So, is it reasonable to expect UnMenu 1.3 to run fine on 5b5a? I am mostly thinking of the new method for assigning disks. I guess I'll be trying it before any replies here, since I want Screen really bad for getting up in speed.

It will likely mostly run... but I can tell you I've not yet tested it, since I'm just now downloading 5.0beta5a.

May I ask here regarding one of the packages? I'm trying to install Screen from unMENU 1.3.7.1  (unmenu.awk: Version 1.4 Revision: 220) on 5b5a. I get an error with md5 checksum. Is there a log where I can see more info? The syslog doesn't show anything. Is md5 changed in 5b5a (I recall no probs on 5b4) or is the package actually changed, or do I have a serious transmission problem (tried several times already)? The below output looks like suck, that's what you get for cutandpasting the text from the webpage. Is the displayed checksums the actual sum from downloaded package or the sum for what is supposed to be downloaded?

Those are the expected MD5 checksums.

You can usually look in the downloaded file to see what was returned from the download attempt.  Often it will describe the error encountered.

I just installed 5.0beta5a here this morning.  unMENU's package manager still seems to be functioning, and the md5 checksums still work as expected.

Ok, what I had was a binary file of some kind, 325 k of it (the less output on that file won't make many people happy).

-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 325646 2011-02-28 13:07 screen-4.0.3-i486-1.tgz*

I dled from http://slackware.oregonstate.edu/slackware-12.2/slackware/ap/ on my laptop and put it on the flash with SMB. Now I have

-rwxrwxrwx 1 root root 574993 2011-02-28 13:32 screen-4.0.3-i486-1.tgz

and if iI check I have the md5 3324c7186eb578f6be711f3a96249598 which at first glance looks fine. And unMENU agrees with me on that. Did the same with the second file and I could continue the install as usual after that.

So it seems my dls are broken. Is there any way to debug why? I don't seem to have probs like this on the other PCs on this router. I guess wget is used for downloads. wget with the url in the gui gave me a working copy of the file.

Typically the contents will say the downloaded file does not exist and you ended up with an html message stating the actual cause.

You can try using

wget -O utempter-1.1.4-i486-1.tgz http://slackware.oregonstate.edu/slackware-12.2/slackware/a/utempter-1.1.4-i486-1.tgz

on the linux command line and see how it acts on your server.

You may not have the DNS server defined.  or the network gateway.

As I mentioned before, what I got was an binary file of about 350k, I could see no similarity to any error messages there. I'd say it was an truncated download there. Can I use diff or something to check that?

Below is the output from your suggested command. It seems the file downloaded that way is good. But when I try to dl from the GUI I still get bad files (last try was ntfs-3g). Of course I deleted the present file before testing. I'd say my network settings are ok. I can totally understand if there is no mechanism for debugging this stuff built-in, but if there is anything I can try to pinpoint the problem I'll do my best. I guess you just call wget -0 from the script when needed. Why would that differ from calling it from the command line?

You guess wrong.

wget did not yet exist as part of unRAID when unMENU's package manager was originally written.  "wget" was not added for quite a while actually, not until unRAID itself needed it for its own purposes.  It was an unRAID user who wrote the basic code to perform the equivalent of "wget" in awk, the language the package manager is written in.

I too wish there was an easy way to diagnose what is happening, but there is not.  a truncated file to me seems to indicate a problem with your networking.

yup, it is a little over 6 Meg.  should not take too long unless you are on a dial-up line.

Is the file being written to /boot/packages ??

If not, kill the process and let it try again.

Hi Joe,

I have been using unMenu for a while without any issues, thank you. After upgrading to V5, I have started to have the following line in my syslog:

"unmenu[4249]: bad method -   975860 92658511 749069953  9922210        9        3       96       90        5  3339410  9922310975860-^M"

Thereafter, it is repeated for hundreds of times.

I am having also figure 1311 in addition to 4249 in the brackets.

In order not to keep the log file populated, I had to kill the unmenu process.

What does this indicate and do I need to worry about it?

Regards.

You have a Dell computer on your network that is probing unRAID. if you hut the dell off then the "errors" will stop.

I do not have any Dell computer but a few PCs. I am having hundreds of these errors even after turning off the Win based computers. Could it be my router or the access points (the previous Netgear firmware did probe the network, however, now only running DD-WRT on these)? ps: I have gone through this as well to no avail.

Last night I was able to get unMENU to check for and install update.  And I have installed the "Clean powerdown".  Now my question is, an maybe its a little dumb, but which of these will use the "clean powerdown" script so that all process, like cache_dir are stopped?

1. Powerdown button in unMenu userscripts

2. Powerdown button in unRaid web interface

3. Powerdown command at console

4. Ctrl-alt-delete

5. Computer's hard button

I had this similar issue, and it was caused by my wife's laptop.  It was a dell, not sure if that had anything to do with it or not.  But, the bad method did occur only when it was on, and only between the hours of ruffly 7am and midnight.  And they would be about 11 to 15 minutes apart in occurrence.

I had given up trying to narrow down the true cause, and just lived with it.  But then fortunately, my problem did stop when her computer failed, and I did a total reinstall windows and drivers, without any of the added dell (crap-ware) junk.

You might check your router's log and see if is showing what is trying to be accessed.  That might give a clue to what is the cause.

If I kill the unMenu, these messages disappear, though. Does unMenu logs more thoroughly than the main UnRaid? I am still trying to find out the computer which is probing the network? Is there any command line script with which I can find out the IP of this client? Finally, this started to happen after going to v5 beta, at the same time I started to use AFP shares? Sorry for asking many questions, but I simply cannot sort this out.

I try to check and install new updates for unMenu. I got the following error message:

"Downloading myMain_local.conf

rev $Revision: 182 $ $Date: 2010-12-04 08:15:52 -0500 (Sat, 04 Dec 2010)$

Local myMain_local.conf file exists, /tmp/unmenu_tmp/myMain_local.conf not installed.  You will need to delete the local file first before the new will be installed."

Then I log using console and remove this file from /tmp/unmenu_tmp/ and check the directory and confirm that there is no "Main_local.conf" at the directory. Try to run the install unMenu updates, and get the same error message. Then I check the directory again and see it is there, delete once agin and it appears again even though I get the same error saying it cannot be installed.

What am I doing wrong?

Delete or rename the file

/boot/unmenu/myMain_local.conf

It is the one that needs to be updated.  The one in the /tmp/unmenu_tmp directory is its replacement and is the one that was not installed.

Since /boot/unmenu/myMain_local.conf might have been modified by you, it is not replaced automatically.

Joe L.

myMain_local.conf contains your personal settings for myMain. This includes you drive attributes, view settings, image server, and others. Once you get the initial copy during install, you are not supposed to get updates to this file, otherwise you will lose your settings!

I'm having he same issue.  Just installed beta6a and the latest unmenu.  It seems I can't download any packages without the "NOT matched - download may be corrupted or download URL no longer valid" message.  I can download in windows and copy to the flash and it works fine.  But downloading from the package manager isn't working for me either.  I will do some additional testing tomorrow and post results.

Hi Joe L.,

Is it possible to exclude files for being checked for update?

For example I deleted a couple of users scripts I don't need to make my screen more clean, but all these scripts are getting re-downloaded on updated. Is there any way to avoid this?

Thank you!

You could try replacing the unwanted files with ones with the same name but with only one line:

#AUTO_UPDATE=NO

I've not tried it, but that will probably do it.

Yes, it is working. That was easy :)

Thank you Joe L.
