On latest, VNC isn't connectable, I get a connection refused message in my browser.  Reverting to 2.16.2-1-05 fixes it.

Hex-chat appears to have some fundamental design issues where the UI interface is in the same process loop as disc access.  If you are downloading to a busy disk, the UI can become unresponsive.  I don't notice the issue when on an SSD drive but if you have platters, it can be tempermental.  Faster disks definitely help but watch out for other tasks accessing the same drive as well.

Hello, although I have Unraid I don't use the built-in docker capability and so I run binhex/hexchat on a Linux VM running on top of Unraid instead.

I had it working fine for a few months until late December - I'm not sure if a recent update to either the docker container or my own Linux system is giving me trouble or what is going on.   When I attempt to connect to noVNC with Firefox I get:

noVNC encountered an error:

TypeError: (intermediate value).setup(...) is undefined
http://localhost:6080/app/ui.js:1774:6
@http://localhost:6080/app/ui.js:1774:6

I've uploaded the Hexchat container logs after censoring the password.

Thanks in advance for any analysis.

That's exactly what it was - I had done a clear cookies/site data for that tab but had to go in and do a clear cache in Firefox settings.   Thank you!

Everytime I want to start this container I get the following error message. There are no logs I can view so I am a bit clueless on what to do to solve this problem. Maybe you can give me an advice or even a solution on this. I am not sure what information you need to help me but if you do feel free to ask.

Yes, same for me - is there any solution for this?

It even sometimes gets so bad, the hexchat itself becomes unresponsive and the network connection times out, upon unfreeze, it will re-connect/re-join channels, which will detect me as clone and usually auto-ban.

EDIT:
For anyone coming here with the same problem, the following basically eliminated any UI stuttering or freezing completely:

  1. Download to an SSD/Cache first, if you MUST download to a HDD directly, consider if you can write to a disk that does not involve parity calculation (any additional overhead is to be avoided since hexchat UI will stall until IO operations complete)

  2. Due to my own stupidity I had the file activity plugin active and running in the background, this was leading to a lot of overhead and could also be seen in periodic CPU spiking where processes like inotifywait" and "inotify.file.ac" would top anything else.

Hope this helps.

@binhex doesnt connect to VNC on unraid 7.1.2. what is the fix?

  • 3 months later...

When downloading files via XDCC, I have the app configured to move files from /incoming/downloads to /incoming/downloads/complete

This works fine except that it appears that Hexchat does not properly close the files after it moves them. If I move the downloaded file to another location, .fuse* files are left behind until I restart the hexchat application.

My download location is a ZFS pool and I am moving the files to a cache-only share on an XFS formatted nvme drive. The issue also happens if I merely try to delete the file while Hexchat is running. I don't seem to have this issue if I move/delete files from the downloads directory (for an aborted download, for instance), only when the app moves the files once they are complete.
