Move SSD's
It seems that everything is working now that I got my license fully transfered. If I run into any problems I will open a new thread. Thanks.

Please add this feature ..........
Both of You are correct, I was talking about the "Back to Top" like in the image but also the "Home" button (on the keyboard) does the same thing. I would like to see the "Back to top" also though because I would have never known about the "Home" button otherwise. Regards

Please add this feature ..........
Thanks, normally the HOME button takes You the Homepage. Edit* That is exactly what it does, I was looking for "back to top" which would bring Me back to the top of the thread. Im not looking to go to the homepage.

Issues on new server .......
My license has been now transferred, everything is seemingly working fine; minus the Tailscale. I will have to figure that out myself. Regards

Proper order going from trial to license but using new USB flash [SOLVED]
Understood, its impossible for a Moderator or a Community Expert to make a mistake, not know everything, or word their questions/replies in a way that makes total sense immediately. This will be my last post trying to help another member. I will only create my own post from now on asking the questions that I am too stupid to understand. My sincere apologies to anyone that was offended or was misinformed by my clearly inaccurate and unreasonable post/replies. Carry on ......................

Proper order going from trial to license but using new USB flash [SOLVED]
This is what I was referring to. The 24x7 use stated here made Me assume they thought that the USB is constantly being read/written 24x7. I was commenting on that point/issue. Its ok to miss some details sometimes. Thanks

Proper order going from trial to license but using new USB flash [SOLVED]
Now I understand the issue. No valid GUID make sense. The rest of it is just a coke vs pepsi scenario which is what I assumed this discussion was about after removing the "counterfit" variable. I get it now, thanks for the clarification. I genuinely didnt understand the "debate" especially the part about the failures due to "constant read/writes" which doesnt actually happen. Thanks everyone for clearing that up.

Thanks, I edited the post so its compliant with Unraid's policy. The reasoning is still the same however.

Proper order going from trial to license but using new USB flash [SOLVED]
Got it, thanks for the clarification. I just feel like its such a minimal issue that its not worth people worrying about. I guess some people though worry about every small detail. As far as I know Unraid gives You the option to backup Your USB to Your account so in theory You could buy ten for $1 each and even if they only 1 year each You got 10 years worth of USB's ready to go so its not really a big deal. I genuinely am curious to know (for my own education) if we take out the counterfit variable in this discussion what is left to be worried about?

Proper order going from trial to license but using new USB flash [SOLVED]
Thanks for the clarification and it makes sense in theory but I guess my main point is USB failure isnt really a huge problem considering the easily available backup solutions both from Unraid themselves and backups You can manually make. The only scenarios/explanations I have found about it being an issue is with counterfit drives. If You are using real genuine drives then essentially this isnt really a problem. Also to be perfectly transparent I have read many threads in the past and done lots of research on different usb brands because I wanted to make a "survival" usb that contains my information, an offline wiki and self hosted apps in the event that a doomsday scenario happens where there is no internet etc so I wanted something long lasting, durable, etc. My findings are that many of these companies are buying the materials from the same place so what You are really buying is the brand name. A prime example is exactly with SanDisk. Guess who owns them? Western Digital. So the same person can say they dont like SanDisk but like Western Digital drives ........ Some people hate PNY but have no problem with Verbatim (same company) etc. Not trying to argue but we are kinda talking about the "Pepsi vs Coke" type of discussion at this point. Just my two cents I guess.

Issues on new server .......
I successfully moved my drives to the new server and I also think I successfully transferred my license however I am running into these issues. I dont have the option for VM's and some of the other "PAID" features. I suspect my license didnt fully transfer; maybe I did it incorrectly. I tried to connect the new server to Tailscale and I get this error even after logging in with GitHub as I have done before. "This device needs to be logged in to Tailscale. Refresh this page after logging in to view the status. So then .... I sign in with GitHub Then I get ... Authorization failed device with nodekey:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx already exists; please log out explicitly and try logging in again." I logout/login from everything and get the same error. Is this because my license hasnt fully transferred or something different? Regards

Please add this feature ..........
Please add a "back to top" button on the forums. I have scrolled pages of post and having to scroll back to the top manually is ............... odd. Thanks

Move SSD's
Hello again, I dont know if this was suppose to work or not but what I did was simply insert my SSD's into my new server, and literally just brought the USB from old server into the new server and booted it up. I ran all the verifications/checks and everything is working just fine! I didnt even need a secondary usb key. This brings Me to my next question, I have the secondary USB drive that I was originally trying to use on the new server. I am going to format it and use it for something else now that I got my new server running but my questions are. Eventhough my new server seems to be working fine how can I verify everything is working correctly before repurposing the old server and usb? How can I register the new server properly with Unraid (it says its connected however some of the paid features aren't working (like Docker for example)? I know its the weekend and I dont expect a reply right away but I am hoping someone is bored and comes across this thread. Thanks!

Proper order going from trial to license but using new USB flash [SOLVED]
Im just confused by the statement of "they are just not good for the constant use unraid requires of them." What constant use? How often do You reboot Your server? Most here leave theirs on 24/7 which means that after boot the USB thumbdrive doesnt even really get used. Maybe I am totally wrong but from my understanding pretty much nothing gets saved to the USB other then the bootloader. After the server boots the USB doesnt even get used at all or not often. I was told today that the real reason that people dont recommend them is the counterfit issue. If you buy from a reputable source You shouldnt have that issue. Regardless I am working on a solutation to this as we speak. Have already sent the needed emails out but its Sunday so wont hear back until tommorrow at the earliest. Regards

Unraid doesnt store Your data on the USB. It only stores basically the "boot loader" this is the reason You can backup Your USB to Your unraid account.

If You Could Sell Me On Unraid With One Feature?
Probably the wrong thread for You to be asking this but the lifetime is only $250.00/USD not $300.00/USD but regardless if You buy or upgrade Your server every 5 years (which is pretty standard from my research) then in 5 years Your license cost You only $4.17/m (rounded up) and Your data stays with You. You then just transfer Your license to the new server and continue on. No extra fees etc leaving You all Your money to do with what You want. My "one feature" selling point would just be that its Your server so You can do with it as You wish and with proper security Your data will never leave Your control, be used as advertising products/services etc. You own and control all Your data. That's the real reason I feel people self host their own servers. Just my opinion though.

Proper order going from trial to license but using new USB flash [SOLVED]
Thanks for the additional information. Mine are definately real but I will note that for the future. To the OP: "Copy the old license to the new flash drive, delete the trial key, then transfer it in Tools - Registration" Its that simple from what I just learned from a Moderator. Hope that helps!

Best answer I got so far, simple and seemingly effective. If I run into any problems I will report. Thanks again!

Proper order going from trial to license but using new USB flash [SOLVED]
You wrote: " .... using a SanDisk thumb drive (hey! I didn't know any better! ๐" What exactly does that mean? I use SanDisk thumb drives all the time without issues. They are not my favorite brand but ....... I ask because is there something about SanDisk thumb drives that I should know about? Thanks

Move SSD's
So here is my issue. I have an old server that I have Unraid on with (3) 1TB ssds installed with data on them. I have setup a new server with Unraid Trial. I need to know how to remove my (3) 1TB ssds from my old server and install into new server. After I do that and everything works well/tested/configured then I need to transfer my lifetime license to it. How can I transfer the SSD's to my new server with no data loss? How can I transfer my Lifetime License from my Old server to my New server running the trial? Thanks

VM GPU issue?
"Is it possible to run the VM while keeping the GPU available for Docker containers when itโs not in use, or do I need to fully pass it through?" I would like to know this as well. I primarly use Linux as my OS but I need a VM that I can fire up with my Windows 11 Pro installation for when I want to play games. When I shut down that VM I want to be able to use the GPU for other things. Let me know if You get this answer please.

Libvirt Service failed to start - how to fix?
Ok, I will have to determine how to store this data then. I wanted the full 250gb m.2 to be my Windows 11 Pro VM and the full 2tb be for my games install. (the same as it is now on my current Windows Gaming PC. I have a full restorable iso that I took from it that I hoped to restore into a VM.) For data/files I have the (3) 1 TB SSD's that is currently in the old machine. What would happen if I simply remove those from the old server and placed them into the new one? I assume this where the data from Unraid is being stored as its the only storage media in the machine besides the USB. Could I format the 250gb m.2 and split it say 50gb for the OS and cache and 200gb for the the VM? What do You/Anyone recommend my plan of action be? Regards

Libvirt Service failed to start - how to fix?
Ok, I will check into that. Odd that You say that though because on my old unraid server I literally only have the USB stick and (3) 1TB ssd's which contain my data/files. I dont think Unraid got installed to them at all and I think its installed on the USB or something. I literally have no other drives attached. Ill see what I can do. Thanks!
