BrunoVic
I have set ALL the shares to yes which should move things off the cache drive and onto the array when the movers is invoked. However that doesn't seem to be the case for me and I don't know why it won't clear the cache drive. What can I provide that can help you help me? Quote Link to comment
itimpi
You are likely to get better feedback if you attach your system's diagnostics zip file to your next post in this thread. Did you disable the Docker and VM Services before running mover? Those services will keep files open which stops them being moved. Quote Link to comment
BrunoVic
So I am sitting here watching the mover work. For a moment I see it spike up to 100MB free space and then go back down. It keeps going back and forth between 100MB and 6MB. I see both the read and write counters moving at the same time. This is bizarre. unraid-diagnostics-20220825-1412.zip Quote Link to comment
BrunoVic
I didn't disable docker before the mover. I should do that? Quote Link to comment
BrunoVic
Well ok then I disabled docker and now the cache driver is clearing up. Why am I running into this problem in the first place though? If I re-enable docker will the cache drive fill up again? How can I avoid this? Quote Link to comment

Without more information about what was filling up the drive and the share settings related to that content t is impossible to say. Have you made sure you have set a Minimum Free Space setting for the cache to be larger than the biggest file you expect to be there? Quote Link to comment
Daniel87F
Im also having the same issue, last 20GB from the cache won't go to the array set ALL shares to yes. Turned off all VMs and Dockers. Still no love. server-diagnostics-20220902-2216.zip Quote Link to comment

trurl
Why do you want appdata, domains, system shares on the array? Same question for OP. Dockers/VMs will perform better with them on fast pool (cache), and if they are on the array, array disks can't spin down since these files are always open. Quote Link to comment

If so then mentioning which ones they are might allow us to give you some guidance. Note that the used space on the cache will never go to zero due to the file system overhead once the drive has been formatted. Quote Link to comment

Have you made sure you have set a Minimum Free Space setting for the cache to be larger than the biggest file you expect to be there? I've identified the problem. So once I stopped using my cache drive all together my array just maxed out 5.1TB. After doing more research I narrowed it down to a docker container (unifi) that stored 5.1TB of logs. That's what cause the cache drive to max out and since it was smaller than the array it maxed out quicker than the array itself. Quote Link to comment

I needed it on the array because something was maxing out my cache drive and those where the only things using the cache drive at the time. Seeing how the docker containers are in the appdata folder and one of my docker containers went crazy writing 5.1TB of logs this would explains why when appdata was on the cache drive it was maxing out. I'll take a look. Thanks for the useful tip! Quote Link to comment

It is typically something like 1 to 1.5 percent of the total size of the drive although the overhead varies according to the details of the file system type selected. This applies to all systems, not just Unraid. Quote Link to comment
