Nice littel coompiliation you got going here.  What I'd love to know is which is the best at keeping the drives cool.

;D  There's always one in every crowd.  I suppose we can expect to see Dolly Parton and a birdcage too?  ;D

Seriously, I too would like to express my appreciation for hardware displayed so far.  Now that you have started, I'm hoping to see the other dozen or so?  ;D

As a heads up i wont be posting any more here... instead ive started to port this list to the wiki. Makes far more sense since others can help maintain a list and add personal comments.

If i get time i may add my opinions on pros and cons as well.

Since probably 1 in 3 + members will want a caddy of some sort i think it will be worth the effort.

I have created a wiki page here http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=SATA_Hard_Disk_Stackers

I would VERY much appreciate any assistance with this anyone would like to offer. On a personal note I think we should be using the wiki more for info dumps like this rather than the forum and this could be a test case.

If you find another stacker add it in. Dont worry about wiki formatting as long as the info is there I or someone else can top and tail it (seconds of work once you have wiki markup under your belt)

Appreciated everyone. !

new caddies added

if you dont feel up to adding info post it here. especially looking for real life experience with any of these caddies

I use 3 of these.  I've got no complaints about them thus far.  None of my drives go over 40c when in use.  They come with all mounting screws and locking sata cables.  I did have to modify my case slightly as it had the tabs for holding each 5 1/4 bay sticking out, but not much of a problem.

nice. I need to work out how to note down rebranded stuff as those are exactly the same (excluding cosmetics) as at least 2 others

GREAT LIST!!!!! I just wish AMS wasn't so damn expensive. I am looking to upgrade my entire array to a SATA array in the near future here!!

Thank you for your hard work

as far as i can tell based on my reading and checkout pictures and specs...... the AMS is just a re branded Jou-Jye with better looking plastics.

there also seems to be a few more re-branding as well. If we can find some of these names we will likely find some good deals.

What to look for is the backplane that has dual sata and molex power like the AMS.

not sure what price point you are looking at, but CyberGuys.com has the AMS 5-in-3 module for $139, the 4-in-3 for $109 and the 3-in-2 for $94. Currently I have the 3 in 2 and it works great. Drives never go above 40C even during heavy use.

Gents I need a small favour.

I am trying to locate the "AMS 5-in-3 module" or one of its clones in the UK. As far as I can tell they are simply unavailable to purchase (after weeks of looking).

If anyone knows where i can get them at a reasonable price I would be forever indebted to you.

I could order from the USA but should customs stop the package the price will increase by at least 50%. Add postage to that and it becomes very very expensive

Cheers

Xcase may have them.

No luck they dont. They do have another which i will add to the wiki though.

Still on the hunt if anyone has any ideas (I have emailed a few large online shops as well).

If this keeps up i may have to just buy the Chenbro 3U rack with 16 Chenbro cages although that obviously much more expensive

We've used the Individual Icy Dock caddies, like in the original UnRaid pre-built systems.

And also the IcyBox 5 into 3 Sata caddies

Bothe are great, but we are swirching all our caddies to the cheaper Coolermaster 4 into 3 cages.  They are not hotswap but are so much quieter and keep the drives nice & cool

The standard fans are prettu quiet but we're replacing them with silent fans.

Mark.

Just loaded up the 5in3 SATA enclosure. A little tight in a Stacker CM case as there are some slightly raised tabs on the case frame - few light taps with a hammer and in she went! Seems to run a LITTLE warmer but not too bad and I can feel air moving over the drives.

Here's a link to the SATABAY5BK from Startech that I posted about back here.

Ya... and if you look in my post... it's the exact same thing as the Addonics one cheezdog posted about.

Looks like there are about 5 or 6 companies branding the same thing.

The forum is full of info on Stackers, caddies and cages so it should prob have its own thread for discussion then the data moved to the wiki.

Heres a start

I think the Skymaster M501 and Wingsonic MSA501 are rebrands of this unit, screen shots look the same.

Data Optics MR425 also looks identical from the front, but the fan power connector has changed from 4x3pin to 1xmolex. Maybe it's just a newer version from the parent company
