DrJake
Hi all, I'm new to UNRAID. I stuffed an old server with all my hard drives and retired my synology nas from 2012... I'm beginning to like UNRAID and like its design principles, but to be honest was not expecting this many issues... I've been running UNRAID for about 2 weeks now. The parity drive ran into some unknown issue about a week ago, did a rebuild, seems fine now... No data lost, phew. Today, one of the data drives encountered error, and the whole computer started beeping... It's currently disabled, and I ran a SMART test under maintenance mode. See report below, does this mean the drive is broken? and should be replaced? smartctl 7.1 2019-12-30 r5022 [x86_64-linux-4.19.107-Unraid] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-19, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Model Family: Seagate Barracuda Green (AF) Device Model: ST2000DL003-9VT166 Serial Number: 5YD392L4 LU WWN Device Id: 5 000c50 03819a8da Firmware Version: CC32 User Capacity: 2,000,398,934,016 bytes [2.00 TB] Sector Size: 512 bytes logical/physical Rotation Rate: 5900 rpm Device is: In smartctl database [for details use: -P show] ATA Version is: ATA8-ACS T13/1699-D revision 4 SATA Version is: SATA 3.0, 6.0 Gb/s (current: 3.0 Gb/s) Local Time is: Sun Apr 19 22:42:57 2020 AEST SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. trurl
Since you are reusing old disks you should post your Diagnostics so we can check out the rest of your setup. Go to Tools-diagnostics and attach the complete Diagnostics zip file to your NEXT post. The disk in question should be showing SMART warnings on the Dashboard. Do any of your other disks show warnings? You should setup Notifications to alert you immediately by email or other agent as soon as a problem is detected. Quote Link to comment
DrJake
@trurlAttached the diagnostic zip. The disk in question is Disk 2. On Dashboard it says "healthy". There was really no warning to this problem... Did some browsing before posting, seems like my only option now is to replace Disk 2 with another HDD of equal or bigger size, is that right? tower-diagnostics-20200419-2331.zip Quote Link to comment
trurl
Are you sure you're looking at the Dashboard page? That disk should be showing a thumbs down. On mobile now so will look at Diagnostics later. Quote Link to comment

Only up to 4TB, as that is the size of your parity drive, and parity must always be the same as or larger than the largest data drive Quote Link to comment
DrJake
thank you guys. I'll do that Quote Link to comment

If you go to Main and click on the disk to get to its page, then go to Attributes, you should see that attribute highlighted. Quote Link to comment
