  1. Also check your Spinup groups. I couldn't explain why certain disks were spinning up (I use Joe's cache dirs script) and one day noticed that the spinup groups were set in what seemed a pretty random manner.
  2. use promo code CEMCJNJN79 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148681
  3. Did you read this http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=7091.0 ?
  4. I currently use SMB and can watch BluRay rips at their full bitrates with no issues. What are the network settings on the Dune set to? I think there was something called "experimental gigabit" or something similar that needs to be disabled. I can get read speed numbers later if you'd like to compare.

  6. Damn you guys. I posted this, but didn't intend to buy - now you've convinced me to get one! I guess I'm replacing my parity drive with this as it'll be my first 3TB in the array. DoeBoye - I hear you about the eneloop's etc "but honey, we might need it one day, and I don't want to get caught at short notice and have to pay full price".
  7. $199.99 with $50 off. Use voucher 5SP481V44Q5$D0 for another $15 off. http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/Hard_Drives_Storage/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=dhs&cs=cadhs1&sku=A5194609&dgc=AF&cid=3881&lid=77903&acd=CAqD7bLWUPI-IRGNiscCuN4_n.BxxinlMg
  8. Confirmed that RC4 resolves this issue by no longer allowing root to access the shares remotely. My Windows 7 machine that was creating the problem due to cached credentials asked me to provide new ones once I upgraded to RC4.
  9. Ok here's something I've found. If, on the windows side, you authenticate with the server as user 'root', then this will cause problems, ie, files created will have owner 'root' in group 'root'. In thinking about it, there is a bug in 5.0: the 'root' user should not show up in the "User Access" list for Secure and Private security modes. Combined with windows credential caching, this might explain this issue. I need to work on this a little more, but I think we're on to something. Do you think it's possible that sometime in the past, you used user "root" to connect to the server? I almost certainly have connected as Root in the past (when I was running 4.7) but haven't for a few months. I did think along the same lines, but doing a net use showed no connections on the Windows 7 machine (my assumption was that if I was still connected as root somehow, it would show up there). I rebuilt a machine a couple of weeks ago that has never connected to the Unraid server, when I get home tonight I'll try connecting via that to see if I get the same behavior.
  10. Edit: I've only tried writing to [Movies] and [TVShows] since I upgraded and they both have the problem samba.txt
  11. Here's mine: Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf rlimit_max: increasing rlimit_max (1024) to minimum Windows limit (16384) WARNING: The "null passwords" option is deprecated Can't find include file /boot/config/smb-extra.conf Processing section "[flash]" Processing section "[Kids]" Processing section "[Movies]" Processing section "[Photos]" Processing section "[stdDef]" Processing section "[TVShows]" Processing section "[Temp]" Loaded services file OK. Server role: ROLE_STANDALONE I have the cache_dirs plugin running.
  12. Yup - ran it once when I first went from 4.7 to 5.0-rc3. My post applies specifically to files added post-upgrade. Unless something is really weird with my set-up, I imagine anyone running 5.0-rc3 who connects unauthenticated to Unraid via Windows and creates a file will find the owner:group is root:root.
  13. In my case, I create files from a Windows 7 machine just using a UNC (\\tower\<sharename>) path with no specific credentials (security is set to public in Unraid for that Share). My (Dune) media player then attempts to read the file connecting as a named Read-only SMB user. This file access fails. Telnetting in to Unraid I see the owner group of the file is root / root. Running chown nobody:users on the file allows access as normal.
  14. I have a Dune media player too, but can play everything flawlessly. What hardware components do you have? Same here : Dune player + Unraid RC3. The only problem I've had is that the Dune player reports "Unsupported Format" after I copy a .mkv to Unraid from Windows and try to play it. It turns out that's it's a permission problem which I fix doing a chown nobody:users [i]<filename>[/i] on the file. How are you connecting to Unraid, NFS or SMB?

  16. I believe it makes sense to keep things like photo's / documents that don't exist anywhere else on your local PC AND Unraid (and obviously a copy off-site if they are really import to you). Like you, I keep movies just on Unraid, as in a worst case scenario I could re-rip them. Working with the local version is obviously faster too. Rather than a weekly backup, take a look at rsync to continually keep a backup of your important files. I'm not sure what the best version is for Windows 7 - hopefully someone will come along an post a recommendation....
  17. $14.99 from Newegg Canada. Free shipping, no code required. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16880101008 Edit: Different model, this is Rosewill RHRC-11002 .

  19. I also run a Tomato router. When I want to access my Unraid from the Internet, I SSH into the Router (you have to enable WAN side SSH access) and then SSH over to the Unraid box. If I want to browse to the Unraid web interface, I can use ssh -N -p 2222 [email protected] -L 8080/192.168.0.100/80 This basically connects to my router at my.router.net and forwards localhost:8080 to 192.168.0.100:80 (which is my Unraid box on the remote LAN). Then I just fire-up a Browser and got to http://localhost:8080/main.htm
  20. http://www.infoworld.com/t/hard-drives/the-impending-hard-drive-shortage-and-possible-price-hikes-176453 It would be weird to see an increase after the constant $ per GB decline....
  21. I'm sure someone will come along with something more useful, I seem to remember that when I replaced at 1TB with a 2TB pre-cleared, it took about 12 hours to complete.

  23. I'm going to be looking into this myself very shortly as I want to automatically move copies of my digital photos to my Unraid server. From a brief Google search, DeltaCopy seems to be a popular Windows port of Rsynch : http://www.aboutmyip.com/AboutMyXApp/DeltaCopy.jsp .
  24. Thank you! This was a 4.6 -> 4.7 upgrade, so maybe this should be in the 4.7 Release Notes too (?)... I did check those first! Edit: Thinking about it, it's quite possible that I didn't use the NFS shares between upgrading to 4.6 and now, so I just didn't notice.
