  1. Noted. I will then copy specific amount of files/directories into specific disks to avoid all the problems you mentioned. What about disabling Parity? How much speed will I gain?
  2. If you meant this then yes. If not I would appreciate that you show me how.
  3. I It depends. What speed gain should I expect if I do that? BTW Rsync vs. Krusader, is there much to gain in speed? I'd rather not use Rsync but if I must.....
  4. Thanks. I worked it out with Krusader. The problem is the copy is running at an average of 55 MiB/s ..... My LAN is 1Gbps. Wha could be the problem? What can I improve? Or maybe this is what is to be expected?
  5. I am really not comfortable with Rsync and CLI in general especially in Linux. I already have my readynas directory mapped with Unassigned Devices plugin and I can see the data. But I don't know how to browse this same data in Krusader. Is Midnight Commander easier? How do I neutralize the write to cache option temporarily while I copy the data? And where do I enable Turbo Write ? That is after I manage to see it in Krusader or Midnight Commander P.S: In the meantime I found out about Turbo Write a.k.a Reconstruct Write. So I enabled it. I suppose I should switch it back to Auto after I finish with copying at risk of having my whole array spinning all the time, right? Thank you for taking the time
  6. Hello, I am merging a Readynas into Unraid. I need to do that over my 1Gb network. I can do that using SMB or NFS. I tried to use Krusader on Unraid but somehow I didn't manage to see my Readynas shares. How do you recommend I do that? How to optimize the writing into Unraid? Stop all dockers? If so what with Krusader? Maybe command line using Putty? If so what with long filenames or deep directory structures? Will that be a problem? Maybe stop the cache drive and allow to write directly into the array? Please I need your help. Thank you
  7. Hello, I am merging a Readynas with Unraid. I need to move huge amount of data through the network. I want to use Krusader to put the load on Unraid. I mounted an SMB share that shows my Readynas directories within Unraid console. How can I see and use this mounted share in Krusader so I can copy/move data from Readynas to Unraid? Thank you
  8. Dunno. Copying files to Unraid from the network? Or multiple downloads to Unraid at the same time? Didn't really think about it. So if there is no speed gain but I still gain by saving a SATA slot, maybe I could use an SSD M.2 instead if they are cheaper.......
  9. I understand. This is useful only if 2 HDDs fail at the same time? Pretty rare I suppose. Or are there any more advantages?
  10. That is bad news. I do not use VMs at all. Based on this fact my only incentive to upgrade my cache drive to an NVMe will be the size and the fact that it will free one more slot for a future HDD? No speed gain at all?
  11. At last something worth noting! What is dual parity? Is there a manual to set that up? Most of the HDDs will be used as in fact I am merging 2 big NAS machines (Unraid and Readynas) into one.
  12. Getting no red light warnings at all I suppose putting all the HDDs, the SSD, the NVMe, the PCI SATA ports extenders, all in place and booting from the Unraid thumbdrive should be pretty straight forward, right?
  13. Of course I will check the disks first. Thank you. I expected more technical advice, about bios settings, how to make sure I take advantage of the speed. Before I was limited to 3 Gbps SATA. Now I will have 6 Gbps, and using an NVMe cache disk should yield better response. I still need help about migrating my old cache to the new cache. My first guess would be to shut down the Dockers before replicating all the cache content to the NVMe. Will that be enough after I designate it as the new cache?
  14. About #3, the HDDs being transferred to Unraid after their data has been copied via the network are destined to be formatted by Unraid and added to the array, same as if they were new virgin drives. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  15. Hello, I have an Unraid machine running with 9 HDDs including parity and one SSD drive for cache. 5 active dockers and a few plugins. In a few days I will be ready to migrate to a completely new machine assembled from scratch. Here are the steps I wish to perform: 1- Move everything to the new machine "as is" and make it work 2- Migrate the Cache role and content from my 480Gb SSD to a new 1Tb NVMe 3- Start to add other HDDs taken from another aging NAS, finally reaching a total of 18 HDDs in the new enclosure What am I in for? What surprises await for me? Please give it all to me. Warnings, advices, recommendations. The most elementary questions come to mind. Are there any special considerations with a much newer generation motherboard? Settings? Parameters? Maybe bios? Maybe some testing of the new machine before I start to move everything in and make my Unraid temporarily unavailable? I cannot install all the new HDDs at once. I have to do that gradually as I also move the data in. How should I proceed and do that right? I admit I am a bit concerned. Thank you
  16. Files are part of Bluray structure. m2ts files. not open. very large files. Moving them manually always starts and progresses way after half and then fail.
  17. Hello, Some files remain on on the cache drive no matter what. I activated the mover manually, I used Krusader to manually move the files to a physical drive. Nothing helps. I get an error no.5 in Krusader. The same files are readable if I access them. What can it be?
  18. Hello There was an auto update of Jdownloader docker today, and after that it fails to connect to server no matter what. Any fix?
  19. You probably saved me from an unfortunate internet overseas purchase that would have cost me money, time and nerves. I will try to make sense of all that you wrote. I am not exactly proficient in that field. What you are telling me is basically to keep the architecture I am used to, just improve on it by choosing a better case that can hold all the HDDs I got and add more, ventilate them better than I do (very easy task unfortunately), and serve the HDDs well when it comes to power and management, right? Let's delve into that. At the moment I have a 9 HDDs + 1 SSD Unraid that uses 6 SATA ports on my old motherboard + 4 SATA extensions from a PCI adapter. My motherboard is a Gygabyte H55M-D2H with an i5 CPU and 4Gb RAM. I guess I used one of the 2 PCI slots available. I have another NAS with 6 HDDs and my main goal is to get rid of it and consolidate everything under Unraid so 15 HDDs + 1 SSD in the end. The way I see it finding a new case that can hold everything will be a challenge I can deal with. The problem for me is to understand how to connect all these HDDs and be able to scale up a bit maybe in the future even though I think that will be enough for me. Will my motherboard suffice? I don't understand how this miniSAS technology works. Is that what will allow me to multiply the number of HDD connections available and accommodate the future needs? Can you please elaborate exactly on that point? And one last thing. How is the RAM used for my regular uses? As I said no processing is done on Unraid. Only downloads and file reads from computers or media streamers. So, will I need more RAM as I multiply the number of HDDs ? Thank you very much
  20. I didn't understand most of it but your word is gold. I am definitely not going the JBOD route thanks to you.
  21. Thank you for such an elaborate answer. I admit I didn't understand a thing almost and will have to research many terms. I will probably purchase the following JBOD https://www.datoptic.com/ec/15-drive-port-multiplier-enclosure-sbox-xv-html.html But I would be wise to order every single additional item necessary to be up and running in the least amount of time. Otherwise it will be very difficult for me to get these kind of material where I live. Seeing your pics I guess a minipc is out of the question to run Unraid since they don't have any PCI slots. Unless there is an external interface I could connect in between a minipc and the JBOD...... And my Unraid is used solely for 2 things: 1) nzb and torrent downloads 2) files accessed by multimedia streamers of computers. So no Plex or any use for special requirements on the Unraid side. I would appreciate more of your help.
  22. Hello, I run Unraid on a big tower PC where I literally stuffed as many HDDs as possible. Now I want to move on to a JBOD enclosure (15 bay) I don't know anything about JBODs. 2 questions: 1) what connects a JBOD enclosure to a machine that runs Unraid (from a thumbdrive obviously)? what kind of cable, connector? What is required on the machine side? 2) what kind of machine, smallest possible, can run Unraid and fill the requirements to connect to a JBOD? Can this machine include the SSD drive I use for cache? That would save a bay on the JBOD. Please advise in terms of efficiency, speed, reliability, etc..... Thank you
  23. Hello, LMS has been running for years on my Unraid. Suddenly today it is down. Checked on the Unraid console itself, says it is running. Webui is dead. Restart, reboot, didn't help. I uninstalled this version, then I installed the version available, the one saying 8.0 in her label, deleting all the remainder on my server. Clean slate. Same exact problem. Console says LMS runs. Webui is dead. LMS is not available at port 9000 as it should be. Uninstalled again and came back to this version. Still no luck. What is going on?????
  24. Hello, LMS has been running for years on my Unraid. Suddenly today it is down. Checked on the Unraid console itself, says it is running. Webui is dead. Restart, reboot, didn't help. I uninstalled the version I had, not this one, the other docker available, deleting all the remainder on my server. Clean slate. Then I installed this one, the 8.0 version. Same exact problem. At install I noticed that some stuff failed to install, some conflict at port 5353 !???? Cleaned all and reinstalled, modifying the 5353 port to 5354. This time the install was successful. But in the end same problem. Console says LMS runs. Webui is dead. LMS is not available at port 9000 as it should be. What is going on?????
