
Hereby the log, but I just started my server cause I moved it back to it's original place. So I'll post it now, but let me know if you like a bigger log, then we need to wait some more. I thought maybe in an other room the 1000 Mbps will work, but nope still my fritzbox and my server give me 100 Mbps. rik-tower-diagnostics-20240105-1608.zip

[Solved][6.12.4] How to get better internet speeds?
I tried with different cables but nothing seems to make a difference. Still unknown status with trying different ports, as we have here in the house between the router and the unRAID server 2 or 3 network switches. All the switches are all gigabit switches, so can that still be the culprit? As they are 1000 Mbps... That's my conclusion with my limited knowledge. Please, correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for replying so fast @itimpi!

[Solved][6.12.4] How to get better internet speeds?
Hi all, I am not much into networking. But 10 minutes ago, I did a speedtest on my unRAID server with different docker containers as well via a VM without VPN. Those speeds were continuous about 80 Mbps, or 10MB/s. I also noticed in my modem/router, my Fritz box, that my unRAID server is connected via a 100 Mbps connection although I have everything wired up with Cat 5e cables and gigabit switches. My internet connection at home is 500/500 Mbps via fiber, and I get close to those speeds with my normal PC. So what can I do to get higher speeds on my unRAID server? And what kind of info do you guys need more to inform me about this? I hope you'll tech savvies can help me out with this matter. Kind Regards, Rik

[Support] manuel-rw Docker Support thread
Hi @manrw, Here I've attached the full log of the slskd docker in txt format. It doesn't say much, to me, but maybe to you it is a lot clearer. I hope you can help me out with this one, I would love to use Slsdk via Unraid. Kind Regards! log_slskd.txt

[Support] manuel-rw Docker Support thread
The weird thing is that is stops so quickly after starting, I don't have the chance to check in the console. I know that the dockers connectivity is the issue, cause when on bridge without VPN it is working. But what is wrong with the config, I mean other dockers do work while routed through Gluetun. What can I do to change the dns? And where. Sorry for all the questions but I'm a beginner using docker.

[Support] manuel-rw Docker Support thread
Hi @manrw, I have a question about routing traffic through another container while using slskd. Because I live in the Netherlands, I would like to route that docker through a VPN container. In my opinion I routed it just like other apps with "--net=container:GluetunVPN" as Extra argument. But still, that doesnt work for me. I get the following error(s): [07:27:14 WRN] Failed to check version: Failed to retrieve latest release version from GitHub: Resource temporarily unavailable (api.github.com:443) [07:27:14 FTL] Application terminated unexpectedly Soulseek.AddressException: Failed to resolve address '': Resource temporarily unavailable ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException (00000001, 11): Resource temporarily unavailable Is it possible at all to route the traffic of slskd through a VPN container, and is it really needed here? Hope to hear from you. Thanks in advance!

Tower case becomes full
That is indeed what I meant. Sorry for being so unclear, but you understood it. I will connect for the first time 2 cables, do I need more devices (because my second tower only houses max. 15 devices I think.) then I'll disconnect one and see for myself if that still gives enough bandwith. So far so good. Thanks again!

And can I use the 2 last ports on the Intel card, as shown on your picture, for cabling to the SAS Adapter 2X Internal SFF-8087 to 2X External SFF-8088 Slot? Because I will use then 4 port on the Intel and just 2 on the sas adapter. Are those 2 ports enough to send through the 4 other disk ports so to speak?

Ah superb, so just screwing the card to the case and then a Molex plug to a psu. Everything looks easier with pictures. Thanks then I'll try to make it like in your picture. If you have more pictures, I would love to receive them, on the forums or via PM.

Sorry I am very unsure and not very known in that world, and I don't have much financial space to make mistakes and so on. That's why I am a little hestitating.... But a Molex plug for a PCIe card? Can you give me a example for what I need then. Because I don't have a second motherboard to plug it into. EDIT: Something like this from the first mobo to the pcie card?

Sorry, but I don't have that. Are that these cables, cause then I understand what you mean with that: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Internal-SFF-8087-Breakout/dp/B012BPLYJC?th=1 Kind Regards. EDIT: And the Intel Card that I'll use, do I put that into a mobo or not, just like this image right. So without plugging it into a motherboard? Just attaching the cables into the card, but not into any motherboard, am I right? (Because it has a connection for a mobo)

Thanks @JorgeB, so those plus the 2 cards makes the complete shopping list, right. And also thanks to Jonathan for being such a great helper!!!! Well in a short while I am going to order these and hopefully I'll get them working! Woohoo. 😁

Guys and girls, hereby a polite shout out te help me further on with this build. I really would like to realize this, but without a good shopping list it won't build itself.... So please help me with the above post. Thanks in advance!!!

Tower case becomes full
I am now trying to make a shopping list. I want to connect another 10 disks So then I need the following stuff on there: LSI SAS 9207-8i (https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/330124/lsi-sas-9207-8i/specificaties/) Intel RAID Expander Card RES2SV240 (https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/339803/intel-raid-expander-card-res2sv240/specificaties/) The LSI comes in my first tower and the Intel in my second tower right? And what cables, besides sata data cables, do I need to hook this up? Thanks again all! I already have this one, Supermicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8, but it is full with 8 hdds, https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/286496/supermicro-aoc-sas2lp-mv8/specificaties/

Okay, thanks for the information. Is this something I can use? https://maxict.nl/lenovo-ibm-serveraid-m5210-sassata-controller-raid-controller-pci-express-x8-30-12-gbits-p8167460.html?btwview=in It is a sas/sata controller. We only have these in Holland, with SAS. See link: https://tweakers.net/controllers/vergelijken/#filter:PYxBCsIwFETvMusIMSDSHKDgwlWW0kVIv_olNOEndGHJ3ZuCuBrm8WY28LKSVPdO2VGkUDktsE8fCykkmUlGpjjDIgt_Cn7QJamd-RL-JFO4de90Vsj-RY6_BHvR6hgGunO_7aV0beRYSQrsBmPMcOTqI-wDRl81ptbaDg Thanks again!

Hi @JonathanM, sorry for my late reply, it's vacation time here. Is this something you meant, because the 4e's that we have here in Holland, none contain a ASM 1064/1164 chip. I saw this one for about 80 euros: IBM ServeRAID M1115 SAS/SATA controller for IBM system X (81Y4448)... Does that work, in my server? And furthermore I need a SAS expander, any recommendations?
-
Tower case becomes full
Okay thanks for the information. I think I need a good explanation on a SAS expander, because I really don't know how to functions. So I am going to read https://techtellectual.com/what-is-a-sas-expander/ tomorrow. Still do you know a good 4e card? Then I'll check how I get such a card here to the Netherlands. And can I take any generic internal/external 8088 to 8087 adapter. Or does also that needs to be of a specific brand? And last but not least, how do I get a good switch for turning the second power supply on and off? Because reading your post above, I think I need an external PSU switch or something like that... Thanks again and I wish you a good night (as it is 1:40 AM here) Greetings, Rik

I see the last drawing in the opening post, but does that mean that I need 2 mobo's? Becuase where do I put the SAS expaned in? That goes in somewhere, right... Because when I read that, I see also a second case with mobo, cpu, os and so on...
-
Tower case becomes full
Okay can you supply an drawing or picture of how that should look? Because I really don't understand how to put those things together. I have autism, so imagining things is really hard for me, sorry. And one other question where in the Netherlands can I get a cheap 4e card? Thanks again for all the help both @JonathanM and @JorgeB!!!
-
Tower case becomes full
Okay thanks! I'll wait until JorgeB has time to check this out. At the moment I cannot physically access the tower because we're having home renovation going on here, so I cannot go further until that is over. I understand the parts in the post you just mentioned. But one thing, do I need another motherboard and parts in that second tower? Because I thought that every card was going to have a place on my first motherboard... And to come back on that AOC card, I had some minor issues with it but those were quickly solved... Still no headaches and running strong for about 8 years, that card. 😆

Tower case becomes full
Ah, okay. I think I get it now. So I already have a Supermicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 for the main Tower that I am using (the one that is full now). Then I buy 1 4e card that I use as a "hub" for the expander on eBay. After that I put the 4e card in my main tower mobo. Then I have 4 extra SAS slots in my main tower. And how do I connect the 4e card and expander together? If that succeeds then I can use the expander for the 10 or more disks/sata 7pin connections, I am going to put in my second tower? Am I thinking right? Thanks again, I am so grateful that the unRAID software has such a nice community 😉 Edit: The card I mentioned above is the cheapest here in the Netherlands, so I think it is going to be a 8i card...

Tower case becomes full
Thanks that cleared my mind a lot. So for, let's say 20 drives (2 parity and 18 data) I need three 8 port cards? Are there even payable motherboards with 3 PCIe x16 slots? Or can I use some in a x4 or x8 slot, as the mobos with those numbers of slots are waaaaaay easier to purchase and more choice. Thanks again! Edit: So then I am looking at a card as this one "LSI SAS 9207-8i"? That's an eight port with PCIe 3.0 x8.

Will keep reading, but still one question, though. What is a LSI 4e or 8e? Large Scale Integrated? And 4e? 8e? Sorry I am not that deep into IT... 😬

Tower case becomes full
Thanks @JonathanM, I am now reading through that thread. So I am looking for a card that gives me at least 10 connections to SATA. Is something like a Dell PERC H200 giving me that? Or what PCIe expansion card can I use to get another 10 SATA HDD's connected with my motherboard? Edit: Something like this? https://www.ebay.com/itm/195577453931

Tower case becomes full
Sorry for the necropost, or how this is called as this is a thread from 2020. But I am really running out of space now with a lot of disks. I want to go to a second tower with 9 or more internal 3,5 inch hdd bays. I know I can mount/screw all the 11-20 disks in my second tower, but how do I connect them, so that I can use both tower's disks on 1 unraid motherboard / system? So how do I connect all those disks to my main unraid tower? I have a second big tower, and then what do I need more? Else than the disks and a second psu in the second tower, of course. Sorry, maybe, for asking this "again", but I still am not finished with this matter of expanding. I have knowledge about building 1 case, but I don't have the knowledge to expand it beyond 1 case/tower. Thanks in advance, again, Rik
