October 5, 201312 yr I updated the file the addon downloads with the new one. I someone wants to try the rewrite, you can just open the plg file and in line 15: swap tvheadend-latest.txz with tvheadend-experimental.txz

October 10, 201312 yr I'm using mack's 5.0 with media and the tvheadend plugin, and neither the "latest" nor "experimental" build recognizes my hdhomerun prime. Not sure if mack's version contains dvb-hdhomerun, anybody else having problems?
October 13, 201312 yr Quick update on VDR progress: I posted a few months ago about trying to get piotrasd's VDR packages up and running. I have finally had a chance to get somewhere with this. So far, I have 5.0 stable with an HDHomeRun and VDR working for the first time this afternoon. Right now, I can pause and resume live TV for ATSC OTA channels in the US. I have been documenting my steps so I can post a detailed how-to once I get it all figured out. Hang with me! more to come! Cheers!

October 16, 201312 yr Great, I'll be very interested to read that, want to try it on a DVB-T2 system in the UK. Look forward to hearing all about it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD It looks like we have a similar setup so I will be very interested in what you have to say and what you've found. Thanks for keeping track! Two things I've noticed so far: 1) the picture has some weird stuff going on with it on all channels. It's dropping small blocks of the picture every 10 seconds or so. Maybe I can fix it in channels.conf file. We'll see. 2) the EPG is a pain compared to Tvheadend (and that's saying something, because I originally thought Tvheadend's EPG setup was painful!) Because of these two things (#1 particularly) I'm running the latest Tvheadend as my "production" backend (keep wife happy) while I play with VDR behind the scenes. I'll post my write-up shortly so maybe you guys can also try it out and see if you experience similar issues. I also want to share something I found while installing Tvheadend on my fresh 5.0 install- It's called Tvheadend mobile UI, and it gives a great mobile interface to the 9981 port, and more importantly, a nice EPG. https://github.com/polini/TvheadendMobileUI All you have to do is install the git package for slackware 13.1, checkout the repository, and "cp" or "ln -s" a specific directory to /usr/share/tvheadend/src/webui/static/ Then you just navigate to http://tower:9981/static/mobile/index.html and you will have a neat interface.
October 28, 201312 yr Just to add the TVHeadend App works pretty well on iOS and Android for EPG view, remote record etc. No need to change server side setup just install the Pp and point to your TVHeadend install!
October 28, 201312 yr Does anyone else have an issue where TVHeadEnd will lock up about once a week? This is the second week in a row now that I cannot connect with XBMC to TVHeadEnd, I can use the QuickView application that came with my HDHomeRun and it works fine so it isn't the tuner. TVHeadEnd will show it Testing the connection and then it will say bad, this is under Status. Last week I rebooted my server, I had tried stopping just the TVHeadEnd program and also removing it and re-adding it. The only way it worked was after a full server boot, which I don't think is a good idea. Other than this, it seems to be working great. EDIT: It seems if I kill /usr/bin/userhdhomerun and TVHeadEnd, then restart them in the correct order that resolves the issue, I am still curious if this is just me. I am running the latest TVHeadEnd with unRAID v5.
October 29, 201312 yr Hi, I am thinking of buying the TBS6985 PCIe DVB S2 Quad Tuner, I see a lot of TBS tuners supported in the attached images of supported tuners at the start of this thread but not this particular model. Does anyone know if it will work with Unraid? I see other forums where people use this card without any issues with Tvheadend, just not on Unraid. Many thanks for a great plugin!

October 31, 201312 yr Reginald do you have VDR and tvheadend installed on the same box? Mack, I have only TVHeadEnd on the same box. I was somewhat interested in VDR but I was hoping to get TVHeadEnd stable first. Edit: I created a script to kill TVHeadEnd then UserHDHomeRun and restart them, I created a cron entry to run it every morning at 3 AM, it seems to help but I had an issue where even when restarting them manually and verifying that there were no extra processes it TVHeadEnd didn't seem to communicate with the UserHDHomeRun (normally when TVHeadEnd starts it will go through the Multiplexes and scan them, which is output to the console). If anyone has any idea, that would be great, I haven't been able to find much about this so I think I may be alone.

I was a little leery about killing the tvheadend and userhdhomerun processes manually and getting them restarted in the right order. If you wouldn't mind sharing your script and how to use it I would really appreciate it. I'm not looking forward to having to restart my server once a week to be able to watch live TV.

If you wouldn't mind sharing your script and how to use it I would really appreciate it. I'm not looking forward to having to restart my server once a week to be able to watch live TV. Sure thing, I found I had to do a bit more than just create the script and set up a cron job, I also had to edit my go file to copy the script into the /etc/cron.daily folder. I created a script called killtvhd in /boot/custom: sudo kill -9 $(ps aux | grep '[t]vheadend' | awk '{print $2}') sudo kill -9 $(ps aux | grep '[u]serhdhomerun' | awk '{print $2}') sleep 10 /usr/bin/userhdhomerun & sleep 5 && sudo -u root tvheadend -c /mnt/cache/apps/tvheadend -u root -g video -f 2>&1 >/dev/null Then I updated my go file: cp /boot/custom/killtvhd /etc/cron.daily/killtvhd sudo chmod a+x /etc/cron.daily/killtvhd unRAID automaitaclly has the scripts under the cron.daily folder run at 3 or 3:30 AM Even with this I only get a few days of TVHeadEnd before I have to reboot the server. I have no idea what I did to make it so unstable. I see most people on here saying that this thing "runs like a Trane" but mine has never worked for longer than a week. My next step to test is to use a RaspberryPi w/ OpenELEC to see if it will run longer with their plugins, if so I will order another one and put it inside my unRAID serve, as I already have USB ports inside my case.
November 14, 201312 yr ...Two people with the same issue! Can you both post what tvheadend version and what unraid version you are running?
November 15, 201312 yr ...Two people with the same issue! Can you both post what tvheadend version and what unraid version you are running? unRAID Version: 5.0-rc4 Pro License I'm not sure what the tvheadend version is, the build number is blank on the about screen, but I pull from https://github.com/W-W/unRAID/raw/master/tvheadend_mod.plg It's interesting, I just installed the plugin two weekends ago and I could watch live TV for about a week before it wouldn't connect. Here is the debug log if anyone is interested: http://pastebin.com/CpyXhZH0 I thought it had something to do with these lines: Nov 13 21:49:56 dvb: "747,000 kHz" on adapter "HDHomeRun ATSC", status changed to OK Nov 13 21:49:57 dvb: "747,000 kHz" on adapter "HDHomeRun ATSC", status changed to Faint signal Nov 13 21:49:58 dvb: "747,000 kHz" on adapter "HDHomeRun ATSC", status changed to No signal Nov 13 21:50:02 dvb: "747,000 kHz" on adapter "HDHomeRun ATSC", status changed to Faint signal Nov 13 21:50:03 dvb: "747,000 kHz" on adapter "HDHomeRun ATSC", status changed to OK Nov 13 21:50:04 dvb: "747,000 kHz" on adapter "HDHomeRun ATSC", status changed to Faint signal Nov 13 21:50:05 dvb: "747,000 kHz" on adapter "HDHomeRun ATSC", status changed to OK But I just found out it does that even when it is working. I'm not as smart as you guys, but I'm willing to test out some ideas. I definitely think it is related to the userhdhomerun drivers since it seems to affect me and Reginald who have HDHomeruns but not Mack who has a Hauppauge 1800. And I'm in the same boat as Reginald, I can view the HDHomerun streams just fine from the HDHomerun Quickview application, so we know the tuner isn't the problem.
November 15, 201312 yr ...Two people with the same issue! Can you both post what tvheadend version and what unraid version you are running? I am on: unRAID v5 Final tvheadend-20131004-i686-1PTr.txz Its so frustrating, when it works, it works great! But it tends to mess up as soon as I want to watch football. Haha I also tried tvheadend-20130831-i686-1PTr.txz same results.
November 18, 201312 yr Compiling a kernel is easy pops. Here are some instructions that might help you... You'll need to download this .tar file (courtesy of ddeeds) and put it on your cache drive. Bear in mind if you choose another location you'll need amend the commands accordingly. https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B396mkxPBhWrQmRoSjU3UFhyT00&export=download The hardest part is the make menuconfig part, just press ' / ' for search and look for TBS or whatever... Easy. How to compile and unRAID in minutes # Put the unRAID-dev.tar in /mnt/cache so you can cut and paste below. cd /mnt/cache tar xvf unRAID-dev.tar # Install all the Development Packages needed to compile a Linux Kernel cd /mnt/cache/.unraid-dev/dev-packages installpkg *.t*z # Move default linux-3.9.6p-unRAID out of the way so we can create a new one. mv /usr/src/linux-3.9.6p-unRAID/ /usr/src/linux-3.9.6p-unRAID_orginal tar -C /usr/src/ -zxvf /mnt/cache/.unraid-dev/dev-packages/linux-kernel-3.9.6/linux-3.9.6.tar.gz ln -sf /usr/src/linux-3.9.6 /usr/src/linux-3.9.6p-unRAID # Copy over the all the unRAID stuff into our new Linux Kernel cp -rf /usr/src/linux-3.9.6p-unRAID_orginal/* /usr/src/linux-3.9.6p-unRAID cp -f /usr/src/linux-3.9.6p-unRAID_orginal/.config /usr/src/linux-3.9.6p-unRAID/ # Install Kernel Headers for our new Linux Kernel installpkg /mnt/cache/.unraid-dev/dev-packages/linux-kernel-3.9.6/kernel-headers-2.6.33.4_smp-x86-1.txz # Select the Linux Kernel Options you want compiled in the kernel or as modules cd /usr/src/linux-3.9.6p-unRAID make menuconfig <--- This is where you select what you want in the kernel or not. * = Compile into the kernel M = Module # Compile Linux Kernel, Modules and install Modules into new Linux Kernel make -j4 bzImage <--- Set -j to the number of processors you have make -j4 modules <--- Set -j to the number of processors you have make modules_install # Compile new Linux Kernel to the new-bzfiles folder cp arch/x86/boot/bzImage /mnt/cache/.unraid-dev/new-bzfiles/bzimage # Preperation for new bzroot rm -r /mnt/cache/.unraid-dev/bz-mod <--- Just in case, remove old directory mkdir /mnt/cache/.unraid-dev/bz-mod cd /mnt/cache/.unraid-dev/bz-mod # unzip stock unRAID-5.0-rc16c bzroot into bz-mod folder xzcat ../unRAID-5.0-rc16c/bzroot | cpio -i -d -H newc --no-absolute-filenames # Copy any new modules you created into our new bzroot folder rsync -av --delete /lib/modules/3.9.6p-unRAID/ /mnt/cache/.unraid-dev/bz-mod/lib/modules/3.9.6p-unRAID/ # zip bz-mod folder into bzroot and copy to new-bzfiles folder find . | cpio -o -H newc | xz --format=lzma > /mnt/cache/.unraid-dev/new-bzfiles/bzroot I got a issue when compiling new 5.0.2 ! cant get my network card to work and many other things, but look at the attached image, this is after I extracted the bzroot , is this OK boot is linked to my flash ! its in this folder /mnt/cache/.unraid-dev/bz-mod/usr/local/emhttp the command I use to extract is the below one. xzcat ../unRAIDServer-5.0.2-rc1-i386/bzroot | cpio -i -d -H newc --no-absolute-filenames ?
November 18, 201312 yr it looks the same on extracted 5.0, so ignore above post!! that version I have compiled OK and booted fine before, so I do not know what is wrong now ?? Any one can help ? November 18, 201312 yr peter_sm, I'm fairly certain Tom removes things that are included by default in the linux kernel. If you run modprobe r8169 what happens? Balthazar, you are running quite an old version of unraid and tvheadend. Reginald, the only thing coming to mind is to check if your epg is properly updating. I manually update mine and if it runs out I run into some strange issues.

Guess I better carve out some time to update this badboy
