    Manchmal hilft doch tatsächlich eine Nacht drüber schlafen:
     
    Nach einem Vergleich der Variablen mit der Doku funktioniert nun alles nach Wunsch.
    Ich poste mal die E-Mail betreffenden Einträge am Beispiel von Mail.ch.
    Groß/Kleinschreibung ist wichtig, war mein Fehler bei MAILER/DRIVER/ENCRYPTION
     
    MAIL_USERNAME [email protected] (war doppelt vorhanden, einfach genügt)
    MAIL_PASSWORD yourmailaccountpassword
    MAIL_MAILER smtp (neu anlegen über +Weiteren Pfad, Port, Variable, Bezeichnung oder Gerät hinzufügen)
    MAIL_DRIVER smtp
    MAIL_HOST smtp.mail.ch
    MAIL_PORT 465
    MAIL_ENCRYPTION ssl
    MAIL_FROM_NAME Anything
    MAIL_FROM_ADDRESS [email protected]
    MAIL_VERIFY_SSL_PEER true
