I also added a test username and that didn't work either. I can add users but cannot delete my 4.7 users. I also tried to set up the share as a public and it didn't work either.. im obviously missing something simple, any more ideas?
-
I didn't, I tried to hit remove but it didn't work. Is that where you do it from the console or are you talking about removing a password file or something.

Frank,
sorry i mistyped, it is LAN on both my network and the Unraid setup.. this thing is killin me.
-
my workgroup is named Lan, under SMB setting on the Unraid box, it is set to Yes (workgroup) and Workgroup:LAN Local Master:Yes.

hey guys, ran the script again, a couple times and still no joy. I rebooted my computer, even added another user, changed the shares to public, still cannot get to drives in windows explorer. It says cannot access, you do not have permission to access \\media\hdmovies.
any help would be much appreciated, can't figure it out.

hey guys, not at home now but did run the script.. i noticed in the release thread it said about re-booting the windows computer which i did not do.. I will try and post back tonight.. thanks guys.

Hey guys, just upgraded to 5 rc2 from 4.7 pro.. everything went smooth, can see all the directories on the drives via the console.. the problem is i cannot access the drives via Windows Explorer like i used to. All my data seems to be intact, i just cannot view the stuff on a windows machine. What am i missing here?

Purko,
what do you mean on top of screen? i just minimized it so my kids wouldn't cancel the transfer by mistake.

thanks for the link buddy. I telnetted in with Putty and after figuring out the interface, i was able to just delete those directories which i couldn't do within Windows explorer. I am now moving files between drives with MC in a telnet session. thanks again!

...how did you set up passwords on your server?
...post a syslog so we can see if there's something wrong.
I just set up users with passwords and assigned them access to shares.
I didn't realize it was copying from the server to windows then back to the server.. i will have to look into a better way to copy files on the unRaid, just really didn't think about it.

thanks for the reply.. i have mapped network drives for all my disks from my unRaid to drives on my Windows 7 computer.. So basically i have:
Disk L = \\media (server name)\disk1
Disk M= \\media\disk2
Disk N= \\media\disk3
I am just using Windows explorer to copy files from drive to drive.. I have shares set up but am copying from disk to disk.
Hopefully that helps.

Hey guys, quick question. i have been organizing and moving files around on my Unraid server for a couple days. Im moving a bunch of Indesign files from work from one Unraid drive to another. It leaves about 10 files on the disk and pops up with an error about not having root security priviledges (sorry i can't remember the exact wording). So basically i have a drive in my server with a few files that i want deleted now but can't delete them. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, im on 4.4.2, should i upgrade to the latest even though it's been running flawlessly for a long time now.

thanks man, i will have to probably go the bootable USB drive way, i think.. thanks for your information, the drives are a pain to pull out and i would love to do it without removing any.

thanks Eric.. so if they need updating like im sure they do, do i need to take them out of my unraid server and do it in my windows machine?
-
how do i update the firmware on drives that are currently in my Unraid server? i have 4 of them and am worried about them.

I've copied over 6.5TB worth of data to my unRAID server by using the individual disks and never have a problem. But I can not transfer a blu-ray ISO file to the server via a share... it must be done direct to the disk.
i always copy to disk, not shares. What would be the reason to copy to a share? Also, i use Vista 64 and just copy and paste bluray rips (40gb) to my server using windows explorer without problems. I am running 4.3.3 and also have Vista SP1. You might want to do Joe L's performance edit which worked wonders for my transfer times. I think it is in the user customization forums.

Hey guys, just as the subject says. I went to turn off the unraid today via the web console. It popped up requesting a username/password, i guess it somehow got deleted from my saved passwords, pretty sure it was root but couldn't remember the password. Am i screwed? How do i bypass this or reset my root password without messing up my servier? I just want to be able to shut down my server.

most people use a router as the dhcp server. If set up that way, the router automatically gives out IP numbers to each computer that you have plugged into the network, or that connect to your network wirelessly.
[SOLVED] Upgraded to 5 now can't access any of my drives or shares
