July 28, 201114 yr so now that my unraid is up and running in a norco 4224 I am looking at some sort of rack. I know there are 2 option open and closed, closed being the more pricy one. I don't know how big of one to get yet. part of me is thinking since the server will be sitting in a room anyways cheap out and get an open rack. Could any of you post pictures of your rack
July 28, 201114 yr You might give your local craigslist a try for a cheap second hand one. I'm always surprise how many come up for real cheap in my area. Once you have it you probably will need some extra mounting hardware too.

Also do a search on here as there are a few different threads related to racks. I believe Norco actually sells a pretty nice 4 post half or third rack.....
July 28, 201114 yr ...Could any of you post pictures of your rack So very tempting Better yet, post on craigslist requesting that others post pics of their rack... Sorry, couldn't help myself
July 28, 201114 yr If you search, you should find some of my posts regarding this topic, but to make it easy, this is what I bought, and am quite pleased: StarTech Rack: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816129048 Gruber Rails: http://www.cablesandkits.com/gruber-rack-mount-adjustable-rails-black-p-2721.html You should be able to source those parts from somewhere else, especially as NewEgg shipping on the rack is crazy expensive... I bought 2 sets of the Gruber rails, and use one for my 4224, and the other set for my rack-mounted APC backup. There's enough room above the 4224 that I can remove the top of the case to get into the internals, without having to pull it out of the rack. NOTE: The server case and APC Backup do not bolt into these rails! They sits on them, like a shelf (The rails are about 2 or 3 inches wide). Assuming you don't plan on moving your rack up and down stairs, you should be fine. You could bolt them into your rack at the front of the case if you really feel it necessary, but I did not. The biggest advantage is you don't have to worry about screw holes not lining up between different manufacturers' products... Norco rails would be safer, as far as lining up with the 4224 screw-holes, but I've seen some mixed reviews. Some folks like them, others... not so much. HTH!
July 28, 201114 yr i actually picked up this rack for $70 on a craigslist deal. http://www.computerstructures.com/Compaq-Rack-9000-42u-Server-Rack.html watch craigslist!!

July 29, 201114 yr As others have said, CraigsList would probably be your best bet. I picked up an APC NetShelter half rack (22U) a few weeks ago for $150. I also picked up the rackmount KVM for $35 on CraigsList. Ive been looking at rackmount cases for my OpenFiler. I think I'm going to go with the Supermicro SC826TQ-R800LPB. I sure wish I would have purchased a couple more of the SC933s. Next year, I'm going to build new 1U ESX servers.
July 29, 201114 yr Heck I have a full size enclosed rack sitting in my garage. Come get it. Of course I'm in Washington so I'm not sure how/if that helps.
