unclean shutdown cache drive not unmountable

I came home to a completely locked up server. web portal was down and i was forced to hard power down. after a reboot, both of my cache SSDs are listed as unmountable. 1 (sandisk(sdf)) is listed under cache drives still and the other (samsung(sdg)) is listed in unassigned devices.

I tried following this guide but got the following errors:

root@server:~# mount -o recovery,ro /dev/sdf1 /x
mount: /x: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdf1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error.

root@server:~# mount -o degraded,recovery,ro /dev/sdf1 /x
mount: /x: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdf1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error.

ideas for what i might try next?

i left the machine on in safe mode and came home to another completely frozen server

I'd start looking for hardware issues at this point. See if the server can complete 24 hours of memtest from the unraid boot menu. Check for failed / clogged fans.

Complete lockups in safe mode generally aren't software.
