Tvheadend plugin for unRAID V5.0

Featured Replies

Now I have heard that tvheadend is easy to set up but VDR is more stable and flexible.

@piotrasd: Since you have used both on unraid, VDR and tvheadend, could you summarize your experience and contrast both solutions against each other?

Also I am very curious how to install VDR on unraid (piotrasd has made the necessary packages available, but I don't know how to use them).

Thanks for caring,

JC

Second that. Vdr headless on Unraid would be great.

Hi There,

I am currently running Unraid 5.0RC11. I just installed an Hauppauge DVR 2250 tuner card in the server and I am trying to set up TVheadend on it.

Can someone please help me get this setup? I tried following the instructions in the first post, but I have no clue how to install media tree since I don't know what type of driver I should select from the list.

Any help would be appreciated.

In case you had not noticed, I am not an advanced linux user, please bear this in mind.  ;D

For would-be VDR users...

I am working through piotrasd's VDR packages to get VDR running on my box (using an HDHomeRun / ATSC in the US)

So far, through trial and error and a lot of web searches on VDR, I have gotten VDR to load and to recognize my tuners without stopping itself.  I can access the web interface on port 8008, though that is just the tip of the iceberg, I think.

In any case, I have been keeping a detailed text file on every step I have taken along the way.  The goal is to put together a "how-to" when I am finished, much like KidCastro did for HDHomeRun users with TVH a few pages back in this thread.

I have no idea how long it will take to get it right, but so far today I have made decent progress.  As soon as I get it completely working, I'll post my "how-to" for you guys to try.  I am hoping for completion within a few days to a week, time permitting at night.  Cheers!

Hi All

I have currently have an N36L Microserver and I would like to run this plugin so I can have XBMC installed on my media centre machine and stream and record live TV, correct me if I am wrong but this plugin should enable me to do this?

I was wondering which Tuner card I shoud purchase, I have a Hauppage 2200 at the moment, would this work without to much hassle? Or is there any other known working tuner cards with this plugin that wil fit into the N36L?

Thanks

Lee

Ok, now I found another set of instructions to follow from https://github.com/spylex/tvheadend_unraid

I updated to RC12a with media Tree and followed the instructions but now I get:

tvheadend: error while loading shared libraries: libcurl.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

When I try to start the plugin....

I found this http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Installing_Tvheadend_in_unRAID and learned that I need to install some additional librairies for the plugin to work. Now I can have TVheadend start. However, I was having a problem login into the WEB gui using the user name and passwords I had set.

I did

killall -9 tvheadend

tvheadend -C

And this fixed it.

Ok, I managed to get TVheadend to find services and to actually stream them to my computer!

However, I am missing some muxes and the only option for manually adding the channels is to select between QAM-64 and QAM-256. There is no V8SB option. Anybody has a workaround?

Thanks,

G.

modulation wich you can choose from list - are from list wich your tuner support - tvheadend show always supported modulation, fec etc.

Hey botez, any chance of an updated build for 5.0rc16c if not, we can wait till final release I guess  ;)

It should list V8SB in the drop down list but it is not there.

My adaper is "Samsung S5H1411 QAM/8VSB Frontend". I think it is a bug with the current version of TVH

Could someone please add

vendorID 153b productID 1182

vendorID 153b productID 1181

in the driver for dw2102, next time someone is compiling a new kernel?

I just bought a terratec cinergy s2 dual pcie, a clone of tevii s480, but the driver wont load because the vendor and productid doesn't match.

Others have had luck with this (with ubuntu):

modprobe dvb-usb-dw2102
echo 153b 1182 > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/dw2102/new_id
echo 153b 1181 > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/dw2102/new_id

But I understand that you have to plug in the device after this command in order for the device to load (apparently this is used for USB devices) but as it is a PCIe card with a USB bridge, I cant just unplug it and plug it in again.

This is some additional information on the card in case you need it:

New USB device found, idVendor=153b, idProduct=1182

New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3

Product: TERRATEC PCIe Dual-Tuner

Manufacturer: TERRATEC

SerialNumber: 000000000010020101

[CINERGY.NTAMD64]

%S483BDA.DeviceDesc% = SAllBDA.D662,USB\VID_153B&PID_1181

%S484BDA.DeviceDesc% = SAllBDA.D662,USB\VID_153B&PID_1182

I managed to pick up the missing services by adding the channels as QAM-64 and manually editing the files in /TVH/dvbmuxes and changing the constellation to 8VSB. In no time the channels were picked up by my adapter.

Also, it was a PITA but I stumbled my way into having the EPG channel information for the channels that I do get.

piotrasd ( And all!)

After a bit of advice please! :)

I'm thinking about compiling a kernel which includes Audio drivers so I can use my unRAID box as a Squeeze Player ( using Logitech Media Server plugin). I've used the How-To before to recompile a kernel a long time ago, but I don't know how I would go about adding the custom kernel patches included in the latest RC?

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated! :)

Botez,

Dont suppose you could point me in a good direction for a script to to rebuild the kernel and add Audio Driver support could you?! Would be v. much appreciated!! :)

Has anyone been able to get the virtualbox plugin to work with Piotrasd's builds?

I tried to compile Virtualbox but I was getting nonsense errors...

Virtualbox works with Botez's builds but my Hauppauge card isnt' supported.

You can get the scripts I use to extract the bzroot/bzimage, compile the kernel, and then compress the bzroot/image, here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/myw37v3ht4oc6rw/unraid-custom.zip

Place the "unraid-custom" directory in /boot.  The order I run the scripts is:

bzroot-extract.sh

kernel.sh

bzroot-dvbhdhomerun.sh (which you can skip if you don't care about building the hdhomerun drivers)

bzroot-compress.sh

During the kernel script, the config menu will pop up, and here is where you can include different drivers for audio/video/ethernet/etc.  For instance, in my build I add the video drivers for linux, along with analog and digital tuners, and make sure to also add the Realtek r8169 ethernet driver.

Let me know if you have any questions on this and I'll be glad to answer them to the best of my abilities.

My builds had a similar issue until I changed the packages I used to compile the kernel.  All of the supporting libraries have to match up between the Virtualbox build and these media builds in order for them to play together nicely.  If you look at my scripts in the previous post, you can see the versions I am using to build the kernel.  We could compare with Piotrasd's and see where we get...

In the end, it would probably be better if I just started supporting other tuners than just the hdhomerun -- if anyone has the steps to do that, either in the kernel menu options or in a separate script, let me know and I'll try to incorporate that in my next build.

Awesome! Thanks a lot for that! Ill try them tonight afterword! Just to confirm there is nothing special I need to do because of the kernel patch used in the latest RC build?

In the kernel menu options using:

Device Drivers ---> Multimedia Support ---> Video for Linux ---> DVB for Linux

This should include drivers for a lot of people.

http://git.linuxtv.org/media_tree.git

This should cover drivers for almost everybody.

http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/List_of_Device_Vendors

This is the Device Vendors support by the media_tree.git

I will play with getting support for my card added tonight.

I would appreciate the "extra" driver support, my cards used to work in the rc8a version, but not in the rc16c.

I realize this might be because it's *only* for HDHOMERUN?

I get this in my tvheadend settings page:

NOT DETECTED

There is no DVB-S/S2, DVB-T or DVB-C tuner in your system

I have two OTA (not sattelite) cards, a Samsung and an LG.
