Also: the little File Browser next to the Storage location is a really good add in feature, so THANK YOU for that. Even with filesize indication, I donโt know how you came up with the idea for this plugin but this is legit better than most paid options out there. Kudos to you:)Thank you. Good to know the browser fix is working. ๐๐ป
July 24Jul 24 I forgot to mention this: Like a couple of days ago, I started a backup run of a roughly 500GB worth of music, 46000files, over a 1000 folders. Obviously it took ages to even hit the first 1%, thatโs not the point, however I needed to hard-stop Vault and restart it because it completely froze. I donโt know if itโs related to the amount of files and size or just that I was to impatient but for shits and giggles here are the diagnostics from the last days. Cheers :) vault-diagnostics-2026-07-24.zip

Thank you!But I'm getting hit with: write /mnt/cache/.vault-stage/backup-: no space left on device.I cannot see that my storage devices are full, so it leaves me to think that it is the default cache disk that is full?My unraid cache disk is a Samsung NVMe 256 Gig disk with about 70 GB space left on device right now... could it really be this on that gets filled up during backups?I'll throw in a few wishes here as well:Make folder exclusions globalI think adding support for folder exclusions through docker labels would be more dynamic and easier than the way folder exclusions are done todaypostgres / mariadb / mysql backup? Thanks again for your excellent workThanks for the feedback. ๐๐ป
July 25Jul 25 @PanicMechanic007I think you need to take another look at the Brave Browser Issue from a couple of days ago, โcause it appeared again today. Also: My Jobs keep failing and the large on failed after 17hours? Ish something.Diagnostics are attached.vault-diagnostics-2026-07-25.zipEDIT: Yesterday, so the 25th, I did a complete purge and re-install of Vault. Partially because I increased the size of the storage target and it seemed like, it had borked the backup files of all of the previous backups. And second because I thought it might help with the current, non connecting issue to the vault daemon. Eversince the 09 update, I can't connect to the vault page, both with the shortcut up in the unraid list and throught he "Connect to WebUI" in the settings of vault in the settings tab of unraid. It will keep display connecting like this: That's the current state of it and it is like that ever since the 09 update. From a MacBook or iPad, both Safari, it works perfectly. Just not on Brave. Through Firefox Developement Edition, it works fine too. Even tho both Browsers are pretty locked down when it comes to privacy settings so idk why's that. vault-diagnostics-2026-07-26.zipNewest diagnostics are attached, just for the sake of it but that's it. And also: Really sleek improvements over the last couple of updates. This is really coming together quite nicely :) Cheers Edited July 26Jul 26 by deltaexray
July 30Jul 30 Hi, I'm trying to use the replication feature, it connects, but doesn't seem to do much... is it still a work in progress?
August 5Aug 5 Hello @PanicMechanic007Sorry for the Spam on the Thread regarding the Vault Plugin but I've got a couple things on my mind and I think they would be a suitable upgrade to Vault: First of all: Could it be the case that the Widget for โLargest Backupsโ only displays the largest current BackUp? I have the feeling, as soon as the incremental backups kick in, the largest shrinks down to the last incremental BackUp Size. Second: The Deamon "freezes" or is not responding quite often, specially when there's a larger operation running. For example: 250GB mix of documents, photos & videos, pdfs and zips. Running that with standard compression algo and best size, so the smallest, the operation ran for 30hours without any progress beyond 2 out of 4. And I think that's not suppose to be. After I cancelled, the average upload speed was 49KB/s despite 65MBit/s available. So do think sometimes it freezes.Third: Is there a way to implement a, sort of, menu to select how much resources Vault is allowed to use? I.E make it use more when there's more available? Granted, if the code and the used algorithms allow said options.Fourth: I do think the Plugin needs to be a bit more "robust" when it comes to handling anomalies or cases of a 30Hour Backup with no progress. That's not a complaint or a front against you, it's the opposite, I do think this is a very very good plugin/solution that can be even better. So no hard feelings, more like love for you in every aspect :D Fifth: Current Diagnostics are attached, just a bunch of stuff from the last couple of days. I did do a complete purge of Vault and installed it new for a couple of reasons, mainly because it kept freezing and stuff but I do think that's more on me than on you. Bottom Line: Thank you for your work and the respective time you invest in it. So far it is running great despite a couple of issues but nothings perfect and we all love to tinker. Have a good day and CheersยดAlexEDIT: The Brave issue I, and I think one other user, was talking about has an easy fix: Delete the Website i.e Unraid specific website data from your browser. After that, Login again it Vault loads in a second. Idk what causes this issue but I guess when the WebUI of Vault reloads and u click to fast on something else, It kinda swallows its one connection / request? vault-diagnostics-2026-07-26.zip vault-diagnostics-2026-08-05.zip vault-diagnostics-2026-08-06.zip Edited August 6Aug 6 by deltaexray ReWrite
August 6Aug 6 Thanks PanicMechanic007 for this plugin! Having such an extensive backup solution integrated into Unraid, instead of using other docker container really makes things easier! After having conducted the first backups, I wanted to do a quick sanity check of the backup of my nextcloud mariadb container. Especially, I was curious whether the backup also contains the sql dump (as configured). After restoring the backup into a different folder, I was not able to find the respective sql dump - is there a specially location such dump is stored? I was not able to find any information on that in the documentation.Thank you for your good work!

I'll review how backup sizes are queried for the widget so that incremental runs don't overwrite the reported total size with just the latest delta.Scope & Troubleshooting: Just to set realistic expectations - Vault is a passion project built and maintained specifically for my own modest Unraid setup (a few basic containers). Because my home setup is pretty minimal, I don't have the infrastructure, synthetic test data, or remote storage destinations (like Koofr or Backblaze) required to reproduce or debug 250GB+ transfer stalls. While I'll keep general stability and resilience in mind for future updates, I unfortunately can't offer hands-on troubleshooting for individual environment or network bottlenecks. That said, the code is open source - so hopefully someone in the community experiencing similar upload bottlenecks can dig into the code, spot the bug, and submit a fix!Resource Controls & Robustness: Adding settings to cap/control resource allocation (CPU/RAM) and implementing better timeout or auto-recovery handling when a transfer stalls are great suggestions. Making the plugin more resilient against unexpected network/storage anomalies is on the priority list.Browser Note: I personally stick to Chrome and Safari so I haven't run into the Brave issue myself, but thanks for sharing that site-data workaround for any other Brave users who might hit it.Thanks again for taking the time to share your logs and feedback.Cheers!

Yeah I already thought that this is obviously a passion project but then again: The Scope is already quite large & up to a certain standard that rivals other programs and software alike. So no pressure in that regard, I guess no one has that amount of โtest-dataโ on hand when u just do something for fun and personally need. But, since this is open source, someone someday will most certainly to something about it. That would be great, both for usage and long term control. Resiliency is always a very well welcomed addition. I myself mostly use brave on windows and safari, well, on Apple devices so usually I find myself just using my Mac to do it. It just accrued to me that clearing website data also helps when the unraid webui itself freezes. Sometimes youโre simply not seeing the solution in front of you Again, You are the one we have to thank you, specially since this plugin is just the simple solution most of us want. Connect a FTP site, run the jobs and youโre good to go. Even if this would be a paid option, Iโd gladly pay the price. Just because itโs everything I want and need. That said: Thank you for yours time, work and patience, specially when someone throws a wall of text at you ;) Cheers, Alex
Thursday at 09:58 AM2 days @PanicMechanic007 Thank you so much again for developing such a comprehensive solution. What I love about it is it allows me to manage everything from a single app rather than having different solutions for databases, files, containers, ZFS datasets etc. It's also something I'm hoping my family will be able to manage in my absence.I wish I could contribute to the development with code, but I do not have the skills to unfortunately. I take the opportunity to remind the community we can say thank you to the developer with donations using the sponsor button here: https://github.com/ruaan-deyselAfter using the app for a while I came across of a few possible improvements:1 - FEATURE REQUEST - FUTURE JOBS QUEUEWhen the user triggers multiple actions (start backup jobs, delete backups, etc.) it would be nice to see which are the jobs in the queue. Sometimes I have the feeling the app is not working properly and then I realise it's just that the previous job has not completed yet. The progress of the current backup can already be tracked, but the rest of the jobs is not showing anywhere at the moment. Perhaps the History tab could show future jobs too (backup deletions, backup jobs, restore jobs, etc.)? And allow the user to remove them from the queue if the job has not been triggered yet?2 - ERROR - DATABASE DUMPSAt the moment an error is triggered on Postgres databases if the user is not named 'postgres', if I understand the logs correctly. I guess since this is meant for homelab use perhaps I should just name leave all the usernames as default, but I just wanted to flag it. Screenshot below.3 - ERROR - SECRETS BACKUPI'm not sure why I get an error when the app tries to backup the bind mount where my secrets files are stored. Again, perhaps this is an overkill for a homlab?4 - QUESTION - FAILURE TO BACKUP CONTAINERS WITHOUT VOLUMESThe app fails to backup containers that do not have volumes or bind mounts. Is this intended behaviour? It would be nice to have those backed up as well so I don't have to worry about backing up compose files separately etc. Or perhaps this is already covered by the boot media backup?5 - FEATURE REQUEST - RESTORING FILES FROM CONTAINER VOLUMESWould it be possible to restore single files from container volumes and bind mounts, as it already happens for folders? Or is it too much of a hassle for little reward since we could have a separate folders backup job for it?6 - QUESTION - DATABASES SKIPPED FROM CONTAINER BACKUPWhen a container's persistent data volume or bind mount contains a database, the app seems to notice it and it automatically excludes it from the backup. I suppose this is intended behaviour since databases are dumped separately. But I cannot see the usual checkbox to enable the database dump here, so I wonder if I stumbled upon a bug?In the example below, the bind mount "app/data" for the Gotify app contains more than just the database, so I'd love to be able to back it up.

That exact "why is this such a massive pain in the ass?" moment is literally the whole reason Vault was born. I just wanted one tool so I didn't have to play air traffic controller every time I wanted a backup.Really appreciate the support and feedback while I keep chipping away at it!Cheers!
18 hours ago18 hr Hi @PanicMechanic007 Quick Feedback/Observation: When I run a Incremental Backup without any Compression on it, the Status bar on the running Job stays a 0% all the time, even til the end. Could it be the case that the Widget, sort of, only jumps to 1% or more when the operation is finished i.e the Whole Backup Job is finished? If that's not the case it may just takes a lot of time, I just simply noticed that CheersยดAlex
