February 11, 201313 yr hi how far away or close from final version 5 are "we" since the are rc releases
February 11, 201313 yr Place two mirrors face to face and stand in the middle. Your reflection is both near and far.
February 11, 201313 yr A glas filled to the middle is both half-full and half-empty... (your guess is as good as mine)
February 12, 201313 yr A large mountain looks close while yet far away... A walk around the block is very far to an ant... It is all a mater of perspective. All this considered, the RC looks good enough for a test drive, and if it has the features you need/want, would probably be a good move even though it has not been finalized yet. Remember, a RC is already at the state that it is felt that it is ready for release as a fully endorsed version. So even though it is yet looking like the final date is unknown, I would not let that stop me from using the current RC in a new unRAID build and feeling good running it.
February 12, 201313 yr So even though it is yet looking like the final date is unknown, I would not let that stop me from using the current RC in a new unRAID build and feeling good running it. Indeed, lots of us are already running v5 on our live servers. Without our pioneering spirit, any issues wouldn't be discovered, and addressed, before the release goes final.
February 13, 201313 yr LOL I was hoping for at date for the final 5 release, but nice anwsers, I', just hoping that the Final version of 5 will come here in 2013 =P
February 13, 201313 yr LOL I was hoping for at date for the final 5 release I don't think that even Tom is able to give a date, and if he did it's almost bound to be optimistic. but nice anwsers, I', just hoping that the Final version of 5 will come here in 2013 =P We can all hope!
February 13, 201313 yr i think Unraid 5 release date is as elusive as Half-Life3. I wouldn't be surprised if Tom and Gabe are one in the same.
February 14, 201313 yr Hey, even duke nukem was released eventually!!! Not sure you want to compare the resulting product of the wait for Duke Nukem to version 5 haha!
February 14, 201313 yr Hey, even duke nukem was released eventually!!! Not sure you want to compare the resulting product of the wait for Duke Nukem to version 5 haha! Well, I have to say, NVIDIA did a great job on making that game 3D with their 3D glasses. As for the game play, I never beat it so I can't give a valid reply on that.
February 16, 201313 yr So instead of waiting for Final 5, what version should i then use for a stable setup? I "only" need the FTP for fileserver and Samba for my Boxee & XBMC =)
February 18, 201313 yr Currently (2013 Feb 17) I would say you might be better to use the 5.0-rc10-aio since it is still posted as an active download. If there had been serious issues it would have been removed when the newer 5.0-RC11 was released. My thoughts are that it has been in test by more users for a longer period than the RC11 release. It would be good to also read the release notes for RC11 to see if the changes are important to you or not. I really do not feel that either RC10 or RC11 would be a deal breaker though for your application. My 5.0 test machine is way back on RC8a and it is looking very good to me!
February 19, 201313 yr I'm using rc11 on my live server, hosting a critical (to me) mail server and holding all my mail files. The primary function, however, is holding, and serving, media files to my OpenELEC (XBMC) systems and my Squeezebox players. I have no significant problems with rc11.
February 21, 201313 yr While I am running on 5.0-rc8a. It runs fine for me and I have to many tweaks to want to upgrade yet. I am going to let the higher releases stew a little longer.
February 21, 201313 yr While I am running on 5.0-rc8a. It runs fine for me and I have to many tweaks to want to upgrade yet. I am going to let the higher releases stew a little longer. I might fall back to 5.0RC8a too, for testing purposes. Since I went to RC10 and later RC11 I experience an issue with two disks dropping of the ARC1200 controller. I wonder if there was a driver changed? It is rather annoying because these 2 disk are in a RAID0/RAID1 volume configuration for parity and cache disk.
