  1. The Vostro is a low-end box. I bet Dell limits what you can put in that PCI-e slot to a video card.
  2. I remembered that at one time during the 5.0 testing, there was a manual update to Samba to attempt to fix the 4GB speed limitation issue. So, I thought, why couldnt I just update Samba manually now. I updated to samba-4.1.6-x86_64-1.txz per: http://www.slackware.com/security/viewer.php?l=slackware-security&y=2014&m=slackware-security.436606 The execute issue still exists. Did I do something wrong? Am I missing a dependency or something? Just confirming, did you also do the part above - set "acl allow execute always" to "yes"? All i did was upgrade the samba package. What else do I need to do to change "acl allow execute always" to "yes" ? Not a direct answer to your question, but here is part of the original discussion of this issue, with a workaround. I've never messed with the samba config, but I *think* you add settings to /boot/config/smb-extra.conf, which will then (on reboot) be added to /etc/samba/smb.conf. Thank you! I wasnt interested in v6 until beta 3, so I haven't read the older version threads and search failed me.

  5. I have 802.3ad bonding enabled and both my nic's always connect at 1000M after reboot. Same here.
  6. Thanks! I missed that. I will wait for beta4 before trying anything else since I do have a workaround.
  7. I upgraded my server from 5.0.4 to 6.0-beta3 and Ive run into an issue. It seems that "Execute" permissions have gotten broken. When I upgraded, I kept my "config" folder as I didnt want to setup shares and users again. I have tried running "newperms" against a couple of shares, I tried applying it to the entire server. Still no-go. Its not just my cache drive, Im just using it as an example. Any ideas what happened? Or at least how to fix it? Thanks! root@nas:~# ls -l /mnt/cache total 5 drwxrwxrwx 3 steven users 88 Mar 14 11:43 BluRay/ drwxrwxrwx 6 nobody users 584 Mar 8 16:03 SORT/ drwxrwxrwx 5 nobody users 152 Mar 14 12:17 TV/ -rw-rw-rw- 1 nobody users 99 Jan 15 12:40 _create_folders.bat drwxrwxrwx 6 nobody users 168 Mar 7 09:45 apps/ drwxrwxrwx 3 bt users 72 Mar 14 14:20 video2/ I have never set any implicit permissions on cache.
  8. I also had to ask for a return label. They wanted me to pick up the tab for the return. I should have tried to see if Amazon would have priced matched them. I checked their policy and they don't price match HD's. But it would be worth a try since Amazon bends over backwards for customers. Amazon doesn't officially price match anything except TVs. But like you said, they bend over backwards for customers. They end up offering a gift card or a promo code for the difference without actually price matching it.
  9. Oh, I have. They said they could place a new order for me, but they were backordered with no ETA. I said, "No, thanks!" I didnt need them anyway. I was just buying them because they were a good deal to replace my 2TB drives.

  11. I have sad news to report! My drives finally arrived after 11 days and they were both defective (spin...click...spin...click)!! I believe it was the way that Fry's shipped them, not a failure on Hitachi's part. Fry's basically threw them in a box that was too big with no padding, then they bounced around the country for 11 days before finally being delivered. They have been RMA'd back to Fry's.
  12. You dont have access to a single Windows box? I find that hard to believe.
  13. Windows Media Center does not play bluray's. You need to install extra apps like powerdvd or tmt. They don't integrate. You have to get your keyboard and mouse and close media center, open powerdvd etc. That ruins the movie watching experience. I do NOT want to see any desktop or mouse pointers. I do not want to know there is a pc running underneath, it should be transparent. All of my media is in MKV or MP4 format. EVERYTHING plays in WMC. All I ever need is my remote and I rarely touch a keyboard. When I do, I have these: http://www.ohgizmo.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/lenovo-n5902-htpc-keyboard.jpg MakeMKV can convert BluRays to uncompressed MKVs. I couldn't care less about menus and extras. When I hit 'play', I expect the movie to just play...and it does. As much as I like my Roku's, the interface sucks compared to Windows MCE or XBMC.
  14. I have an HTPC on every TV in my house, running Windows 7 Media Center. In my theater, I have an i5-based HTPC that I built and the rest are i3-based Intel NUCs (with Intel HD4000 video). I haven't had any issues with playing anything, until recently. All of my 1080p content plays perfectly, but 2160p content hiccups on the NUCs. I'm running MediaBrowser3 and I absolutely love it! I tried playing with XBMC, and it just seemed to need a LOT of tweaking to do what I wanted. I use these HP remote receivers with Harmony 900 remotes: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-HP-USB-Microsoft-MCE-Media-Center-IR-Remote-Control-RC6-Kit-Certified-/221270374012
  15. I didnt recall seeing Chrome Battery on Amazon the first time I needed one. Amazon is always the first place I go since I have Prime. So, I just continued to order from eBay. I just looked at a couple of batteries and they have the same prices on eBay and Amazon. Looks like I will be ordering from Amazon from now on. That being said, Ive replaced just about all my UPS batteries in the last year. And for anybody who has FiOS, the UB1270 battery is a perfect replacement for the ONT backup battery that Verizon sells for like $99!
  16. eBay. Ive been buying from "Chrome Battery." Ive bought at least 10 of them and they have all been great.
  17. I may pick up one of these. http://www.amazon.com/Silverstone-Tek-Aluminum-Cover-Heat-Pipe/dp/B00F9VRQDY
  18. I have an i3 version in my bedroom and that tiny fan kicks in a lot.
  19. I brought a new v6b3 test box online today and I too noticed this issue.
  20. Looks like they changed it. I placed two orders to be shipped to me this morning.
  21. They are designed for constant write. So, no.
  22. This! All of my video files are MKV or MP4 and none of my "in-house" devices, including two Roku's, transcode.
