  1. Hi - UnMenu is such a beautiful piece of software, I feel it deserves and equally snazzy favicon to replace the somewhat mundane white piece of paper there at the moment. Does anyone with some photoshop skills have some time to make a little icon, and if so, would Joe L. be open to putting it into the code?
  2. Completely understand and didn't mean to chase in any way. Moreover, I guess I don't know how to check for updates in UnRaid... could you point me in the right direction?
  3. I got the error again last night... how does one get an update of the script? Would it get automatically pushed in unmenu, or do I need to update the unmenu "package"? Do you know indeed if it's even been put into an updated unmenu yet? Thank you!
  4. Yes - there is extra cost upfront, but what I was trying to say is you're not spending $80 on a 2TB which you then replace when 3TB are supported.
  5. $15k will build you one heck of an UnRaid box... it could probably beat you at Jeopardy too!
  6. Be careful unplugging. I've heard of issues doing that, as some UPS's work on the basis a ground connection is present (i.e. even though the power is off, the top plug pin is still connected to earth). I understand the desire to test, and not sure how much of this is speculation vs. fact, but just wanted to highlight to you before you pull any plugs. Perhaps safer to go throw the circuit-breaker wired to that outlet - would be a very real simulation of a power failure!
  7. You can see what comes in the box at the APC website, here Includes: Cat6 Ethernet Cable, Cord management straps, Documentation CD, Installation guide, User Manual Further, if you read the manual here, you can see that the management of the UPS is via a IP connection. I do not believe that the UnRaid APC package includes IP support, although someone who knows that package better than me may be able to answer that question definitively.
  8. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=11183.0 There are instructions here on how to short-stroke a 3TB drive to 2.1TB, which will enable compatibility with UnRaid v4.7 The idea is that when 3TB become supported, you will be able to reverse the procedure and use the whole 3TB (without any extra $ expense).
  9. @ohlwiler... great analysis - I had never seen the math done before. Also hadn't appreciated the green vs. not-green unexpected differences.
  10. You're welcome - I must have misunderstood your initial question. When I read it, it sounded like you thought a v.4.7 upgrade would solve the issue you were having with your drive. From the SMART report, that drive looks ok (no sectors reallocated or pending reallocation), but it's not a Samsung... I really don't know what I'm doing with syslog yet, so will let someone with more experience pass comment on that front. With many many years of IT experience, I have learned to err on the side of caution over speed. Yes, it would be faster to upgrade to 4.7 and sort out your disk issue and 4k alignment at the same time, but you risk hitting a problem and data loss. Much in the same way I would love to just put my new 2TB drive into the array to play with, rather than waiting 20-30 hours for a preclear!
  11. In absence of a switch to the contrary, preclear will follow the alignment in settings. So if you have already set it as aligned in there, you don't need to respecify it when running preclear.
  12. This sounds like you've got a problem with your drive. Upgrading to 4.7 won't help with that... it will only complicate matters! Please post a SMART report on the drive, and syslogs with relevant events.
  13. Ok - fair enough... if you check out Raj's recommended builds (here), you'll see his 650W recommendation. I'm not sure what your 750W PSU is, but I've been told it's not about the W, but the peak amps that can be delivered. See this thread. I think that you'll find the 850W more than sufficient.
  14. SMART report looks good... may just have been a misbehaving cable. Someone else may be able to help interpret the syslog... not a forte of mine! I'd say, keep a close eye on the drive, but you're probably ok!
  15. Mine is in the root of the flash drive. When you say package, I only had a single file. Did you have more? Yes - just the one.
  16. Provided you're going to use Green drives (highly recommended), a Corsair 650W will be sufficient - CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W. A bargain at $79.99 after MIR
  17. I'm having the same issue here - using "nobody" in the start script included in this post... I changed it to "root", but when I run the script, it crashes UnMenu!! dirrtyjoe - did you have any luck in getting this fixed? Can anyone else help? Thank you!
  18. 4.7 absolutely has NIC drivers. Jump into the console and run "ifconfig -a" - will give you details of the NICs, IP addresses and other data.
  19. Great to hear... my amp doesn't support it either, but like keeping it there in case one day I get to upgrade to a system that does! Anything to be concerned about re: the syslog entry?
  20. Yes - you should do both these drives as 4K-aligned (use the -A option). You can get the latest version of preclear here. No - it's not included with the standard distribution of UnRaid
  21. To the best of my knowledge, if you have more than one disk fail at the same time, then UnRaid's parity system will not allow you to recover any data. Unless someone thinks otherwise, I should think your best bet is to attempt data recovery on the failed disk independently... here's a post about data recovery from a failed drive

    Parity Check!

Very pretty... my 4 drives don't look so impressive.
  23. A pre-clear isn't required, but highly highly highly recommended - you won't find too many users here that would trust their data to an untested hard disk. A UPS is highly recommended also - people have some issues after power surges. But unless you have a concern of a power outage in the next two days, I wouldn't be too concerned. The cache drive can be added at any point - I put mine in a few weeks after my initial setup.
