User share has disappeared from the share tab

Recommended Posts

Hi there, as a start, I'm  total novice unraid. The kind that watch youtube videos, and jumped in the deep end. The server itself is made from old pc parts i have around with some new drives. For the past few months i've been having a few problems with drives disconnecting or Device is disabled, contents emulated error, but i just read and learn but lost quite a few files already. The problem occurred when one of my parity drive wend down along with another drive, and the power went out when i was rebuilding. I lost the contents of the drive. So did the procedure and rebuilt the array when i noticed all the shares are gone. I waited for the Parity-Check and rebuild to finish and did most of the solutions in the forum but none seem to work.

I know the files are there. When i check the drives, folders and files are present, but its not showing up in the user shares. I have rebooted a few times already and still nothing. Cant add a share, it gets deleted immediately. Ive removed the recycle bin app. whitelisted it on the ad blocker and virus scanner and firewall. and i know i get a metadata corruption error when i look at the screen when the server reboots.

I'm stuck and i need guidance. Can anyone help?

I've added the diagnostics and a few screenshots.

Thank you.

According to the syslog in the diagnostics you have file system level corruption on disk12.  You should run a file system check/repair on the drive.

I went to the link and tried to follow the guide but its a little hard for me to understand but i got that there is an error on my drive 12 and needed to run XFS_repair. Looked for guides to use it and was able to fix the drive. This helps a lot with the constant 'disabled' drives i keep getting.

Than you very much for the help. I thought having unraid would be easy, its a bit harder than i thought.

Which bit did you find confusing?   That link should have told you how you could run the check and the repair from the unRaid GUI without the need to look for any other guide :( Feedback might allow the wording to be improved.

Disks needing filesystem repair, and disks that are disabled, are independent conditions with independent solutions. A disk that is disabled needs to be rebuilt from parity, a disk needing filesystem repair needs to have the repair tool used.

A disk can be corrupt, even so corrupt that its filesystem won't mount. Filesystem repair it the way to deal with that.

A disk can be disabled, rebuilding from parity is the way to deal with that.

A disk can be both corrupt and disabled. Usually we recommend repairing the emulated disk, then if that is successful, rebuilding.

Filesystem repair won't fix a disabled disk, and rebuilding won't fix a corrupt filesystem.

Is it always on the same drive ? If so, you should also run an extended SMART test on it.

No, for months now i've been testing it. Using different sata cables, power splitter cables. I'm beginning to think its either the RAM or the Board. I cant do anything right now, no budget to build a server from scratch so i have to make due with makeshift parts. I'm just being careful with discs becoming disabled when in use. I'm, sure its not the power supply. 650 is enough i think for 14 drives.

I dont know. I tried to follow the guide but got lost somewhere. Ive always been a visual person, so even setting up the raid itself i relied on videos.

Yes. Thank you. I was just expressing that i do sometimes get an error that i need to run repair, but just didnt know how to do so. I usually see the errors on the screen when i boot up/shut down. At least now i know what to do when it pops in again.

Does anyone know whether Space Invader has done a video covering File System Check & Repair?    If so I could add a link to it in the documentation.    If not maybe it might be a potential subject for a future video?
