Installing UNRAID (6.9.1) Issue: No space left on device

Recommended Posts

I haven't seen this come up yet, so I thought I'd share my experience trying to install UNRAID. It's not going well. I'd love to find the issue and share with any other users trying to install for the first time.

Issue: Unable to install UNRAID due to "No space left on device"

Version: 6.9.1

Hardware:

- CPU

Intel Core i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz

- Drives

Two WD 6TB unformatted drives

- USB

I've a 64 GB USB 3.0 ADATA USB Flash Drive Media. This is the only USB device that I've found to try with.

I've tried with legacy USB support enabled/disabled, and with quick boot enabled/disabled.

I've tried installing with several methods but always end up with the "No space left on device" message throughout the boot logs, and the tower login prompt. With both GUI mode non-GUI mode as well as GUI safe mode.

These are some of the methods I've tried. Without any success and all ending up on the same screen above.

  1. The macOS Unraid USB Creator (Apple M1 Device)
  2. The Windows Unraid USB Creator (Parallels and Native Windows)
  3. rufus for Windows (Parallels and Native Windows)
    1. With the UNRAID .zip renamed to ISO

    2. Creating a kubuntu USB with a persistent partition and then replacing the disk contents

  4. belenaEther and the zip renamed to iso

        2. I can submit this as a separate issue if that's helpful

I've ordered a new Sandisk USB Device to try with, in case this USB Drive is the issue.

Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated! I'm happy to explain or provide additional info, troubleshoot.

Is there any way you can add RAM? I suspect 2GB may not be enough for the latest version of Unraid.

Good call. I haven't touched this tower in a while and can add more. I was mostly hoping to try out the OS to get a feel for it before investing in parts, but if system memory is causing the issue, I can see what I can do here.

It's either this or a Synology NAS for these new drives. Ideally I'd like to make a compact quiet server.
