  1. hi! got a new drive coming this afternoon to add to the array. i want to remove two drives from the array once it is added [8in, 2x 2out = 4upgrade] what is the best method to achieve this, add drive to system, run pre-clear. add to array. i have Parity drive as well. never removed drives from an array before, only added! cheers!
  2. Hi! I’m running a Win10 VM and would like to be able to pass through a USB header from the motherboard which has my Corsair water cooler and NZXT fan controller attached to it so I can manage them within the VM instance. I thought I had managed to do it as I got the NZXT fan controller to appear in Win10 and setup but I’ve never managed to get it back after a reboot. Any advice would be appreciated.
  3. Just setup my old acquired APC UPS. connected via serial straight onto my motherboard header. Used the APC manual link on the UPS settings page to guide me on pin outs. works perfectly and does a clean shutdown based on my settings.
  4. Zerotier container. or google chrome browser Remote Desktop.
  5. Q. issue with that is i cannot access remotely the VM when it hibernates. How would you overcome that?
  6. Was an XBMC user back in the day. then Sky UK released NowTV boxes for £10 a piece. (A Roku box with remote) you could side load something called Plex on it to stream with it. so I put it on it. Software that could manage my media and mean XBMC on each device didn’t have to scan/scrape all my media??? I played films on it and it buffered constantly. G620T CPU couldn’t keep up. Maybe XBMC was meant to be? CPU usage on “server” was 100%. So I bought and i3 CPU of eBay and suddenly, everything played perfect and “transcoding” was possible. then I moved house. Got gigabit internet (2014) and 20-30 users on NowTV boxes streaming. bought a PlexPass when they were half what they are now. moved house again and now use AppleTV boxes for clients. then 3 weeks ago did the biggest change. Installed unraid. Plex, GPU transcoding using Ram, SSD for metadata and Unraid as the host OS? Couldn’t be a better combination in my opinion. Kodi, as lovely as it looks. Centralised media management is a must.
  7. Thanks. Will give it a whirl. I used MC to delete the folders.
  8. thanks for the advice, i only have 2eth connections. not sure what the others are. i will deactivate the setting for now.
  9. hi! i've got NZBget running fine, but its filled up the cache drive [Sonarr had a missticked series and bulk downloaded all back seasons] my issue is its using the cache drive, downloaded a season, extracted it and all the episodes are rar'ed inside, it hasn't extracted those as run out of space. my issue is i am RDP on VM to the folder and i cannot delete the folders in intermediate [TV series with rar'ed files of multiple episodes] to clear it, says permission denied. i can't copy out of it as the cache is now full i just want to delete the files/folders but NZBGet classes them finished so won't delete the files. any advice on how to get permission to delete the folders would be appreciated!
  10. Forgive me. But I don’t know if i need it. what would I be using it for?
  11. Yeah just read that after a Googling. do I need that setting enabled?
  12. hi, yeah I rebooted it thinking something was glitching. i didn't realise that 4eth had bonded, i can see two of them called shim-br0 which i thought might be do with Shinobi. i deleted the Shinobi container but the shim-br0 are still there in network settings. so not really sure what they are.
  13. managed to get br0 back and get internet to the win10 VM. but still no internet for containers. any advice on where to look would be much appreciated
  14. hi! something has gone awry and i'm not sure where to start looking. system comprises of docker containers for NZBGET/Sonarr/Plex/Homebridge/Shinobi-pro/couchpotato/tautulli. everything has been working fine till it seems, some point last night. NZBGET - cannot resolve with hostname and cannot download Sonarr - cannot connect out to NZBGET or connect to indexers Plex - works fine and can connect remotely == but has IP issue as per attached screeenshot. Homebridge - loads, but i cannot control any devices that homebridge based but i can view the homebridge cameras. the log says "failed to check registry.npmjs.org" i know it was working as the outside lights that come on at sunset through homebridge were on when i came home at 3am this morning. [they ususally scheduled for off at 1am] everything loads, but seems have lost internet. any advice on where look first? edit - my windows10 VM hasn't started and won't start has the error br0. Went into it settings and pressed save. It now loads the VM but unable to get an IP. edit - attached diagnostics.zip edit edit - plex screenshot - showing no IP server-diagnostics-20200823-0944.zip
  15. great plugin, just got it going and restored my backup to it! edit - getting log error on UI Cannot show logs. "log" option is not configured correctly in your Homebridge config.json file. any advice?
  16. hi! got up and running this morning, built array, formatted drives, made shares and now filling them up. i have two SSDs dedicated to Plex and VMs. i've installed the community apps plugin and unassigned devices plugin. i don't want to mount the drives as they currently are, i want to format them to XFS (i assumed XFS to keep TRIM) and have them as individual drives outside the main array so i can put plex DB on one and VMs on the other. but how do i format them, how do i keep them outside array and have them ready?
  17. ignore me. try checking all patch leads are connected before posting! #schoolboyerror!
  18. Hi! just done first power on with new install and i can't connect to network. i set the IP address up in the customise tab in the usb stick builder. the motherboard is an Intel DQ77MK which i was kinda hoping would just work out the box? there is two ethernet connections on the back and neither lit up when i interchanged the cable. any advice would be appreciated, i have attached diagnostics. 19. that helps a lot. Parity it is. i'm consolidating files to prep the move and looking to make a parity drive.
  20. 6. if a drive fails in the array built across say 6 drives. is all lost or only the data on that drive? what processes would you follow to establish/confirm if just a connection issue or a hard drive failure? after more reading, i'm looking into a parity drive as the sheer ability to continue to function with drive issues, is lovely.
  21. ok. more questions. 4. whats best order of works. its going to be like moving the fox and chicken across the river and not enough seats on the boat. by that, can i offer an empty drive onto Unraid, begin to fill it up, once another drive empties on the existing system, move that over and continue to fill until all moved over? 5. SSDs. now you know what i want to do. what do i do with SSDs in terms of layout on unraid before putting things on them
  22. all RDP. aim is a headless build. RDP will be using ZeroTier. [but couldn't intel integrated graphics be considered/come into play here to physical access?] VMs currently VDI using VirtualBox. for ease [and to increase my understanding] i aim to install all fresh and migrate required over to the new VMs as opposed to try and convert the existing to something compatible and then have to troubleshoot that. again, rather than migrate tens of thousands of files of metadata, user data. this will be a fresh install. i don't want to troubleshoot permissions/access/performance issues when i barely know the landscape. only docker i've got is Homebridge. someone on reddit wrote me a step by step/piecemeal how to which i use once a year to destroy/update/rebuild. the multi-SSD thing was one of the next things to query which you've addressed. looks like 6.8.3 is the way to go. thats correct, the filesystem is standardisd and transferable between systems so long as you make sure its exact. But due to the volume of files, i think it would be simpler to start it again from scratch. i've already pre-empted my remote users that things are being reset and to expect downtime for the next month whilst i attempt this and make the data move. you move your DB over and then load your new Plex and point it to the DB. everything else comes back. But changing systems mean paths change so you then typically add the new paths to each of your libraries. scan then delete your old paths from your libraries. [sounds simple, but permissions are a b*tch!] yeah thats it, all of the plex DB and folders is currently on its own SSD. i find poster display performance improved for client devices.
  23. Want to run Plex Sonarr NZBGet Unifi Controller Homebridge VM1 Windows 10 (my daily) VM2 Windows 10 (wife’s daily) NVIDIA GTX 950 for Plex transcoding and use RAM. No gaming requirements. Spec i7 3770 32GB ram HBA - mix of hard drives totalling 24.5TB SSD1 - 120GB current Win10 host OS SSD2 - 240 - Plex SSD3 - 250 - VMs (Win10 x2 and Ubuntu for Homebridge in docker) Aim is free up resources. Instead of host OS being Win10 and incessant rebooting and hoping it doesn’t corrupt an active VM. it’s Unraid and two VMs. Then can lose the Ubuntu VM and run Homebridge in a docker on Unraid. Effectively the two Win10 VMs can do as they please and not affect any containers managing the media or downloads.
  24. Hi, UK user here looking at the task of leaving familiar territory - Windows and moving to Unraid and dockers. I’ve watched a fair few YouTube videos and been reading various threads on the forum. But there are a couple gaps in my knowledge that hold me back from doing the change. 1. Currently, I cannot afford parity. So will be running without it until I am able to. I religiously back up so am not concerned with data loss. But will it be a detriment to the system to not have parity? 2. SSDs I’m a bit lost as to what to do with SSDs. Current system is OS SSD, VM SSD and Plex SSD. I assume (rightly or wrongly) that one would be assigned as cache drive and continue to use the other two as they are now but under Unraid with VMs on one and Plex in a docker on the other. 3. i take it it’s as simple as adding more dockers for Sonarr, NZBGet et al and they’ll all come to life. aim is to begin the change once question two is solved. 👍 it’s a great community and a joy to read the replies that not only help OP but also guide future users like me who are hungry to learn. Thanks for reading! James
