  1. Nevermind! It looks like the "KX" series has built-in IP. You used to have to add an additional module to get IP access.
  2. We used to use Raritan our datacenter. You do understand that the one you purchased will NOT give you any kind of IP connectivity? You also cannot control power.
  3. Looks like they finally have the i7-4770. I do not want the 'K' version as I will never overclock it and it doesn't have VT-d. They must have only recently started stocking it.
  4. According to the specs, those should work. However, SuperMicro tests their boards with specific RAM, so that is all I will buy. Server boards can be more picky about RAM than desktops. I'm running four Hynix HMT41GU7MFR8C-PB DIMMs.
  5. What is the exact model of RAM are you running?
  6. It should be fine as 2.0 has been shipping for almost a year. However, you never know when they find an old board on the shelf. Im pretty sure mine said the BIOS version on the box.
  7. If you are certain you have the correct RAM, I would try one DIMM at a time. I'm assuming your board has BIOS v2.0?
  8. First guess is wrong or bad memory. Have you tried it with just one stick? 5 short beeps + 1 long beep is a memory error.
  9. Microcenter is definitely the best place to buy Intel processors in the US. Also, they usually give you another $30-50 off with a motherboard purchase.
  10. And, the smb-extra.cfg file wont get overwritten when you upgrade.
  11. NewEgg does initially tell you that you will have to pay for return shipping. If you ask, or pressure them, they will waive it. I would imagine most people dont question it, so NewEgg makes a fortune.

  13. Sorry, but that board doesnt support 16GB DIMMs. http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/xeon/c202_c204/x9scm-f.cfm
  14. That would be awesome to use SCSI virtual disks. I have a fiber channel SAN for my datastores thats faster than a single SSD, that Im currently using for cache.
  15. If you buy a used one, make sure you perform a factory reset on it as the previous user may have made some changes.
  16. You can "connect and forget". However, you do get some management if you need.
  17. I will need to find my original box to verify, but I'm pretty sure it came with 2.0a, and I upgraded to 2.0b. I did not have a Sandy Bridge chip at the time to perform the upgrade with, so I was quite happy that it didn't arrive with 1.x.
  18. Looks like I don't have that problem. I'm running vCenter 5.5. Wonder if you have a "defective" board. ~ # esxcfg-info | grep -i 'product name' |----Product Name.............................................X9SCL/X9SCM |----World Command Line.................................grep -i product name ~ #
  19. Reminder, there are excellent drives inside of these: Hitachi Deskstar 7K4000 HDS724040ALE640 I don't need more storage, but its hard to pass up these prices.
  20. I haven't done it with BluRay, but for DVDs, I can confirm that MakeMKV command line works great.
  21. Since you apparently planned to re-rip anyway, I suppose that's not all that bad. But "... a few weeks ..." of time sure seems like a good case for backups !! Note that your comment that "... it was all movie ISO's and I'm going to start replacing those with MKV's, so would have to re-rip anyway " isn't correct => if you've already got the ISO's, there's no need to re-rip, you can simply create MKV's from the ISO [MUCH faster and easier than re-ripping]. In fact, you can set up a batch transcode to do an entire folder full of ISO's without intervention [i.e. you could do your entire collection if you wanted => obviously the transcoding would run for a LONG time, but it'd take about 5 minutes of "your" time vs. all those hours of "computer" time. I did this recently. ~300 DVD ISOs took less than a day to convert to MKVs and copy to a new folder on unRAID.
  22. Meaning... why do you want to use an 1882 in unRAID?
  23. You had the money for an 1882, but not the money to spend on a decent motherboard? What exactly is your goal?
  24. It could change on any reboot. unRAID keeps track of your disks by serial number, not the order in which they were initialized.
