[Plugin] ControlR

sorry to have brought you in @EDACerton🙏, i was really referring to the underlying app, tailscale itself, which isn't fully open source (https://tailscale.com/opensource#faqs)

There's a misconception here. The base tailscale/tailscaled binaries that are installed via the plugin are open-source (they come from the repo that I linked, I've even submitted PRs for them to make things work better on Unraid).

The Mac/Windows/iOS GUIs aren't open-source, nor is the control server (although there is Headscale as an alternative there, which does work with the plugin). None of those components are installed on Unraid.

this is what i really wanted to point out: there's a closed source element in the loop of tailscale (the control server), i understand this is in line with the original concern from @Rysz

as you mentioned, you can run a headscale server and remove the closed source component

Sorry to have spawned such a discussion about this, glad that there's such diligent security mechanisms in place so thanks to everyone involved with that and for the hard work of all our contributing developers as well (including of this plugin). Glad to be a part of the Unraid community exactly for those reasons and many more. 🙂

It's honestly appreciated as I came to this thread because of the broken update and I'm glad to learn more about what's going on and knowing there are security mechanisms in place. I also hope there is a built-in API in the future where a plugin isn't required to make a powerful app such as ControlR.

this did work on my primary Unraid server.
But on my backup Unraid server it wont start, and i get no real error in log

See log.  (first Remove , then reinstall.)  i even tried to delete the controlr.conf after remove)

May 16 10:19:02 UNRAID2 root: plugin: controlr.plg removed
May 16 10:23:02 UNRAID2 root: plugin: creating: /boot/config/plugins/controlr/controlr-v2024.05.11a.tgz - downloading from URL https://github.com/jbrodriguez/controlr/releases/download/v2024.05.11a/controlr-v2024.05.11a.tgz

May 16 10:23:24 UNRAID2 sudo: root : PWD=/usr/local/emhttp ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/bash -c 'env PORT=2378 SHOW_UPS=true /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/controlr/controlr --port 2378'

May 16 10:23:24 UNRAID2 sudo: pam_unix(sudo:session): session closed for user root

Then i discoveren that the /boot/config/plugins/controlr/controlr.env  file was much larger (24B) on the backup unraid server. so i deleted the file on backup unraid server and started the controlr plugin from settings menu.  and it worked. ;-)

As far as i can see on my primary unraid server the file has no real content and is only 1B of size.

Hope this can help others.

When using the app I get the following error in the unraid logs:

[error] 10459#10459: *278035 FastCGI sent in stderr: "Primary script unknown" while reading response header from upstream, client: 192.168.110.25, server: , request: "POST /plugins/unassigned.devices/UnassignedDevices.php HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://unix:/var/run/php5-fpm.sock:", host: "192.168.8.2:8888"

ControlR, Unassigned Devices and Unassigned Devices Plus plugins are installed.
