[SOLVED] Reassigning disk numbers

Hello

 

I'm just looking for advice how to reassign disk numbers (as safe as possible) without moving files?

They do have data and shares.

Is there an easy way to make:

 

• Disk 1 to become Disk 5.
• Disk 2 to remain as Disk 2.
• Disk 3 to become Disk 8.
• Disk 4 to become Disk 13.
• Disk 5 to become Disk 11.

You have to do a Tools - New Config, and reassign the drives.  Note that parity will not be valid after this (specifically, Parity 2) so you must rebuild the parity information.

Stop the array, unassign parity2, as it's not valid after moving slot assignments.

Start the array without parity2 to commit the change.

Stop the array, set a new config, keep all. Go to the main page, do all your rearranging, keep parity 2 unassigned for now. Mark parity as valid.

Start the array, let the parity check complete, it should show zero errors.

Stop the array, assign parity 2, start and let it build.

Hi Guys

 

Firstly forgive me, my heart is thumping a tad more than normal.

 

I went to New Config, All.

 

I pressed Yes I want to do this, Apply and Done.  At least I'm certain I did.

Have I done something wrong..?

That's the message I would expect if the new config hadn't been applied successfully.

Yes I clearly didn't do it; isn't it funny how nerves can throw you so much!

 

 

 

I am resyncing now, and will look at fixing my shares "Included disks" - also now have a pro licence and the next big one will be the real migration to the new motherboard and case

Hard drives changed, no data loss and parity 2 rebuilt   Topic marked as solved.

Hi terribly sorry to bother but I did an additional full parity check and got the followings errors - is this something I should be concerned about?

I don't really know what this means?

Returned to normal is because you did a new config

 

The read errors however are most likely because of poor cabling etc, but only diagnostics (before a reboot) would tell the story
