Forum Formatting Changed?

Featured Replies

Dark Mode went glaringly bright, and other formatting changes also.

Is it the same for everyone, or just me?

Solved by JorgeB

It's a different forum software. Invision. I used to hold a license to this software and ran it for over a decade. Huge mistake.

It's the same software, but it was updated from v4.something to v5, they may still need to do some adjusting to the theme.

Hey all!

Are you still seeing these theme issues?

We've upgraded to IPS 5, the newest version of our forum software (there was no forum change, just the major version upgrade). If you'd like to enable dark mode again, scroll to the bottom and use the theme selection tool to change the color. By default it will use a system-based color mode (aware of your system theme)

The changes between versions of Invision are like different forum software in all but branding. They at some point did a major rewrite and lost a lot of functionality. Then over the course of years seem to have brought a lot back.

To the seasoned and novice user alike, it's all irrelevant because the UI/UX changes are glaring and v5 is only as smilar to v4 as any other brand of forum software.

I stopped using my own perpetual license a long time ago and seemingly, so did every forum I frequent as a member. Unraid is the only forum I recall visiting in the past 10 years still running Invision software.

No more "unread content" button, have to drill into a menu now :(

Also font is tiny

the unread button is in the top right.

actually more 5 steps back compared to the old dark theme ...personally, painful ...

Thanks, JorgeB. Figured there was an update. Found the Dark Mode button (wasn't it in the top right corner before?).

Agree the smaller font sucks.

More interesting, I hadn't visited since I started this thread. I thought that only the thread starter could mark something as a "Solution". Yet, here it is, and I didn't do it.

Notification emails seem to be cluttered with extra stuff as well. I know it's change, and I generally don't like change, so I'll wait it out. I am struggling with the font though.

Moderators can of course do it too.

may 2 questions besides the bad layout, colors, ...

1/ how can i easy mark a subforum as readed, before i could click here ()left symbol) and all unread content inside was marked as readed, not anymore ... now landing inside the sub only ...

image.png

2/ function "content i posted in" ... not showing the proper threads anymore, sample current state

image.png

but there is way more new content in threads where i posted in ... sample from plugins section

image.png

so overall a really bad update here in terms of look & feel and functions in the current state ...

bad look, specially now on the mobile device compared to "v4", desktop ... well ...

but functions are also missleading ... or i am missing something ?

Pretty sucky update to the forum, hate the new BOLD font for topics.

Just to let you know this site is now broken for Brave browser, you cannot 'Reply' or 'quote' , it simply does nothing!, and as Brave is now my current browser I'm kinda screwed (and no im not going to use firefox or chrome), oh well at least i got an excuse not to do any support :-)

EDIT - Turns out the issue is with extension NoScript, even setting the unraid forum site to trusted in NoScript still breaks Reply and Quote functionality!, no idea why NoScript hates the forum so much but switching NoScript off completely seems to be the only solution right now, bit crap!.

Sorry about the pain with this upgrade. Unfortunately Invision is pushing this on forum owners by making feature dev only happen on IPS 5.

I can see what I can do about formatting and bold topics. I’ll keep watching this feedback and trying to improve where we can.

Is there any way to turn off "you might be interested in" at the end of notification emails? I tend to scroll through before reading replies in full and the extra stuff is far longer than the notification.

and may another culprit here (or may im missing something), pinned posts ...

sample, in my plugin Thread i pinned some posts with explenations and tutorials ... but there is no pinned posts feature anymore ?

And the “Featured Replies” that replaced them are not clickable. You can’t click to go to that post or use any of the links in the post.

At the moment, my biggest annoyance is another change. Almost every time I visit the forum, I get the Cloudflare captcha check-box before the forum comes up. It happened only infrequently in the past.

This past update really made the forums a less useful resource for everyone.
