jmbrnt
Today when I went to use the web interface for Plex, Firefox asked me to enable DRM features. Yuck. Not keen at all. Apparently it's something to do with Plex partnering with Warner Bros. I am increasingly aware that Plex isn't the media streaming solution for me any more - but where can I go? What do you use, if not Plex, and how does it compare? I use Plex mainly on iPad, PS4 and the PC (web) very rarely. Quote Link to comment

jmbrnt
I admit I don't really know what 'DRM features' in Firefox actually means, but here is this: https://forums.plex.tv/t/why-does-plex-web-request-drm-support/490361 Quote Link to comment
gacpac
I don't use Firefox myself. Only the apps so far. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk Quote Link to comment

Hoopster
Interesting. I have never seen the DRM warning in Firefox. I use the Plex app on all my devices, including PCs, and it has been quite a while since I logged into Plex via Firefox or Chrome. Just tried it on Firefox (had to log in again), but no DRM prompt and no issues; seemed to work fine. Quote Link to comment
kizer
I’ve not seen a DRM message either. Quote Link to comment
jmbrnt
I have only seen this DRM message on Linux (Budgie 20.20) using Firefox. Still gives me the heebie jeebies Quote Link to comment
Skatman
I'm in a similar position but with a different reason behind looking to change. However, this could well be another nail in the coffin. Here is the reason why I'm looking into changing - probably to Jellyfin. Basically, Plex has automatically, without permission, and only mentioning it as an addendum at the bottom of the release notes, changed the portal from a login screen to display their content automatically. This makes it look as if you are hosting all of this content from your server and goes against a load of ISP ToS. I've messaged their CTO who has said he's looking into it internally, but I'm concerned about what the 'solution' will be. I'm not happy with it remaining as is and wont be restoring Plex until it is changed. Edited November 16, 2020 by Skatman Quote Link to comment
