PlexMediaServer for unRAID 6.0

Featured Replies

Nice one and very interesting jumperalex.

It's Easter, so I'm sure they will get round to reading it shortly. As you are a plexpass member you could always create a new topic in the plexpass only section if you get no response.

I'll give this a go tonight when I get home!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Well I'm not sure if folks really are "working perfectly" or not because I've run across some issues that have only been resolved by making changes to the code of rc.plexmediaserver and plexmediaserverctl.php

Well thank you for this however I followed it to a T and webgui just wouldnt Enable Plex Media Server: Yes.

so i downloaded the plex.txz kindly posted a few posts before your instructions and it enables.  we will see if it runs into any problems.

Really?  hmmm that is disappointing.  Just to be sure, did you refresh the page after changing between enables and and disabled?  My page doesn't refresh with the new status, but it is making the change.  A refresh shows the new status.  I just double checked again

Has anyone else had a chance to try this out?

I'm now on unRaid 6.0b5a and plex 0.9.9.10

No I haven't gone back to your suggestions but i am pretty sure refresh or not.  The one that is working seems to be ok so until I have issues I will leave as is.

I always seem to have issues when I try to sync movies, unraid and everything become unresponsive.  Even on unraid 5.

besides that based on your findings which you listed fixes to, what kind of issues will I be seeing with this frankeplex?

no issues that I know of.  It just works fine on the plex side of things even before the fixes.  The issue was always on the unraid gui side of it.  I recall 0.9.7 thru 0.9.9.9 were having scraper problems but they seem fixed now in 0.9.10 and I've been running it with no trouble for a good bit.

Anyone having problems installing can wait a few days and I'll have my Plex plugin ready for both Unraid versions. It will auto download and install the proper version and allow Plex pass versions if you have login credentials. ... However I don't have a Plex pass account so I'll need a beta tester when the plugin is ready. It will let you know when updates are ready and install them when you click update. Then you won't have to edit the .txz files manually anymore. ;)

I worked on this for a while last night unRAID 6.0b5a with Plex 0.9.9.7.429 following the directions posted here, as well as the already packaged version linked in this thread.

I could not get Plex to start.  Tried both "clean" versions, and versions with the jumperalex's fixes.  Tried refreshing the webGUI page as directed after starting Plex, still no luck.

In the webGUI I could not type in the Library and Temp fields.  I tired a clean Chrome install as directed.

With the fixes, I was able to manually edit settings.ini to set the directories.  With the fix, these would be remembered, and would show up in the webGUI fields, but still could not start Plex, still could not edit the fields.  Also tried setting ENABLED to "true" in settings.ini with no change.

I tried starting Plex from the command line as described in a thread on the Plex forum "rc.plexmediaserver start" (also tried "rc.plexmediaserver plex_start" as that seemed to be the function defined in the file) I got an error that the file or directory did not exist.

I would post a log, but no log entries are being made.  I reverted to unRAID 5.0.5 and the standard Plex 0.9.9.7.429 and everything worked.

@NerdCage: Can you watch your boot process to confirm that plex is being installed successfully?  It might go by quickly, but usually I am able to see if the install happens right.  Even though you have the gui (and even with my fixes), the actual binary package might not be installing correctly.  The fact that you are getting a "file does not exist" error with rc.plexmediaserver is what makes me ask.

And I have to ask just because you didn't say it explicitly: are you using the version you just download? or are you creating the frankenplex version?  I know you said you followed my instructions but you were referencing the "fixes" so I just want to be 100% sure that you are downloading 32-bot unraid-plex, 64-bit Ubuntu-plex, copying the plexmediaserver folder from Ubuntu-plex into unraid-plex, and using what comes out along with the few tweaks I suggest.

@PhAzE: you say it will autodownload the proper version ... that makes me wonder what version you are downloading for unrad 6?  I assume you are going ahead and grapping the plex and Ubuntu version and doing the merge in your script?  I just want to make sure because the way you say it isn't obvious, but I also assume any testing would have quickly shown the problem if you weren't.  I suppose your comment about editing .txz files might be my clue, but right now those need editing anyway just to fix the webgui :(

I tried the version speeding_ant posted (which already had the parse_str line removed completely)  I tried that both as downloaded and by adding the quotes to lines 8 and 77.

I also tried creating my own frankenplex as described.  Again with and without the edits, Plex will not start.

I will try again tonight and watch the boot process.  When I run installpkg it indicates that it installed successfully, though I get a warning that it was not created with makepkg.

hit me up tonight via PM to remind me to send you my copy of the frankenplex.

Or you could just wait till phaze uploads his plugin :P

It's up now ;)

Got it working!  Only thing I did different this time compared to last night was to uninstall Plex while still running unRAID 5.0.5.  Moved to 6.0b5a, installed the FrankenPlex package I had made last night, and... success!

Thanks for your help guys!

Trying to create Plex pass package but getting error - file not made with makepkg

Ok makepkg error is fixed line 8 and 77 error fixed but now im getting rc.plexmediaserver permission denied

anyone created 0.9.9.12 yet?

  • 1 month later...

Hi guys,

Maybe this is a good place to also ask this.  I searched and cant seem to find any info specific to my issue/proposed setup.

I have two unraid servers online.  One stores all of my movie, TV, music files, etc.  The other basically is just for misc backup and that is it.  However it is a bit more "powerful" as far as specs so I would like to run the plex server on that machine.

My question is how do i set up plex server to look to the other machine for files to add to the library.  In plex setup it seems to want to find the files on that same machine.

Can this be done?  Do I use IP addresses?  Or the common local lan path?  Or do I need to do something else?

Thanks for any help or further reading anyone can provide.  Running Unraid 6.0 beta 6 and using PhAzE's plugin.
