December 6, 201312 yr I have been waiting 72 hours for them to ship my reverse breakout cables. This completely unacceptable. I received this email today... "We are contacting you today to thank you for your recent order with Newegg. We truly value you as a customer and we look forward to fulfilling all your online shopping needs. Customer experience is our top priority and we want to be sure you receive the best possible service. Due to our enormous order volume during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the fulfillment of some orders is exceeding our normal 48 hour processing time period. Please know that we are working as quickly as humanly possible to process all orders. You should be receiving a tracking number soon. Any rush processing fees paid will be completely reimbursed with no further action necessary on your end. We sincerely appreciate your patience and are grateful that you chose Newegg. If you have any further questions or needs, please do not hesitate to contact us here. Sincerely, Newegg.com" No talk of a free shipping upgrade or any kind of compensation for them not meeting their agreements. Just talk of how they are too busy counting all the money they raked in to actually deliver. I cancelled my order and found the cables cheaper on EBay and they guarantee it will be here by Tuesday at the latest. Unfortunately every other part of my new unRAID system will be here tomorrow, so now I get to just stare at it all weekend unable to upgrade, migrate or use it due to not having these cables. Extremely frustrated with newegg. And wanted others to be aware of their delays.
December 6, 201312 yr Hmmm...AFAIK, I think this a honest communication from them and AFAIU they've issued this pro-actively without you filing a complaint beforehand. I can agree that goodies arriving late is an unhealthy situation, as I have been in that kind of shoes myself a lot. However I *think* you kind of overreacted on this..a bit As for you, wondering why there will be now compensation...well...did you ask?
December 6, 201312 yr Just get on chat with them after all of this settles. No need in getting upset about it. They are a great company with GREAT customer service. I have never left a chat session with them unsatisfied. I'm not sure if you shop at Walmart or not but it you do, you would appreciate customer service like neweggs.
December 6, 201312 yr Amazon is so much better when it comes to shipping. Delivering product. They haven been around much longer with more locations. ThenAmazon Prime membership is well worth $70 a year. If you haven't read about it or don't use if I can tell you from a few years of personal experience that Amazon Prime is much more dependable team newegg hands down The $70 a year gets you free 2 day shipping on anything amazon sells. This includes unraid components to cribs. They've just started something called prime fresh which is same day delivery for some items. Only in the LA metro area now in beta. Along with free 2 day shipping you have the option to upgrade to one day shipping for $3.99 per order. Oh yeah. Amazon Prime also includes free streaming similar netflix. Did I mention that Netflix is amazons web services biggest client. Netflix uses amazon to stream their videos. If you want to eliminate newegg shipping delays start buying off amazon. I moved away from newegg for the same reason. Newegg doesn't have the bandwidth to scale and handle as much as amazon. I got tired of the BS. I don't use newegg at all.
December 6, 201312 yr One more note about the benefits of newegg vs amazon. On a every time basis amazon pays for shipping of anything you return. I had to return a bad drive to newegg last year. Newegg was kind enough to offer me a label to return the drive. I was not happy that I had to pay for shipping for a defective product. This was my last transaction with newegg ci returned the drive to newegg and bought the same drive from amazon and got it the next day for free. I'm in San Diego so most of the time I get the product the next day of ordered early enough the day before. That's all I have to say about this. :-)
December 6, 201312 yr +1 amazon prime! Well worth $80 and you can invite up to 4 other family members. So split the cost between them and boom $16 a year for two day shipping and free shipping on returns and prices that compare to walmart,.. Why leave your house again?

Did you know, that if your package doesnt make it by the guaranteed date you can chat with amazon and they will extend your membership by one month. I can show you a tv wall mount that will be late every time you order it right now if you'd like. I bought two and I have two months extra

I bought two and I have two months extra Yes I have a couple of complaints in to Amazon as well as UPS. I have been waiting five to seven days for packages just sitting in their distribution center. And yes, I feel my original post was a valid complaint. You pay for a service you should expect the performance you pay for. If I slack at work I get in trouble, why is it that more and more we expect less and less of each other?
December 7, 201312 yr I came into this thread looking for a "good deal", and all I got was this t shirt.
December 7, 201312 yr And yes, I feel my original post was a valid complaint. You pay for a service you should expect the performance you pay for. If I slack at work I get in trouble, why is it that more and more we expect less and less of each other? Your analogy is flawed, they aren't slacking off, they just have more orders to process than they are actually capable of processing within their standard timeframe. To take your analogy a step further, if you have 4 days' work to do in one day, can you realistically achieve that, or is some of the work going to suffer? At least Newegg communicated with you, many other businesses wouldn't even do that. While I take on board your comments about paying for a particular service, I think too many people are losing sight of the reality of situations like this - a business like Newegg that operates on a much smaller profit margin than other industries are going to run into issues like this every now and then, especially during crazy times of year like Black Friday and Christmas. There isn't room to employ extra people because of said profit margins, so they just have to suck it up and do the best they can. Anyway, I'm sure people will appreciate knowing about the shipping delays, if nothing else.

To take your analogy a step further, if you have 4 days' work to do in one day, can you realistically achieve that Gee, if only there was some way for NewEgg to have predicted they would have higher sales on Black Friday, over the weekend, and on Cyber Monday. I mean after all, those massive sale events came out of left field. How were they to know when they were? How were they to know most consumers make purchases during those events? If only they had known about those sales events, then they could have sent out marketing material promoting those events. </sarcasm>
December 7, 201312 yr Knowing about a forthcoming event and being able to realistic deal with the impact are not necessarily the same thing. I'm sure Newegg was prepared for a very large volume ... and likely handled most of it very well. They can't, however, always predict the specific products that they may run out of ... nor can they reasonably (from a business sense) build up capacity to handle those very short-term events. Even Amazon -- who clearly DWARFS Newegg -- has occasional days when demand simply doesn't allow them to meet their expectations. I've ordered quite a few things from them over the years that resulted in apologetic e-mails about the shipping delays for my order. KNOWING that something's coming doesn't always mean you can reasonably be fully prepared for it, no matter how much in advance you know. Our church has very large, overflow crowds on Christmas and Easter Sunday every year ... but they haven't built a larger sanctuary just to handle those events. Although I assure you they are well aware they're coming every year; know for sure they'll have larger crowds than they can handle; add a couple extra services to help with SOME of it ... but still don't have room for everyone -- and I suspect never will.
December 7, 201312 yr One big problem with slow NewEgg deliveries is they use smartpost. Fedex can deliver the package to my local post office and it can sit for 3-4 days before the post office sorts it for delivery.
December 7, 201312 yr Author One big problem with slow NewEgg deliveries is they use smartpost. Fedex can deliver the package to my local post office and it can sit for 3-4 days before the post office sorts it for delivery. My big problem right now is with UPS. No matter if the package has come from Newegg or Amazon my packages have been delayed for a week, one has been lost. This is not a good time for ordering online. It's cool, though it's not like my customers need their parts on time... or that I am paying large SLA fees for breaches of contracts due to them not being able to deliver on their promises. </sarcasm> When you absolutely need overnight shipping to turn into two week shipping go with UPS.
December 7, 201312 yr Bottom. Line sounds like we've all had our share of issues with bother online merchants. One is larger and been around longer. Can handle more volume with world wide presence. The other is a tech focused retailer that is trying to keep up with the big gorilla. Newegg has attempted to get in to the retrial market with household items.and more. New egg has however decided to no give customers an easy way to ship, return or exchange items without coming out of pocket. Amazon does this clearly by selling volume at a best price San getting the product to its customers corn exit to zero out of pocket. For me the.consumer I'm not going to spend my money with a retailer that will not help the consumer. All the local retailers price their products using amazon as a reference. This way there's no need to match pricing. Best boy is one of them. Value or loyalty? I'm going with value. I don't care how long a retailer has been around. I'm not giving any money away to a retailer because they use nifty sales tactics. Shellshocker is a cool term bit not always the best value.
December 7, 201312 yr The $70 a year gets you free 2 day shipping on anything amazon sells. It gets you free 2 day shipping on MOST things Amazon sells. Not everything on Amazon is Prime Eligible. To be fair most things are, especially common items, but to say you can get free 2 day Prime shipping on EVERYTHING they sell is just flat out not true. I wouldn't want someone signing up thinking everything they could buy on Amazon qualifies. I'm not bashing Amazon at all, I'm a very satisfied long term Prime member. But I do buy from both Newegg and Amazon, depending on whomever has the better deal.
December 8, 201312 yr I came into this thread looking for a "good deal", and all I got was this t shirt. Did you think that NewEgg had finally got the much sought after delays in stock, and were finally shipping them?
December 9, 201312 yr I came into this thread looking for a "good deal", and all I got was this t shirt. Did you think that NewEgg had finally got the much sought after delays in stock, and were finally shipping them? It's hilarious. I liken it to someone complaining about long lines at Wal-mart or Best Buy during Black Friday sales, then expecting every $100 TV and $50 tablet to be in stock. If you don't want the extra wait, then shop when there aren't crazy sales, and pay a premium to get your items on time. Let's be realistic, people.
December 12, 201312 yr The delays didn't help their packaging any. I ordered the following drives on Cyber Monday finally got them last night with 3-day shipping (I think - the Seagates I ordered were the first to leave and were the USPS final leg delivery that I still don't have yet and these may have been suppose to go the same way and newegg upgraded it to 3-day): 1 600GB Refurb Raptor 1 4TB WD Black 3 4TB WD Red. Each of the 4TB drives came inside their new bubble wrap sleeves inside a box with more bubble wrap as packaging. The Raptor was inside a box (looked like a HDD controller box with foam padding on each side) so it may be ok. When I got the box it's exterior looked in good shape no really bad crushes on it. But the bubble wrap packing material was only on one side of the box and the drives were sitting on the bottom with no protection between them and the bottom. When I opened the manufacturer's anti static bag on the WD Black a piece of plastic fell out. It came from the plastic around the power connector and data connector. Not even trying to see if it works. One of the Reds is not even recognized by any computer I own. Another started up with an ATA error and is preclearing at half the speed of the other drive. So at least 2 drives completely non-functional and another that may be bad but will see after a few preclear cycles. The Raptor since it is a Refurb is getting at least 6 cycles the Reds my normal 3. I will probably only end up with a singe 4TB out of 4 drives and the Raptor when I am done. Disgusting Will see if the 5 4TB Seagates I ordered are have the same BAD packaging.
December 12, 201312 yr Newegg: Love them, but when you get used to their quick shipping, and they don't live up to it (it IS the holidays), I see how someone would get annoyed by that. Amazon: Probably the only reason I don't use them more, is that its often hard to figure out which item is coming from them, and which is coming from some random other online amazon store. And looking for something common, like 10' network cables, brings up SO MANY results I never know what i'm looking at. I'm not faulting them for having TOO much selection, it just drives me up the wall sometimes. I've also ordered items from amazon that I expected pretty quickly, and they take forever. Turns out it was someones online store, and I just didn't pay attention to it. I don't think Prime applies to everything you can buy from amazon.com, which also is why I havne't stuck with it. Anyway, I wanted to add this to perhaps make you feel a little better: I ordered an item from Macys.com. Good deal, but no free shipping since it wasn't over $100. Ok, the $10 won't kill me on shipping...oh i have to pay tax as well...ok fine, still a good deal. Three hours later (how long does it take to process an email!) I finally get my confirmation email, and it notes that it will ship out dec 16th. Ok, cool...hey wait a min, I ordered it on the 11th, and its going to take you FIVE days just to SHIP it, then its 6-9 days for delivery. I think a lot of brick & mortar stores need to go talk to some of these bigger online stores, and mirror their inventory/shipping/etc techniques. Some of them just suck at it.
December 12, 201312 yr Just FYI, for things like cables (as well as a number of other things) you can't beat the price, quality, fast shipping, and customer service of Monoprice.com. For example, their pricing is typically half or less than places like Amazon for Ethernet cables.
December 12, 201312 yr +1 on Monoprice for cables. By far the best source for cables except for a few specialty cables they don't sell.
December 12, 201312 yr +1 on Monoprice too. Also good for monitor stands. I also like CableWholesale, especially for larger projects. Good selection. Also, they have good tech articles on cabling. Free shipping on all orders over $50.
December 12, 201312 yr The delays didn't help their packaging any. This is a result of trying to push too much product out the door, too quickly, using questionable techniques performed by minimum wage workers. This makes me even more leery of trying to save that last $10 when buying delicate products. Ones time/frustrations has value too. Bob, please followup with reports on how Newegg handles this. I got lucky on my Black Friday purchases. All four drives I ordered from Newegg arrived in a reasonable amount of time and more importantly without damage.
December 12, 201312 yr Author Monoprice is amazing for cables. I bought 4 sets of SAS cables and they still arrived a couple of days late but that was the fault of UPS and USPS not Monoprice. Unfortunately the cables I need they don't sell. Reverse Breakout cables.
