Tvheadend plugin for unRAID V5.0

Featured Replies

KidCastro,

How did you set your openelec to pick up your unraid tvheadend? Im working with a frodo build of openelec, have livetv enabled, ive scanned stations in tvheadened , set the htsp client in openelec to both the name and ip and nothing shows up.

In Openelec, in your tvheadend htsp CONFIGURE, place the ip address of your unraid/tvheadend server and make sure you place user/pass admin:admin then go to live tv and enable it. Should pick up your tvheadend and work. If your having further problems I'll look into my settings in Openelec and let you know if something is different.

Rather than that you may want to give XBMC its own user in the tvheadend configuration menu. Not everyone need web access and admin rights :-P

Yeah thats another option, I just did it with admin for the least headaches  ;) but your way is more logical.

Yeah, I am a network admin so I did that without thinking, great tip Mettbrot!

I just built the media tree Unraid for RC14, with the HD homerun drivers built in.  Tested and working on my system, but let me know if you run into any issues.

You can grab it here:

Would you mind letting me know what menuconfig options you chose?

Thanks!

Is there something else that people on here need?  It looks like RC15 is out, so I'd be happy to rebuild this with whatever people are looking for.

That is - as we speak - unfortunatelly not possible as we don't have the patch Tom applied to the kernel. Don't forget about that.

I have a USB TechnoTrend TT-connect CT 3650 CI, and it is not detected by your kernel.

I would also appreciate if you could add the current PCIe DVBSky and TBS drivers, since I will then order a PCIe board form them.

Thanks for caring,

Are those available in the kernel or do they need to be compiled separately?

botez I tried out your kernel today... requires 2 fixes to be usable by the community but its almost perfect.

userhdhomerun does not automatically load to /usr/bin/userhdhomerun when booting, same as Reginalds 5.0rc12 build but can be bypassed by placing this code in my go file as per my guide, the file is also in my /boot/custom directory. Must be in your compile and autoload to remove the symlink in go file completely.

ln -s /boot/custom/userhdhomerun /usr/bin/userhdhomerun

The bigger issue and this may suit you, but you have compiled the build to load your custom dvb tuner config which is the file dvbhdhomerun to /etc/dvbhdhomerun. This is ATSC so I'm guessing this is the format for your country.

In Reginalds build this is not automatically loaded at all which is the right way to do it because then everyone can use the file template I created to automatically configure there own.

So using Reginalds rc12, same as above, I symlink the config to load on boot using the code below:

ln -s /boot/custom/dvbhdhomerun /etc/dvbhdhomerun

** Note: If I try to symlink it, it doesnt overwrite your config file and I'm left stuck on ATSC

In conclusion, if you auto load userhdhomerun to /usr/bin/userhdhomerun = we dont have to symlink it in GO file which is not big problem. And if you stop dvbhdhomerun from loading to /etc/dvbhdhomerun we can symlink it in go file and this will be alot more streamlined.

Hope this feedback is helpful and then we can have a standard compile with the config file I created for the community to use.

Appreciate the work botez and Reginald put in to release these compiled builds for the latest Limetech releases.

Heres my complete GO file for comparison:

#!/bin/bash
# Start the Management Utility
/usr/local/sbin/emhttp &

cd /boot/packages && find . -name '*.auto_install' -type f -print | sort | xargs -n1 sh -c

ln -s /boot/custom/userhdhomerun /usr/bin/userhdhomerun
ln -s /boot/custom/dvbhdhomerun /etc/dvbhdhomerun
modprobe dvb_hdhomerun && sleep 10 && /usr/bin/userhdhomerun &

sleep 20 && sudo -u root tvheadend -c /mnt/cache/unraid/tvheadend -u root -g video -f 2>&1 >/dev/null

And I have attached my config file to this post, you might want to include it with your build releases, people can edit it as they wish. Also attached the userhdhomerun for reference.

I can also create a PDF file with instructions to include with your releases like my guide on page 37.

Let me know how you go...  ;) Thanks

Thanks for the info Kid Castro.  The automatic inclusion of the tuner is a by-product of my build script. The next time I try to build things I'll set it up like you mention so it's more globally useful :)

I should have a chance to work on this again tomorrow or Tuesday.

If you could auto load userhdhomerun on boot and remove dvbhdhomerun, your build would be perfect.

Just a question? how much time does it take to compile these builds?  :-\

Also, do you symlink the userhdhomerun file in your go script? if not how else does it load.

It takes me about 40 minutes to run the whole thing (extract the bzroot, edit the menuconfig, build the kernel, install the hdhomerun stuff, plus I make a vbox package, then compress the bzroot back up)-- but I only have to pay attention to it during the menuconfig portion.

I do symlink the userhdhomerun from the directory I build it in, in the go script:

ln -s /boot/unraid-custom/src/dvbhdhomerun/userhdhomerun/build/userhdhomerun /usr/bin/userhdhomerun

chown -R root:video /usr/bin/tv_grab_file
sleep 20 && sudo -u root tvheadend -c /mnt/cache/.tvheadend -u root -g video -f 2>&1 >/dev/null

So for a more universal use, I should copy over the userhdhomerun to /usr/bin when I build the bzroot...

Exactly, if you could load userhdhomerun as part of the bzroot process, would be great. From what you said, it wont have to be symlinked for you and everyone else, so not a bad addition all in all -automatic. This is less an issue than the dvbhdhomerun file but would work fine for you, in your case  ;)

Are those available in the kernel or do they need to be compiled separately?

Sorry, honestly I don't know.

Hi there,

today I got my DVBSky T9580 tuner card (s+c/t), plugged it in my unraid server and did not put the extra power connector on (since it said it is optional). I intend to use it with piotrasd`s tvheadend build.

I wanted to use piotrasd's bzroot rc13 because it is supposed to contain dvbsky support.

Not so. Firstly, the firmware (http://www.dvbsky.net/download/dvbsky-firmware.zip) is not in /lib/firmware. So I copied it there:

root@unRAID:/lib/firmware# ls /lib/firmware/

bnx2/  bnx2x/  dvb-fe-ds300x.fw  dvb-fe-ds3103.fw  e100/  rtl_nic/  tigon/

Then testing it: rmod cx23885, modprobe cx23885, dmesg:

It doesn't look good. Only the sat tuner is partially initialized (I dont have SAT :). I would need the cable tuner to work with tvheadend.

I have no experience in these waters and would appreciate you help.

Thanks for caring,

JC

Okay -- I applied the patch needed to build RC15 with media tree and HDHR support.  Per Kid Castro's suggestions, I built-in "userhdhomerun" and removed the auto-loading of dvbhdhomerun.  If you don't know what any of that means, then just ignore it.

You can grab the files needed here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/8gcel97143ltyw8/Unraid_5.0_RC15_media_hdhr.zip

I've included my dvbhdhomerun file, which auto-loads my tuners just fine.  Place it in "/boot/custom".  I'm not sure if that is a universal solution or not, so if you want, you can use the dvbhdhomerun file that Kid Castro's uses by simply creating a file named "dvbhdhomerun" and placing it in /boot/custom/.  It's contents will simply be:

[1110BXXX-0]
tuner_type=DVB-T
[1110BXXX-1]
tuner_type=DVB-T

Where you replace the data in the square brackets with the tuner ID of your HDHR and change the tuner type to be DVB-C, DVB-T, or ATSC.

Regardless, you run all of this by putting the following in your "go" file:

ln -s /boot/custom/dvbhdhomerun /etc/dvbhdhomerun
modprobe dvb_hdhomerun && sleep 10 && /usr/bin/userhdhomerun &
sleep 20 && sudo -u root tvheadend -c /mnt/cache/.tvheadend -u root -g video -f 2>&1 >/dev/null

So far, all is working good on my end -- please test this out if you get a chance and let me know if you run into any issues.

I'm still investigating but still not working, theres an issue with how the hdhomerun loads. Are you using the same userhdhomerun file?

Have a look:

I am using the same userhdhomerun, as far as I can tell.

Is there perhaps a different firmware script for your version of the HDHomerun?  I'm using this -- http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/dvbhdhomerun/

botez, found the solution...

When I load your build and let it load your userhdhomerun automatically and my own custom dvbhdhomerun - it doesnt work.

When I load your build and load the custom userhdhomerun and my own own custom dvbhdhomerun - it works brilliantly.

So after 2 hour testing it works fine in the 2nd option, so if building this build again or future build can you leave those 2 files out.

Makes it work so well, here is my current go script with your rc15 build. I can test if you can rebuild it but I know it will work well  ;)

#!/bin/bash
# Start the Management Utility
/usr/local/sbin/emhttp &

cd /boot/packages && find . -name '*.auto_install' -type f -print | sort | xargs -n1 sh -c

ln -s /boot/custom/dvbhdhomerun /etc/dvbhdhomerun

sleep 20 && sudo -u root tvheadend -c /mnt/cache/unraid/tvheadend -u root -g video -f 2>&1 >/dev/null

Thanks man  8)

userhdhomerun.zip

I'll try to rebuild it today.  I'm curious what could be different about our userhdhomerun files -- I haven't paid enough attention to the make process to see if it detects the tuner type and builds that file specific to what it finds, but perhaps that is what is going on here?
