February 9, 201412 yr I'll have to give this a try, I had created one previously using a method very similar to this, only difference was I didn't use 7-zip to repackage the file, I copied the files to the server and ran makepkg to create. I did notice there is one file included in the ubuntu folder, that was not in the unraid version, so I didn't include. Everything seemed to boot fine, but when i tried to run the media scanner, it wouldn't find new files. I'll have to try your method and include all files to see if this makes a difference! Update: This worked perfectly.... Since I only have mac at home, I didn't fully use 7-zip per your instructions. I used Keka to extract both 64bit ubuntu & 32bit unraid versions. For others with only access to OSX: Followed your steps right up to # 8 (using Keka instead of 7-zip) after which I did the following: 9. navigate to /boot and create a new folder called plex 10. copy the 4 unraid folders, boot/ etc/ install/ & usr/ from the modified unraid package to this folder 11.run command makepkg /boot/plex/PlexMediaServer-version.numbers.same.as.origional.file-unRAID-x86_64.txz 12. It will ask if you want to change permissions, select yes. 13. copy your newly created .pkg to the extra folder, remove the previous version & install the new 64bit version as you normally would. 14. enjoy!!
March 21, 201412 yr link doesn't work, for some reason the plex in my archvm keeps dropping and adding shows, so want to go back to the plugin route.
March 27, 201412 yr Has anybody tried the latest plexpass version, I've tried 2 attempts and both times i lose my scanning agents after....so its seems maybe something has changed slightly that doesn't allow for this anymore!!
March 28, 201412 yr Kode, Just follow the instructions from post #23 of this thread. Kryspy Thanks Kryspy, I ended up following the instructions like you suggested and my plex is back working as it should be
March 31, 201412 yr With the issues of 0.9.9.8 and 0.9.9.7 no longer being up on plex site....can someone please link to a pre made 64bit file (whatever latest version works) on dropbox please?
March 31, 201412 yr I still see 0.9.9.7 on Plex's download site. http://downloads.plexapp.com/plex-media-server/0.9.9.7.429-f80a8d6/PlexMediaServer-0.9.9.7.429-f80a8d6-unRAID.txz

April 3, 201412 yr getting round to trying this i get presented with a symbolic link choice. do i choose yes or no? root@Ruby:~# makepkg /boot/plex/PlexMediaServer-0.9.9.7.429-f80a8d6-unRAID-x86_64.txz Slackware package maker, version 3.14159. Searching for symbolic links: samba -> /etc/rc.d/rc.samba powerdown -> /usr/local/sbin/powerdown Making symbolic link creation script: ( cd . ; rm -rf samba ) ( cd . ; ln -sf /etc/rc.d/rc.samba samba ) ( cd . ; rm -rf powerdown ) ( cd . ; ln -sf /usr/local/sbin/powerdown powerdown ) It is recommended that you make these lines your new installation script. Would you like to make this stuff the install script for this package and remove the symbolic links ([y]es, [n]o)?
April 3, 201412 yr wait what? why are you using makepkg? Are you trying to make a 64-bit version? Those instructions are above.
April 3, 201412 yr following these instructions as i'm a mac user. i.e., moved the necessary files around and then to rebuild did the following: I'll have to give this a try, I had created one previously using a method very similar to this, only difference was I didn't use 7-zip to repackage the file, I copied the files to the server and ran makepkg to create. April 3, 201412 yr ahh gotcha. Well I guess the answer to your original question is: try both and see
April 3, 201412 yr oddly enough, it didn't ask the next time i tried it.... Doesn't work though, I get various segment faults after I try to start the service. Cannot put path locations in either. This is on beta4
April 3, 201412 yr Yeah. Makepkg modifies the original so it you said yes the first time then the next time it won't need to muck with the symlinks Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
April 8, 201412 yr i tried creating the plex pkg as instructed but it is simply not working for me. can someone re-post the plex file as the original one is no longer available. tx

Download available in 20 minutes. Have you tried the latest plexpass 9.9.9? Had some issues last night, had to stay with 9.9.7 on 6beta4.... for some reason plex wouldnt start with 9.9.9.... didnt get a chance to make a second attempt, my wife wanted to watch her shows!
April 20, 201412 yr Well I'm not sure if folks really are "working perfectly" or not because I've run across some issues that have only been resolved by making changes to the code of rc.plexmediaserver and plexmediaserverctl.php Here is the plex forums thread that I started (and am still just talking to myself) https://forums.plex.tv/index.php/topic/106842-possible-rcplexmediaserver-error-and-resetting-settingsini/ But the issue seems to be that the recent PHP changes regarding $_POST breaks the webgui such that you cannot start/stop PMS and settings.ini gets reset such that you have null values for $ENABLED and $PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_TMPDIR I also found two bugs (my strong opinion) in rc.plexmediaserver that only seem to rear their head if 1) you are installing for the first time or 2) when you are bit by the above mentioned webgui problem that resets settings.ini. I'm going to guess that is also the cause of some of the weird problems we've seen with folks thinking they need to set the Temp directory inside the Plex-webgui which should not be required. Finally I ran into a new problem I never had before when creating Franken-Plex from my win7 desktop. The directory path length was too long when trying to copy .\plexmediaserver into the unRaid-Plex folders. The solution, as noted in Step 5, is to make the path length you're dealing with as short as possible. Anyone working in a non-windows environment probably won't have to worry about this [shrug] Sooooo here are the three changes and one note you need before you create the tar and .txz files. Maybe the guy who made the script to automate the Franken-Plex process can add this to his script (I can't find the post / username). I suggest using Notepad++ to avoid any chance of making a non-linux compatible mistake. 1. Download and install 7-Zip on your Windows computer: www.7-zip.org Note: I have “Integrate 7-Zip to shell context menu” option in 7-Zip selected so I can just right-click a file or folder to easily extract or compress. 2. Download unRaid Plexpass release (there is currently only a 32-bit version available) 3. Download Ubuntu Plexpass 64-bit release 4. Use 7-Zip to extract both Plex archives, this will give you two .tar files 5. Use 7-Zip to extract both .tar files, making sure the files are unpacked to separate folders so they don’t overwrite each other Note: I suggest moving the four unRaid-Plex folders (boot, etc, install, usr) to the root of a harddrive ... do not put them in their own folder to avoid making the directory path any longer than necessary 6. In the extracted unRaid folder, navigate to \usr\local and delete the “plexmediaserver” folder 7. In the Ubuntu folder, navigate to \usr\lib and copy the “plexmediaserver” folder 8. In the unRaid folder, navigate to \usr\local and paste the “plexmediaserver” folder you copied from Ubuntu folder 8.1 In the unRaid folder, navigate \usr\local\emhttp\plugins\plexmediaserver and open plexmediaserverctl.php 8.2 Find line 9 which reads , [glow=red,2,300]parse_str($argv[1],$_POST);[/glow] and change it to [glow=red,2,300]#parse_str($argv[1],$_POST); [/glow]to comment it out 8.3 Save and close 8.4 In the unRaid folder, navigate to \etc\rc.d and open rc.plexmediaserver 8.5 Find line 8 which reads, [glow=red,2,300]if [ $ENABLED != "true" ]; then[/glow] and change it to [glow=red,2,300]if [ "$ENABLED" != "true" ]; then[/glow] ... note the added quotes 8.6 Find line 77 which reads, [glow=red,2,300]if [ $(readlink -f "$PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_TMPDIR") != "/tmp" ] && [ "$TMP_OWNER" != "$RUNAS" ]; then[/glow] and change it to [glow=red,2,300]if [ "$(readlink -f "$PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_TMPDIR")" != "/tmp" ] && [ "$TMP_OWNER" != "$RUNAS" ]; then[/glow] ... note the added quotes 8.7 Save and close 9. Navigate to the top level of the unRaid folder, and highlight all 4 folders (boot, etc, install, usr) and right-click and under 7-Zip choose “Add to archive” 10. Under Archive format, select “tar” and press OK 11. Select the .tar file you just created, right-click and under 7-Zip choose “Add to archive” 12. Under Archive format, select “xz” and press OK 13. Rename the new file with a “.txz” file extension, and add “-x86_64” to the file name to indicate it is now a 64-bit build: "PlexMediaServer-0.9.9.2.374-aa23a69-unRAID-x86_64.txz" 14. Install the 64-bit unRaid Plex package normally on your unRaid 6-beta server (copy to /boot/extra folder on flash device and either installpkg or reboot) Hopefully that helps some folks out, and someone else can double check my work. Again, you might not even know you have this "problem". I have upgraded like 3 versions of franken-Plex inside unRaid v6 with no troubles. But I've also never bothered start/stop PMS from the unRaid-webgui (or at all) since I loaded up v6. I've literally just made the new franken-Plex, run installpkg, and everything worked. Until today when I decided to first stop PMS before running installpkg. Then all hell broke loose and my lazy-Sunday-resume-writing-procrastination quest began!!! PS the blue (Ubuntu) and green (unRaid) color coding above is costmetic only to help to easily ID which set of files you are working on and the file locations that go along with them.
