  1. Hi GJones... your favorite TC user here again... 1) Was having some more issues today for some reason... after some lengthy troubleshooting, I found that HandBrake was throwing an error with one of the arguments in the CLI options. It seems the "-C 3" isn't being recognized... I deleted that from the tcOPTIONS file and it's working tickety-boo again. From reading the online HandBrake CLI guidance, it seems to be something to do with the number of CPUs, which it will attempt to auto-detect anyway. 2) Just noticed the following entry in the syslog: Tower shfs: shfs_setxattr: setxattr: /mnt/cache/TV/Alias/Season_2/Alias.S02E02_H264.mkv (95) Operation not supported Anything to worry about? 3) ClunkClunk has been kind enough to distribute a SVN trunk release of HandBrake (see here) - this release fixes the previous issues re: HD audio, so (I believe) it can pass-through original HD audio. Do you know how you would amend the CLI options in tcOPTIONS so that HD sources are encoded with pass-through audio?
  2. Great - thank you... I've disabled spin-up groups for the time being. I couldn't see where to find the place to change the group assignments (referenced in post "You can go to the 'Disk' pages accessed from the Main page for each disk and change this if desired.") Has this changed since 4.5?
  3. So funny you should post this - I was about to ask EXACTLY the same question. My only other refinement is that this behavior seems to have started at the same time I installed a cache drive for the first time. Perhaps coincidence, or the first time I was really monitoring behaviors, but thought I'd mention it.
  4. Hi, I've just recently put a cache drive into my unRaid box, and was looking through the syslog an saw hundreds and hundreds of entries like: Apr 3 03:40:01 Tower logger: ./_custom/sabnzbd/interfaces/smpl/CreativeCommons2-5.txt Apr 3 03:40:01 Tower logger: ./_custom/sabnzbd/interfaces/smpl/License-MochiKit.txt Apr 3 03:40:01 Tower logger: ./_custom/sabnzbd/interfaces/smpl/CreativeCommons3-0.txt Apr 3 03:40:01 Tower logger: ./_custom/sabnzbd/interfaces/smpl/License-PlotKit.txt Apr 3 03:40:01 Tower logger: ./_custom/sabnzbd/interfaces/smpl/GPL2.txt Apr 3 03:40:01 Tower logger: ./_custom/sabnzbd/interfaces/smpl/GPL3.txt I've got the unRaid Menu package "Exclude directories beginning with "_" from being moved from the cache drive." installed, so wondered what these entries were doing in the syslog? Thank you!
  5. Please check that all the SATA cables are in place (could have been jostled loose in the fall), and then post a SMART report for parity.
  6. Wonderful - thank you very much Kevin. I think I'm getting the hang of these scripts a bit now! Maybe I'll just write the next one myself.
  7. Cache drive can be any size, but should be bigger than the maximum you expect to transfer to the server in any given day. Although many (including myself) make the cache drive the same size as parity, as a "warm spare". That way, if there's a drive failure in the array, you can substitute it and the failed drive will be rebuilt on the old cache drive. Then you can order a new drive for cache. Just a bit of peace of mind should you have a failure, because that is when the array is most vulnerable.
  8. Not sure if something exists to do this already. I was thinking about what would be lost on failure of my cache drive in the event of a catastrophic (i.e. unrecoverable) drive failure. Understand that any unswept files would be lost if the drive fails before a nightly sweep to the array... I'm fine with that. The more irritating thing would be the loss of my _custom directory with Sickbeard, SAB and CouchPotato. Is there a script that would back that up (say nightly) to the array, so it's protected in the event of a failure of the cache drive? Would then be easy to swap the failed cache drive out and copy the folder(s) back to bring it back to full operation. Thank you!
  9. Popcorn Hour does seem very nice, albeit a bit pricier than an Apple TV 2. But offsetting that is the jailbreak which will be a nuisance for the life of the box, or until Apple let you install apps on the device. Can someone tell me how attractive and user friendly the interface is for Popcorn Hour? Would be particularly grateful of any comparison between PH and Plex on ATV2. Does it pull metadata well and accurately for your movies/ TV? Does it show TV shows in a similar way to Plex (by season etc.)?
  10. Agree with the above, and understand it would be quite a coding change. One small thing I've been meaning to say is that it would be great to move the regular expression search string to tcOPTIONS for each. I've customized mine to reflect my specific naming conventions, so would be useful to move it into tcOPTIONS (perhaps into an "Advanced" section, as it's not as simple as the directories, XMBC IP address etc.) so that when there are updates to the main scripts, it doesn't overwrite my little customization. Hope the new title brings this on the radar for more people... it's a great little tool you've developed GJones. Takes a little bit of work to implement, but once it's in and running you can just leave it to schedule and sort encoding, which otherwise is a very tedious and labor intensive task!
  11. Understand and agree... certainly don't want to go rushing in and changing things without considering the consequences for sure. Is there any way for HandBrake to pass back an error if it can't be encoded? Because if HandBrake can't encode the file, then I can't really think of any way that this fact would change given time. If it's strangely encoded, then (unless there's a change in the MKV specification), it will still be unencodable in the future too. Not that it's a big deal, but such files would just keep getting put into the TS queue every night unnecessarily. I do like the idea of some kind of log file though.
  12. How do you get to $52? My math is: $74.99 - $10 rebate = $64.99
  13. I mean that the XBMC system wouldn't be able to access Plex Media Server (PMS) library file - so this requires the maintenance of 2 separate "library" files, containing all the metadata (I appreciate they all point to the same underlying files of course). Just would be neater to have one library (PMS) that all devices would work with. I guess I could look at XMBC for my Mac... but I'm just really happy with Plex and am loathed to change from it.
  14. How about Hitachi 2TB 5K3000 drives for $64.99 (after rebate)? http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=11929.0
  15. Use promocode NEWGEEK25 for 25 off $100 (New account only) People are reporting that the check is only against email addresses, not physical addresses, so if you use another email address you are considered a "new" customer. Deal expires 11.59pm PST on 3/31/11, so hurry! ----EDIT---- Deal has expired - hope you all enjoy your good deals!
  16. I know that this topic has been discussed in a number of threads, but wanted to consolidate various different options and get your viewpoints on what to do. Scenario: - UnRaid box with media in user shares (TV, Movies-DVD, Movies-BluRay) - Macbook Pro with Plex v.9 installed (runs 24/7) - 46" LCD TV with HDMI inputs (1080p) What I want: To attach a permanent fixture to my TV to allow me to stream content from the UnRaid box. As the laptop is on 24/7, having the media served through it is ok, although would prefer not. Options: - Mac Mini ($600-ish) - Benefits: can run the Plex server locally and free up my Macbook pro; can surf etc. Cons: price - AppleTV2 ($99) - Benefits: runs of the local Plex library; AppleTV is pretty cool; cheap. Cons: needs jailbreaking - LG SmartBox ($130-ish) - Benefits: custom made for viewing Plex on TV. Cons: Prob bad interface, not currently available, restricted feature-set - HPTC ($?) - Benefits: cheaper than Mac Mini; run XMBC; can surf etc.. Cons: Separate library from Plex; can't actually run Plex player Are there any other options? What do you think is the best option? I'm thinking the AppleTV2 looks pretty appealing, I just wish there was a AppleTV App Store which Plex could be properly installed through. Thank you for any thoughts
  17. Figured out the problem... it was a bad mkv file. I guess that TS was trying to encode, failing and then because it wasn't able to encode, trying again, and again, and again. Haven't given this too much thought, but not sure what your thoughts are about building something in to rename the file to say "Episode - S01E01_BAD.mkv", or perhaps even moving out into /mnt/replaced/bad. I'm not sure how reliable the script would be at detecting a bad file, but currently theres no indication, and a bad file would not be noticed. At least now I understand the odd behavior!
  18. Good call... didn't even notice the sticker on the bag. Fortunately I didn't throw it out! Thank you for the info.
  19. The rebate makes you pull the SN and barcode off the drive... Does anyone know what happens if the drive needs RMA-ing? Would have thought that Hitachi would tell you to get lost! Putting mine through a 3x pre-clear to try and get past the first end of the bath curve.
  20. I'll check tonight, but almost certain I've got the HD search path # out (don't have many HD movies)... although maybe that could cause an issue perhaps?
  21. Ran both, and there were no results. The command I ran was: tclanglist /mnt/user/TV/Alias/Season_2/Alias_H264.S02E15.mkv and tclang /mnt/user/TV/Alias/Season_2/Alias_H264.S02E15.mkv Is that the correct syntax? Why isn't the file being skipped given the _H264 extension?
  22. There are thousands of the files, but they contain one of two types of content: 1) ts-out.1NZ44J (as an example, but always the same) /usr/local/bin/tcremkv: line 34: [: !=: unary operator expecte unknown option (-C) **************************************** * Comparing File Sizes * **************************************** du: cannot access '/mnt/user/TV/Alias/Season_2/Alias_H264.S02E15.mkv': No such file or directory du: cannot access '/mnt/user/replaced/Alias.S02E15.mkv': No such file or directory **************************************** * ck * **************************************** BEFORE AFTER 2) ts-out.1c01Lj (other files contain two consecutive numbers) 70 71 Please let me know if you need something else. Thank you!
  23. Nice story... glad for the happy ending. Reminds me of that Sherlock Holmes quote: “When you eliminate all other possibilities, what remains, no matter how improbable, is the answer.”
