  1. The move is finally complete - we're now in Fort Collins, CO, and I must say, what a great place this is! Until all the business details are sorted out, as of today, all products will be sales tax free.
  2. Sorry I haven't been around the forums much in the last couple of weeks. We are in the process of moving from CA to CO. It will be one more week before I can get to every post, but will try to address the more urgent support issues sooner. Thank you for your patience!
  3. Make sure WOL is enabled in the bios.
  4. Man that's great news and has saved us a lot of time. Thanks for you help in tracking this problem down!
  5. Download. This is the first "patch" of a final release. The only changes between 4.2 and 4.2.1 are: - use Samba version 3.0.26a - change version string from "4.2" to "4.2.1" This should hopefully fix the problems reported in this thread. Please post in this thread if this release fixes those problems. unRAID Server 4.2.1 Release Notes Upgrade Instructions (Please Read Carefully) -------------------------------------------- If you are currently running unRAID Server 4.2-beta1 or higher (including 4.2 'final'), please copy the following files from the new release to the root of your Flash device: bzimage bzroot If you are currently running unRAID server 4.0 or 4.1, please copy the following files from the new release to the root of your Flash device: bzimage bzroot syslinux.cfg menu.c32 memtest This can be done either by plugging the Flash into your PC or, but copying the files to the 'flash' share on your running server. The server must then be rebooted. If you are currently running unRAID Server 3.0-beta1 or higher, please follow these steps to upgrade: 1. Referring to the System Management Utility 'Main' page, make a note of each disks's model/serial number; you will need this information later. 2. Shut down your server, remove the Flash and plug it into your PC. 3. Right-click your Flash device listed under My Computer and select Properties. Make sure the volume label is set to "UNRAID" (without the quotes) and click OK. You do NOT need to format the Flash. 4. Copy the files from the new release to the root of your Flash device. 5. Right-click your Flash device listed under My Computer and select Eject. Remove the Flash, install in your server and power-up. 6. After your server has booted up, the System Management Utility 'Main' page will probably show no devices; this is OK, navigate to the 'Devices' page. Using the model/serial number information gathered in step 1, assign each of your hard drives to the correct disk slot. 7. Go back to the 'Main' page and your devices should appear correctly. You may now Start the array. If you are installing this release to a new Flash, please refer to instructions on our website at: http://www.lime-technology.com/wordpress/?page_id=19 Changes from 4.2 to 4.2.1 ------------------------- Bug Fix: use Samba version 3.0.26a
  6. Good job! Yes, you can easily remove the top multi-function module and use the slot for other purposes. Turns out, you don't really need a power switch - if you want to power down, you can do it via the System Management Utility. To turn it back on, just turn the power supply off then back on again via it's switch.
  7. Probably is a bios problem. Check for bios updates from the Asus site.
  8. Welcome to the club of those trying to find the perfect rack mount solution! Of these: 1. Inexpensive. 2. Quality drive carriers. 3. Able to hear someone talk to you with it in the room. Pick 2 and you can find it. Actually, the best solution so far is our own MD-1500/AO-R. Advantages: - Inexpensive. - Quality drive carriers. - Able to be quiet with fan controller option (but not silent). - Locking door - Air filter - Extremely high-quality case - Less deep (24" vs. most rack mount cases which are 26" deep) Disadvantages: - Takes up 5U - Still too deep (like to be less than 20") - Relatively heavy because of all the steel (case plus drive cages) - Has a floppy drive (!). Of course you could ditch the floppy and put something else in there. I'm in the process of putting together a "components" page on our website where we will offer many server components, including the H800 at very good prices.
  9. The "nc5000" is Netcell "Revolution". If you still want to try to use that card, I'll try to get the driver into the next beta build (4.3-beta1).
  10. Download. Here is release 4.2 "Final". We have been shipping this with new servers for a couple of weeks now and everything is stable on the h/w platform we're using in the MD-1500. We are also trying something of an experiment with this release. We decided to disable "User level security" in the Basic (free) version of unRAID Server OS. This feature is enabled in both Plus and Pro versions. Whether or not future features are omitted from Basic version remains to be seen. Sorry to you NFS guys - I wanted to post 4.3-beta1 at the same time as 4.2 'final', but due to continuing work on our main website, it will have to wait a few more days. Also, regarding some of the outstanding issues in 4.2, e.g., Realtek driver, we are waiting for the next major linux release (2.6.23), which should be out any day now. Finally, again thanks to everyone who continues to help shake out bugs in the software. unRAID Server 4.2 Release Notes Upgrade Instructions (Please Read Carefully) -------------------------------------------- If you are currently running unRAID Server 4.2-beta1 or higher, please copy the following files from the new release to the root of your Flash device: bzimage bzroot If you are currently running unRAID server 4.0 or 4.1, please copy the following files from the new release to the root of your Flash device: bzimage bzroot syslinux.cfg menu.c32 memtest This can be done either by plugging the Flash into your PC or, but copying the files to the 'flash' share on your running server. You may now Start the array. If you are installing this release to a new Flash, please refer to instructions on our website at: http://www.lime-technology.com/wordpress/?page_id=19 Changes from 4.1-beta4 to 4.2 ----------------------------- Bug Fix: fixed SMU password-prompting broken in 4.2-beta4. Misc: restrict User level security feature to Plus and Pro versions only. Changes from 4.1-beta3 to 4.2-beta4 ----------------------------------- Bug Fix: initial create of a User share was ignoring configured parameters, causing the share to be created using "High-water" method with null Included/Excluded strings. Bug Fix: if a share Export mode was set to "Export read/write, hidden", then it would indeed be exported as read/write, hidden, but the System Management Utility would show it's setting as "Don't export". Bug Fix: if the Time zone was set to something other than "(custom)", the time zone abbreviation was displayed wrong. Improvement: increased some maximum sizes: - for a Share name: 80 characters (Windows maximum permitted) - for a Share comment: 256 characters (Windows maximum permitted) - Included disks, Excluded disks: 256 characters - for Exceptions, Valid users, Invalid users: 256 characters Note that the total lenth of a User share file path can not exceed 240 characters. Improvement: now possible to specify a range of disks in Included disks and Excluded disks. For example: "disk1-4, disk6, disk10-11" Improvement: de-coupled root login from User share security mode. Now if the root password is not blank, then we prompt user for password when opening System Management Utility webpage, if root password is blank, then there will be no password prompt. Regardless, telnet login will prompt for password, which can be blank. For both SMU and telnet, only the user 'root' can log in. Improvement: added Marvell SATA driver Changes from 4.1-beta2 to 4.2-beta3 ----------------------------------- Improvement: changed method for spinning up drives - should be more reliable. Improvement: added lastest Realtek r8168 driver verion 8.003.00. This is the Linux device driver released for RealTek RTL8168B/8111B and RTL8168C/8111C, Gigabit Ethernet controllers with PCI-Express interface. Changes from 4.1-beta1 to 4.2-beta2 ----------------------------------- Bug Fix: don't create User shares from ordinary files found in the root of each disk. Bug Fix: correct problem where Windows would complain about "directory not found" when deleting a directory in a User share. Bug Fix: do not any user except 'root' log in to the console or telent. Changes from 4.1 to 4.2-beta1 ----------------------------- Improvement: added users and passwords support Improvement: full User Share support Improvement: added buttons to the Main page to immediately spin up or spin down all the hard drives. Also moved "Clear Disk Statistics" button to the Main page. Bug fix: Fixed code assertion bug handling disk errors. Misc: upgrade to linux 2.6.22.5 kernel. Misc: upgrade to Samba 3.0.25b. Note: after upgrading to this version of Samba, some users have reported that even though they can see their shares, Windows reports that the share is not accessible. This can be remedied by re-booting your Windows PC. Misc: added "-p port" option to emhttp executable to change the port that the System Management Utility listens to from the default '80'. Misc: added a boot menu with option to start "Memtest86+" - an open source x86 system RAM test suite. Refer to http://www.memtest.org/
  11. We have a number of website changes in process. And I agree, our web host is not very good (powweb) - we're open to suggestions.
  12. We are very much interested in supporting the OS X folks. I have a buddy in the video editing business who uses unRAID for video projects. His shop is all Final Cut pro. I'll try to get over there soon to see how to integrate the linux AFP support. A question - how well supported is NFS in OS X?
  13. Yes there is a linux implementation of AFP. It's something we would like to implement; however, the file name problems may be a bug, so I would like to see examples of names that are giving you trouble.
  14. The AMS (aka, ISTAR) racks have somewhat non-standard mounting holes. I don't suspect this will be a problem in the Stacker, but something to be aware of. Also with this rack, and all 5-in-3 racks, you must pay special attention to the length of the mounting screws. If they are too long they will interfere with the leftmost hard drive, or scrape the top of it as you slide it in. (Also please look at your P.M.)
  15. You only need to connect 2 power connectors to each rack: - either 2 SATA power connectors, or - 2 4-pin connectors, or - 1 of each Probably it would work just fine with 1 power connector of either type. You don't need to use the eSATA connector to get to 15 drives (7 on mobo + 8 on 2 PCI cards = 15). Locking cables work and are recommended. Yes, using the stock fan. Another rack to consider is this Supermicro.
  16. The 16'th drive would have to be external eSATA, although it's possible to take a eSATA-SATA cable and route it back into the case.
  17. Interesting solution - I wasn't aware that was possible. BTW, how did you contact Asus tech support?
  18. Could be running out of memory - 4.2 is more efficient at User share memory management that previous releases.
  19. This is a common problem. I believe that card has a "Force FDD" mode for USB Mass Storage - if so, try that. The Flash will then show up in the list of Removable devices and you will be able to select it for boot.
  20. [RobJ - I moved this post here] This will do the job, but beware the device identifier, eg, '/dev/sda', is difficult to match up consistently with particular disks. You can look at the Devices page to see how they get assigned. Also no guarantee this will keep working in the future
  21. Good news is there are no h/w errors being logged; bad news is, if it is a h/w problem, may be difficult to diagnose. Here are some things to try: - Turn off User Shares and see if system is still unstable. - Download latest 4.2-beta4 and see if system is still unstable.
